Welcome to the team, Kara, and congrats on hitting your goal! Great job, 125 pounds is a remarkable loss!

Sounds like you have a great plan for transitioning into maintenance, come join the March challenge if you want some extra motivation.

Hello. I hit my WL goal last week following a long plateau. I began my WL journey on Weight Watchers several years ago and have struggled with the last 10 lbs for the past couple of years. A bad breakup two weeks ago led to an unprecedented loss of appetite, but I was being very careful to be attentive to my nutrition. Typically I'm a stress/emotional eater, but I haven't even had an appetite for coffee, my favorite thing. Not having my morning and sometimes afternoon coffee with measured out cream and a little honey is probably the key. Regardless, I'll take it. As of last Friday, I have lost 125 lbs. If I go down another 2 lbs for breathing room, that would be great, but I'm happy where I am.

I've set about adding some calories in by switching to higher-calorie but healthy snacks. I had already transitioned to a healthy eater: no processed or artificial foods, but I was keeping my snacks in a lower calorie range. So I feel that there's really not much change to what I've been doing already for six years. I'll still track everything. I'll still plan meals. I'll still keep up with fitness.

Motivation will get you to the start line; discipline will get you to the finish.

Hi, Steven. I had a similar experience with going back to school a few years ago. I just wasn't able to put it first like I did as a kid.

Hey I am Steven,

I am a returning SP member. I quit SP in August 2012 to get ready for going back to college. I was not ready for college and had to drop out. Before I quit SP I had maintained my 'goal' weight for 8 months. When I came back on January 6th, I had about ten pounds that I wanted to disappear. It took two weeks and I was back to my goal weight (163 pounds), four days ago. I think most of it was just water weight and the rest came off quickly because of exercising almost every day and staying faithful to my nutrition. I look forward to maintaining my 'goal' weight. I hope for support and to be supportive here on SP and especially this team 40 Something Maintainers!

I have lived in south western PA most of my life. I will celebrate my 48th birthday this year on April 11th. I am very happily divorced. I am currently sparking a friend of mine drop his weight. Last year he went from 320 down to 230 pounds. He has two goals ~ to reach 180 this year and to become diabetes free. Also I have one older sister and one older brother. My sister has one son who earned his college degree in education last May.

emoticon

Have a healthy day!

Welcome Vtricia! Glad you found inspiration in Oakborn's story, and yes, your ticker shows 4 weeks maintaining (at this moment!) so Congratulations on that!

Come join our January challenge if you want some cheering on, or need support for anything.

I just read OAKBORN's story on the success stories feature and it's always nice to read one that had a similar range of numbers to mine, especially when they've been able to maintain it. Well, as you can see I got to maintenance almost a month ago. Hopefully this here ticker says four weeks. I should write a blog. I haven't been doing that as much lately, and that might be the start of a lapse in my energy. Or maybe I've just been really busy.

What a wonderful feeling it must be to have come so far in such a short time, after a health scare like that! Good for you for taking control of your habits, and creating good ones that will stick for the future, that's really the key to maintaining!

Hi!
I joined SparkPeople in January-one day after I was diagnosed with Type 2 deabetes. Since that day,. I've monitored my food intake, I've been drinking my water, added more exercise to my day, and learned a whole lot more about healthy living than I ever expected. SparkPeople has been that last puzzle piece that I needed to keep my life healthy and happy.
Now I have to learn how to maintain what I've gained.
I've lost 13 pounds, lowered my glucose levels, and now I'm working on my HBP and high cholesterol levels.
I really like the healthier me.

I like the idea of a "happy weight". I just recently upped my goal range by a couple of pounds because I was really struggling to get to my old range of 130-135, and was always just above it. I changed the range to center on 135 and now I'm right in there most of the time without too much trouble.

Good for you for finding what weight you can be happy with.

Hi, my name is Trish. I joined SP on 1/1/11. I reached my goal weight on 12/31/11.

As far as food goes, I do the SP plan along with my favorite recipes modified. I am all about moderation not deprivation.

For fitness I like to hike, bike, swim, walk/jog, and do Zumba.

Hi there everyone,
I am Rosalyn and I live in Oregon.
I still work at Cashiering at the best Health Food Store around.
So I stay on the straight and narrow path, pretty well.

I just had my 80th Birthday on August 13th
Had a wonderful time, had a Manicure and Pedicure and went to dinner with Family.
It was a great day, would like to have a Birthday once a month. Ha Ha.

