Welcome back Wanda! You made perfect sense to me! I hope your recovery is going well. What kind of surgery did you have if you don't mind me asking?

I only joined a few teams because I can't keep up with too many, and there are times that I don't even post on the ones that I did join. I try not to let too many days go by without posting though.

Welcome back Begoode! I visited your SparkPage over the weekend and was going to send you a SparkGoodie but it looked like you hadn't been active on SparkPeople for a while so I didn't do it. I guess I should have! I haven't been missing but I also haven't been making any progress- in fact I too have backslid some over the past couple of years. I am trying to get back on track and am happy to have some company for the ride.

Hi everyone, been MIA for a while but back to SP. I've been playing around with my weight for a long time now and not getting anywhere. So back to keeping track and exercising. And what better place to do that then here amongst my friends at SP.

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Welcome to the team SkinnyPat62! I would love to hear more about some of the successful contests and incentives your chapter is using. Our chapter has had its ups and downs (kind of like this team), but right now some of us seem to be struggling a bit and I am looking for some ideas to re-energize us.

Hi,
I belong to TOPS in Aurora, Co. I joined in February 2012. I have now lost 30 lbs. but it is a struggle. The TOPS group I am in has very good members and I have made friends. Some of us keep in contact weekly and that support really helps. We have lots of contests and incentives to lose weight! emoticon

Welcome Barb! I love my TOPS group too, but we are not good about staying in touch between meetings, which I why I like SparkPeople. Yes, we will all experience falls at times, but as long as we get back up every time and get right back on track we WILL succeed.

emoticon I am in TOPS in California. I am getting started with spark again. I am looking forward to making friends in the group. I was at IRD this year if any of you went to San Diego. I am 46 about to celebrate my 27th anniversary. I have a daughter who is Jr in College studying to be dietitian (probably the only good thing to come from my weight problems) and a son who is a Jr in high school. I love my TOPS group but wish they were more active. I have 162 pounds to go so I like to break them by 10's. Please friend me I need any and all support on my journey. Luv Ya ---Barb

I like the accountability of weighing in at TOPS each week, but I like being able to come on here 24/7. You can always find an article on just about any topic you are looking for or tips to help get back on track if you are struggling. You can always post a message when you are looking for support and it usually doesn't take long before someone will see it and respond. Hopefully you will find a meeting close by- or maybe you could try to start a new chapter near you. In the meantime I hope SparkPeople and this team can help.

Thanks SOVTWALKER. I use to go to meetings in NJ but they're a little far from me here. So until things change this seems to be a pretty good place to help keep on track.

BURNINGTHYME101, welcome to the group! I would love to be able to spend winters in FL, but I'm not sure I would like it year round. Good luck selling your old home. Real estate isn't moving that great here in Vermont from what I've heard, so hopefully things are better in NJ

Welcome Joan! I am from Vermont, but I am familiar with the Millinocket area because we are part owners of a property in Mattawamkeag that we use as a camp and we usually go up there at least once a year. We usually make a trip to Baxter State Park when we are there. I hope we hear from you a lot and get to know you better.

Hello.
I have been a member of TOPS in Brewer for about 5 years. I really enjoy the weekly meetings and have met some really nice people. I first joined to take a woman with disabilities that I supported but continued when she moved. I have yo-yo'd for years..... and ready to JUST DO IT....NO EXCUSES. Hoping to meet some friends in this group. I grew up in Millinocket Maine so not too far from Leanne. Hope to hear from some of you and we can encourage and share good things with one another.

I grew up in Wytopitlock which is about 30 miles from Mattawamkeag thus my username. I am now about 120 mile south of there near Waterville. My son lives in Bangor. Not looking good for me to get to have grandkids so I just enjoy everyone elses. Baxter is beautiful I did climb Mt Katadin many years ago as a teen but no climbing now do well to climb stairs. I do exercise a lot though I swim year round at the Waterville Grand Hotel I have a membership and usually go 5 days a week at 5:30 in the morning before going to work.

Welcome Leanne! I will have to look at a map and see where you are in Maine. My husband is 1/4 owner of an older trailer on a small lot in Mattawamkeag. He and three other guys bought the property to use as a place to stay when they go hunting. We go up there sometimes in the summer and spend a few days. We usually spend some time in Baxter State Park when we do. We are not fit enough for serious hiking but we like to do some of the easy trails. Like you, I have a rather long commute to work (32.5 miles one way for me), but there are no decent paying jobs closer to where I live. I am married and have a grown son and a grown stepdaughter and 4 grandchildren.

Hi, I'm Thressa from Texas. I rejoined TOPS the last week in January because I needed the face to face meetings. While this group is not like my previous group, they are just as great. I fit right in. from the start. I just found this team and am thrilled to find TOPS on SP! I am 45 and have decided to become serious about my weight. I have a goal to loose 100 pounds and when I reach my goal, I will go from there.

