Yep, turtles and penguins finish the race, by taking it one step at a time!

There is nothing really close to me (too rural) however I have decided to use the local high school track for Sat training. I feel really good. I really appreciate all your advice. Going to run home from work tomorrow night( have vest) This is a 5 mile run and then take the day off Friday. I am doing really well I just have to pace myself and not get too excited about it all. I seem to be going really slow though ( I think this is because of the increased mileage) Oh well, the turtle finishes the race also. emoticon

Good job! I don't think you've bitten off more than you can chew. Is there a running group near you that you can join? That's a great way to help stay motivated and get the benefit of experienced runners.

I have started to do speed drills . I like them as I feel like a kid being chased when I am doing them. I also like to do hills. Is this normal?? I hope I have not bitten off more than I can chew here but I am training. My last 5k was saturday 30 minutes!! I was very happy with my time. It was a very challenging course. Appreciate all advice as I have never trained with a running coach and probably need one. emoticon I am also paying more attention to my diet. I do not need to add to my frame as I don't want any knee or hip issues. My mileage increase should take care of that!

Hi, Catherine, and welcome!

Well, your body may be going through an adjustment period, as you've probably been trying to balance your caloric intake and burn rate. Not to worry, it happens. So, you need to add some variety into your training, perhaps some more speed training/intervals, and perhaps some strength training.

Start with a 5K to get your baseline. Then progress to the 10K. Be patient while you build your base of miles, strength and endurance.

I am new to this team but not to running. I have been running for about a year now. Sadly I have gained weight not lost it. thinking of training for a 10k, Starting today . I am hoping to be able to finish a 10k in and hour and twenty minutes. this will give me an idea of how long it will take me to walk /run a marathon. Want to do one.