I have been in Sparks for about 3 years.
Started out with a weight of 194# and I said this is darn well enough.
Had a lot of up and down Plateaus, they are Horrible things.
I FINALLY GOT TO MY GOAL OF 140# 3 MONTHS AGO.

Plus My DH is 91year old and has Alz and has had for about 7 years, I am keeping him at home as long as I can, it does get very hard, and stressfull though.
With out my job laughing and having fun, I would go absolutely crazy.

Hope I am Welcome hear with this Team.
I am a fun person.
Hope you will all visit my Spark Page and make me one of your Dear Friends, and I will do the same as I get to know you All.

Hugs and Love Rosalyn

Hello team,
My name is Arnold. My starting weight was 185 and my current weight is 135. I am very happy with this weight and have discovered that it is just as hard to maintain (most likely harder) than it was to lose the weight. I joined spark with my wife who is currently still in the process of losing weight to reach her goal. It is great to have others you can talk to that understand what you have went through and are still working on everyday.

Hi Everyone,
I'm Robin, live in Oklahoma and I love to exercise. I have lost all the weight I wanted to but now I just want to maintain. The reason I joined SparkPeople was because of the recipes that I have found are easy and low fat. I like to experiment and try new things so this is the place for that. I love to bike, run and swim. i lift weights and I occassionaly go to the beach and boogie board and body surf. I ran a marathon in 2006, 2010 I completed 2 sprint triathlons, rode 65 miles on a bike and this year I am looking at a 7 day tour riding to 4 states called Oklahoma Freewheel and trying to complete an Olympic triathlon 1 mile swim 24 mile bike and 6 mile run, we will see. Those are the goals I've set for this year.

Hello everyone. My name is Lynn. I am 47 and live on Maryland's Eastern Shore. I am married and a Dad to two wonderful girls. I joined SP 18 months ago. It took somewhat longer than I thought but I have shed 40 pounds. Along the way I developed a great new hobby (my family would say obsession) - running. I've done six 5K's, one 10K and am currently training for a 10 miler in October followed by a half-marathon in December. I have also made a lot of friends via SP. Looking forward to adding more through this team.

emoticon Hello everyone, feel free to call me Buff, I have been hanging out on this planet 49 years. My offseason weight is about 119 pounds but it is figure comp in this city so I nosedive to a lean 115. So I guess you could call me an onseason/offseason maintainer.

I am in the midst of prepping for a half marathon, which is a month before my figure competiton. Hmm it makes for some interesting training.

Okay enough of my babble, feel free to welcome be aboard.

I'm Shelly and yes, I Use Crayons! I'm Married, Two kids, One in college and one about to be in fourth grade, I live in Texas (close to Coach Nancy!) and I'm an injured runner.

I found Spark People while looking for recipes. LOVE LOVE the recipes! It wasn't until my Dr. told me everything was too high (cholesterol, sugars, scale) that I began *using* Spark People.

I started the C25K program and well the rest is history. I've lost 22 pounds and kept it off for 7 months. Being healthy and helping other become healthy is a passion. I tell everyone I know about Spark People and encouarge them to start their Spark Journey today! :D

HI everyone! I am 48 and just reached my goal of 127 I am 5'7" and want to stay between 127- to 130. I have been carrying an extra 10 to 15 for the last 20 years. We started a "biggest loser" competition at work and I decided to join. I ended up being the 2nd highest percentage loser! However, my team got 3rd. I have a 17 year old daughter who is a senior in high school. She is having a bit of trouble with my weight loss because she has always been so thin. She is into sports and has put on some pounds but is still a very healthy weight. The good thing is she joined SparkTeens and is trying to lose about 5 lbs. She has always been a very healthy eater, so she is doing well and is being sensible. It has been fun doing this together. I am nervous about the maintainance though. I really want to stay at this weight.

Welcome to the team Julie, and congratulations! You've done a fantastic job losing, and now you just have to tweak it a little to stay where you are.

I'm fairly self-motivated to stick to my plan, so I can't really help on that issue, but I know about snacking! I had a really bad night time snack habit for the longest time, and I must admit it still picks at my resolve now and again (mostly at TOM) but I feel like I finally got it under control, by tracking how many days I could go without snacking after dinner, and by making it my only goal for a month! Just being able to focus on that one thing I found was really helpful in keeping it at the front of my brain, and not allowing me to "forget" when I was in a moment of weakness. Now that it isn't my monthly goal, I must admit I cave now and again, but not to the extent I was, and my weight has settled right back into my comfort zone, where before it kept creeping out, then I'd have to work to bring it back down again...