Hello everyone. My name is Kathy and I live in the Gainesville, FL area (GO GATORS!). I rejoined TOPS yesterday, online, and look forward to attending a local Chapter meeting. I've located a Chapter that is LESS than one mile away from home - no excuses to miss meetings with it being that close!!! I was a TOPS member back in the late 90's. I served as Co-Leader in the Lake Butler, FL Chapter (awesome group!). I look forward to interacting with fellow TOPS members via SparkPeople and in person at the Chapter meetings.

I hear what you are saying. When I was working I didn't get to visit a lot of my chapters. I totally love the program this year. It is on Super Foods and the timing is so right because every program out there is endorsing Super Foods. Even Sesame Street. I gave the program twice and it was well received. In the summertime I will get to visit more chapters. I have a total of 13. I am trying to get my members to incorporate more of these super foods in their daily diet plan. They are nutritional and at the same time fillers. I was never a fruit eater but since the new WW program has placed no points on fruits and veggies they have suddenly become my number 1 priority.

I find the more my members and I keep a food diary the more successful we are. I look forward to journaling on sparkpeople and seeing the number of calories, etc I have consumed for the entire day. It shows me in black and white where I have gone wrong and what I can improve on. If I have a good day, I feel good about myself. You may want to do a meeting on journaling and planning.

Welcome to our group! I have been a member of TOPS for 15 years. I had some success at first and became a KOPS, then lost my status and have been up and down ever since. I gained back a lot of what I had lost before I started losing again, but for the last few years I have been up and down in the same 20 pound range. I have been either leader, co-leader or weight recorder for several years now- currently the leader. I was also an area captain for a few years but resigned because I changed jobs and no longer had the flexibilty to commit to chapter visits. Some of the chapters met at times that we not compatible with my work hours. I am working on trying to get my chapter (including myself) to use the exchange system and keep a food diary.

Hi Everyone,

I have been a TOPS member for nearly 12 years and during that time have been on a roller coaster, if you know what I mean. I have been chapter leader for 8 of those years and Area Captain for nearly 10 years. Going from one weight loss plan to another is not the way to reach goal. That's what I have been doing. Taking control and staying focussed and keeping a food diary are the keys to success. I returned to Sparkpeople and rejoined my friends on the message board. Along with my TOPS friends I know I am headed in the right direction to achieve my goal to becoming a healthier person.

Welcome! Congratulations on the new baby! You will get your KOPS status back. Logging your food is a great way to get started. I do much better when I do it, but I have not been doing it for a while.

Hello all!!!
I am a member of TOPS in Delton, Michigan. We meet on Tuesday evenings. I have been a member of this group a couple of times and became a KOPS in May of 2009. I had a baby 6 months ago and was not able to get back to my goal weight in 13 weeks, so I lost my KOPS status. I was within 2 pounds of my goal a couple of months ago, but started to gain weight. I decided to start on Spark People to log my food the day before yesterday to help get back to my goal weight.

I love SP and it is great to have people here 24/7, but I need the face-to-face accountability I get from my TOPS meeting every week. I also was once a KOPS, but only for about a year. I joined TOPS in March of 1996, lost 129.75 pounds to goal, becoming a KOPS at the end of 1997 and was named state queen at our SRD in 1998. I ended up gaining back all but about 25 pounds. I have lost some since then but I still need to lose 50 - 55 pounds and I don't seem to be making much progress.

Welcome to the team MaryAnn!

Hi everyone!

My name is MaryAnn and I am from Colorado.
I just returned to TOPS after a 5 year absence.

At one time, I lost 50 pounds to my goal and was a KOPS
for 2.5 yrs. Then I had health problems, gained it all back plus
a bunch more. I have lost 35 since joining SparkPeople, but I just don't
seem to be able to get below 215, so I rejoined TOPS, hoping
it will help nudge me along. I first joined TOPS in 1986/87?.
I love SP but I need a real push to get below 200 again.

I am just the opposite. I do well with exercise (although I tend to do the same things instead of a variety), but I am not as careful as I should be about what I eat. I don't like to think of it as a diet either. It is about portion control and making better choices more often, but there is no food that I consider totally off limits. We'll all keep on trying- as your motto says one day at a time.

Thanks Bev for the welcome like this Tops site
Enjoy Tops very much
As do not really like the word diet
Prefer to be aware of what I eat and portion control
My downfall is exercise
Do try to keep moving but do not have scheduled exercise time

Welcome to the team! Gee, I wish I was in Florida about now! Instead I am freezing up here in Vermont. The forecast says snow is coming tomorrow afternoon so it will be a tough commute home after work. Good luck with your weight loss efforts. Be sure to check out the other discussions also.

Good morning! I'm Gina from beautiful Palm Harbor, FL Chapter 502. Our chapter is small as well, only 12 members right now but most have been here for a long time and we love our chapter. Glad to be part of this team.

