Yeah another April 11th Birthday!

Your body knows best listen to it. I would try to start adding miles, walk/run is a good strategy. But if your body starts to tell you no then DON'T push it. There will be marathons in the future but if you have a bad injury or a horrible experience coming back will be all the harder.

Let us know how you are doing!

You're simply enthusiastic. :)

Just listen to your body - and your doc - and allow yourself to build your endurance and mileage as safely and injury-free as you can. We're all going to hurt ourselves, sometime; hopefully not from overuse or overtraining. :)

My daughter did the Austin Half, I did the full marathon. If you know the Austin at all, it's a very hilly, ergo challenging, route. She did just fine, this being the 3rd time she has done it.

If you think you can walk that Big D Half Marathon, go for it. You've recently done a half marathon, so you know you can.

Then , you won't be beating yourself up so much, LOL!

Hi!
I talked with my doctor and the shin splint is gone. (it took a long time since I kept running when I should have been letting it heal...I am making every mistake rookie marathoners make. Sigh) My goal right now is to make it to the starting line. If I don't finish that will just have to be incentive to do better next time. :) How was the Austin half?

Hi, Lacey:

Have you consulted your doctor and coach about this?

Speaking as a coach, it sounds like you may need to rethink your plans. My daughter suffered a shin splint following her November marathon in San Antonio, and made the decision to only do the Austin half marathon on 2/14. She also had trouble doing the long miles during training, cutting back to whatever my half marathon team was doing.

If you're not going to be as prepared as you should be, and if you've not completely healed, no amount of luck will carry you over 26.2 miles, and you can be setting yourself up for more serious, long-term injury.

Where are you with your recovery from your injury?

Hi all,
I hope this is the right place for me. I signed up for the Big D marathon in Dallas on 4/11/10. (my birthday!) I have really lost sight of my training plan: started out great, developed a shin splint, fell off the wagon and have been quietly wussing out ever since. I'm a walk/runner but I haven't put in the kind of mileage that I should have. I ran/walked the Sioux City half in October and had a blast doing it! This is going to be fun too but part of me feels like I've failed and I haven't even started! I HAVE GOT to stop thinking like that! Wish me luck, I'm going to need it! :)