Which is another thing you'll want to remember, that is, if you see yourself falling back into old, bad habits, don't give up! Get yourself back into healthy as soon as you notice you're creeping out of it!

And really, pat yourself on the back for such a wonderful accomplishment! You've done great! emoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticonemoticon

Hello fellow Sparkers! I'm almost out of the 40's so I hope no one minds if I join in this team. I'm almost to my goal, and am now seeking ways that I can maintain. I've lost so much weight that it may seem like I have this thing called diet in hand, but I still have cravings and although I have a loving husband who is very supportive, I still sneak snacks at times. I try to keep them healthy snacks but once in awhile they're not too healthy. I worry about what if something were to happen to dh that he won't be here to help me stay true to this new lifestyle. Would I revert to eating anything and everything again? I would hope not, but I'm not too sure. Does anyone else have these issues?
By the way, my dh is totally into health and fitness also, and has lost weight right along with me. Now he's working on building strength and bulking up, so he eats way more calories than I ever could hope to and stay at this weight. This make it harder on me, beleive me. He's ALWAYS eating! Healthy foods, yes, but he burns it all off before the day is done. He's got such a high motabolism! Makes me jealous. lol
Anyway, that's a little bit about me. I've gone through a lot of health issues in my life. I've come out on top, with a lot of help, not only from my dh but also from Sparkpeople and friends on SP. I'm very grateful for this community of people helping one another, and I hope that I can be a help to anyone who's in the place where I've been.
Have a great day!

Welcome, and congratulations! I love how you were worried about your family dealing with the healthy food, and that they embraced it! I think once you start eating that way, you feel so good, you wonder why you ever ate the junk! What a great lesson...

Welcome Titia!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss and your husbands as well!!! Love your attitude!!! Just keep doing what worked for you so far....many of us have re-gained some of our weight by letting go of the good habits be had while losing!!! For me I noticed I started to gain a few pounds when I stopped tracking my food...it's all about being aware of what we are doing!!!

Best of luck!!!

Hi
I've hit my goal weight in the last week or so!
My name is Titia (Dutch for anyone that is interested) I'm 43 with 4 wonderful young adult children or soon to be young adults.
I have struggled with my weight my whole life. For a while in my early 20's I was what I am now, then getting preg and having young kids added extra pounds. Going back to school added even more!
Last spring my best friend visited me from the east coast and we took lots of pictures. I looked at the pictures and was totally disgusted with myself and the fat blog I had become. So I stepped on the scale and was horrified to realize I was just a couple pounds shy of 200 pounds! I knew that I was going to hit 200 if I didn't do something RIGHT NOW! So I started walking, cut out all the processed foods in the house. My poor family had to "suffer" or I thought they were suffering because of MY new choices in food.
My husband was all for eating better although he's not into exercising the way I am. He has lost 38 pounds by eating healthier alone.
I have lost 68 pounds. I would like to lose a couple of "buffer" pounds, but I'm not overly concerned about it. After all it is winter, and I know that once summer comes around again, I'm going to be way more active!
The maintaining part scares me...actually quite a lot. I really don't want to have to go through this weight loss thing again.
So here I am, looking for support and willing to give support. :)

I made it!!!! emoticon

I finally accomplished my weight loss goal. emoticon

And with all my past experiences of yo-yo dieting, Sparkpeople, sparkfriends, articles, post, weight maintenance books, and all the wonderful blogs from those who are in maintenance. I feel that I am a lot more prepared for my next permanent journey. But I know I have a lot more to learn. Not only about maintaining my weight, also learning more about myself. Learning and dealing with inner issues will better help me with my maintenance. Look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome Cindy! I think many of us did that very thing at the beginning, and I for one have had to adjust my range a couple of times. (right now I'm a little above it, and trying to be "good" about my night snacking to get back into my current range...bit I digress)

Good luck in finding your "sweet spot" in maintenance. and congratulations on making your goal!