Welcome Bernice! We are a small chapter also, but not quite as small as yours. We have 15 or 16 members with about a dozen at most meetings. Everyone comes fairly regularly but it is almost impossible to get everyone there at the same time. We always seem to be missing a few, but it isn't always the same ones.

Welcome Angie and Barbara! It is great to see some new members on this team. Sometimes there is a lot of activity here and sometimes it gets quiet, but I hope you will join right in so we get to know you and you get to know us. The main discussion is the one that says "We are now a team"- a strange name that goes back to when you could have a message board on SparkPeople that was not part of a team. When those boards were being closed a team was set up and "we are now a team" was started.

Hi There! I am Angie from IL#1733 Ingleside. I am 39 years old. I have been in TOPS over 10 years now. Came close to KOPS, but then had my second child (they are 9 & 5) and still haven't gotten back even close to my goal. I think I am healthier than I have been in a while. I walk 6 days a week and do my strength training when time permits. I am so happy to be part of a TOPS team and look forward to meeting my fellow members! emoticon

I hope the scale cooperates for you this week. If it doesn't and you lose your status you can be reinstated again just as soon as you get back to goal. Just don't do like I did and get mad and decide to eat anything you want, because once you start that it is harder to get back on track. The key is not to let a slip become a slide. Good luck to you. I'll be waiting to hear how you do.

I know exactly what you are saying (writing). I hate it when my fate- or should I say weight- is out of my control. My weight recorder tried to get me to get a doctor's excuse too but I would only be up one week and then back in leeway the next so I wasn't too worried- especially when the cast came off- I didn't plan on having nerve issues in my foot- after all it was my ankle I broke! Last week marks two weeks in a row of being out of leeway, so this Thursday's weigh in is a do or die for me. I will be out of town for work that day and will really have to hussel to make it back in time for weigh in. If I don't weigh in then I will loose my KOPS for sure. I've been really working hard this week to get back in leeway. I hope everything goes as planned so I can be. I've worked too hard to lose KOPS status now.

Sherry, congratulations on maintaining your KOPS status. When I lost mine, the problem started because I wasn't able to walk and I didn't change my eating habits to compensate. I did have a medical excuse from my doctor, but when that expired I was still out of leeway, even though I had started walking again. My chapter encouraged me to ask my doctor to extend it, but I wouldn't do it, because I knew the reason I wasn't losing was not medical, but simply that I had let my eating get out of control. Knowing that and doing something about it were two different things, and before I regained some sort of control over my bad habits, I had gained back much of what I lost. When I finally become a KOPS again I hope I will be much smarter about it and will keep my status. Congrats to you for keeping yours!

Hi my name is Sherry and I am from TOPS ID0379, Montpelier. I have been a member for 1 year and 5 months. I have been a KOPS and the leader of our small group (we average 8 at our meetings) since December. It's been hard to stay a KOPS- in February I broke my ankle, but didn't realize it was broke- my (former) doctor said I had gout. Anyway I did really well at maintaining my weight while the cast was on (April-June)- I even lost a couple of pounds (I found crutches are great exercise), but after the cast came off I had swelling and pain issues in my foot and so I wasn't real active and couldn't rein in my eating habits to compensate for the lack of exercise. I've been out of leeway a couple of times but thank goodness the next week I dropped back into leeway, so I haven't lost my KOPS status. Now that I am walking (and starting to run alittle)the weight is FINALLY starting to come off again.

I am from TOPS IL 517 Peoria Heights. I've been a member for 5 or 6 years. I've been leader for 3. Before that I was assistant wt recorder, then wt recorder. When I joined I weigh around 170, more than I'd weighed in my whole life. I lost about 15 right away but then kept losing and gaining the same 10. I am thrilled to say that I had a .2 loss yesterday (4 wks in a row!) and am 4.6 lbs from goal.
Our chapter is on a roll, baby! We have 3 new KOPS in 2 years, 5 total and several people have lost a significant amount in 2010. We have an amazing group of women in our chapter and we all inspire each other. The reality that I will be a KOPS in a few weeks is slowly sinking in. Seeing our Chapter Queens on stage at ARD 2 years in a row made me realize it really was "my time". My advice to all is take stock and decide what is important - being healthy, fit, looking good, feeling good, living longer? Or eating that food that has let you down all those years?
If I can do it ANYONE can. Nothing tastes as good as being thin!

Tell us where your TOPS chapter meets, how long you have been a TOPS member, and anything else you want to share.

I am from TOPS VT 0085, Chester and I have been a member of TOPS since 1996. I was once Vermont State Queen but I am a backslider. I gained back most, but not all, of what I had lost to become queen. I am losing it again extremely slowly, with an occasional detour where I seem to get lost for a while, but I WILL get to goal again eventually.