I'm new to the team. Hello! 47 years old. I
I am at my goal, actually beyond my goal. My highest weight was 140 last April. I know that doesn't sound overweight, but I am very small framed, and I felt unhealthy and tired all the time, so I set a goal of 118 (my High School weight) and vowed to eat better foods. I'm down to 109, and really need to be at 115. I'm rather OCD about tracking food, and need to loosen up on the food logging a little, but am afraid of falling back into old habits. That's my "maintenance" dilema, and I thought I might find some helpful advice from maintainers. Glad to be here

I am new to the group. I am here just 1 pound early, but it seems that this is where my body wants to stay. I have been this weight since the beginning of the month, despite tons of running and staying within my calories. I am happy at this weight and will probably change my Goal if I have dropped this last pound by next week.

hello Everyone, Since reaching Goal weight. I really have found exercise keeps me going.

I'm an advid walker just a couple of months ago I trained myself to run a 5k- Goal met.

I have been running every since.

Last month i walked / run 309 miles.

just this week has been 86 miles.

If anything I'm driven to do my Best !

Guess I'm doing something right cause i have been within 1-2 lbs of gaining weight.

right now would like to be around Sparkfriends who are Maintaining their weight also.

K, I joined this team a few weeks ago? Just getting a chance now to drop in and see what's up. I joined because yeah, I'm a "40 something maintainer!" emoticon

So... My story? I've yo-yo dieted and yo-yo weight gained and lost for years. Since May 2005 though, I've been pretty successful at staying within my healthy weight... Which is where I'm at now. I'd like to "lose a few" right now, though... Put on a few pounds while working with med changes, etc. It happens, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! LOL!

OMG, I would SO LOVE support on maintaining! I've found that exercise is REALLY what does it for me. I've gotta exercise a minimum of 5 days a week and I can pretty much eat what I want (within reason, of course). And I'm wheat and gluten free so I don't eat a lot of the "icky stuff" anyway...

You know what bugs me about people's comments about my weight? They say "oh you're fine.. just have that cookie!" Um, NO. That's WHY I'm able to maintain... Because I don't have "that cookie!" And I'm OK with that... Because I like how I feel... At the weight I'm at.

Personal? I'm a mom to a 12-year old FABULOUS boy! He plays 3 sports, so yeah... We're a bit busy. It's GREAT!!! Married 17 years... Um, I'm a graphic designer for work and I also coach a high school dance team.

What else? Just HAPPY to beeeee here hanging with like-minded peeps! You KNOW it!!!!

emoticon

Hi Maintainers. I'm 2 lbs away from my regoal meaning I went for 10 more lbs. I thought it would be a good idea to start my transformation of maintenace now. I've revamped by exercise from daily to a maintenance level and am still dealing with the guilts of not pounding the pavement daily. It is going pretty good though. Losing weight was hard but this maintenance could prove to be more challenging. I'm up to it and ready to WIN!

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

You are in the right place!!! I too was never to maintain for my than two years...mostly because staying fit and healthy stopped being a priority!!! I must have started to take my success for grated and forgot how hard it was to lose the weight!!!

This time I am staying AWARE of my behavior and having much greater SUCCESS!!!

Glad you are joining us on this tricky, although amazing journey!!!

Hi, My name is Nanette and I'm almost/sort of at my goal. I weighed 132.5 first thing this morning naked!! I officially weigh in on Monday evening at tops and I am usually about 4 lbs heavier then and when I set my 50 lb weight loss goal it was at my 6 pm weight so my ticker has about 6 lbs left on it. I think that's okay because in order to weigh 132 in the evening, I'll need to weigh about 128 in the morning. This will give me about a 5 lb safety zone, so I guess that's what I'm working on now.

I joined this team because although I've been able to loose weight several times before, I've never been able to keep it off for more than 2 years.

This is the hard part. SP has been a huge help in getting me to loose this time. It's actually been pretty easy compared to other times.

Hope I can be here to support you all and together we can maintain healthy our healthy weight!!emoticon

When you believe in yourself more than you believe in food, you will stop using food as if it were your only chance at not falling apart. When the shape of your body no longer matches the shape of your beliefs, the weight disappears. And yes, it really is that simple."

Hi,

My name is Trish, aka kristysmom. I have been with spark since august of 2008. I have about one lb to my goal weight, so I am looking forward to all the advice about maintaining.

I am a vegetarian, and love the gym and outdoors, and the warm weather. Living in New England, it still is missing this spring.

Welcome, Donna! Looking at your ticker, I can tell you've made tremendous progress on your weight loss. You'll have that last 4 lbs. off before you know it.

And congratulations on quitting smoking! Your dedication to improving your health is admirable. Clearly, you're a person who can do whatever you set your mind to.

Keep us posted on that last four pounds.
