You should be able to load podcasts onto an MP3 player? Not sure how, I know you can download a lot of them from the websites or a place like podcast1 (I think thats a podcast holding place?) Check around, I bet you can do it!

I have really loved taking long walks with my music too--I can't even find my mp3 player lately tho--I like listening to what is going on in the neighborhood tho too. I don't really miss the music--probably why I can't find it :)

I'm not very proud of my food and activity choices over the last few days/weeks--and my activity has been sputtering too. I wish I could get myself kicked in the butt!

Thanks for the kind thoughts! I can definitely use them. I hope I get myself out there for a nice long walk with the doggie today--it's very centering sometimes :)

Didn't want to drag myself out of bed this morning :) Mondays...got my coffee this morning from the kids in the alternate classroom at our school--they opened up a coffee place :) and they always have some kind of sweet treat they give away with a purchase---that I have avoided until now---today, the student had it already served up on a napkin for me, and it was an adorable melted snowman sugar cookie--I ate it with my lunch a few minutes ago. The good news is that I found a recipe for it on Spark, so I tracked it already, and I still have at least 2 walks left to take today to help burn it off emoticon

You can love them and still find them stressful! And good stress is still stress....at least you had a break from the chaos!

My souffle is in the oven. It smells pretty good, I must say, it was a lot of moving parts, but they all came together, so I hope it turns out well!

I'll bet you are onto something with the stress-willpower connection--and when my house is all calm, and I can peacefully get my basic housework done without back-talk from selfish teenagers--it really does make my day:) I love the monkeys--even the extra ones--but teenagers are--by nature--very self-absorbed, and that gets on my nerves after too much exposure to them without a break. Since my job is at their school as well--I have lots of hours every week to "love" them emoticon

I'm reading a book about willpower, and stress has a negative effect on willpower, so maybe your lower stress level with the quiet house is helping!

I've got my weekend cooking projects going, yesterday I made a stuffed acorn squash (with onion, pecans and cranberries, it was tasty!) and today I will attempt a spinach souffle!

Yesterday was better--binge-wise, and today is even better. I've been busy with puttering around the house. It's quiet now, because the kids are all gone from the house for a while--my own and the extras--I feel like Kitty Foreman sometimes with all these teenagers hanging out @ my house emoticon

Congratulations! I heard the Okinawans do the same thing and live longer than most.

I convinced my husband to get a bike and to go riding with me. Now, I just have to convince him to go fast enough to elevate his heart rate!

I had picked up one good thing when I was in a weight loss class and that was to eat until you are satisfied not eat until you are full.

I was proud of myself today. Took my daughter out to eat which is what we normally do every year. I was in complete control. I'm not on a diet, I am on portion control and I done well. :-)

We got in a 2 hour mountain bike ride too....at least that was something.

I started a new tracking challenge,so I began that today, I'll see how the scale looks tomorrow, and decide if I'm going to have to do more than 2 days a week of that. And I get back to the gym tomorrow too, my fitness class is Monday/Wednesday, and I love it! We hit legs on Monday, and my glutes are feeling it!

Just Five More Minutes

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.

"That's my son over there," she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.

"He's a fine looking boy" the man said. "That's my daughter on the bike in the white dress."

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. "What do you say we go, Melissa?"

Melissa pleaded, "Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes."

The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart's content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. '"Time to go now?"

Again Melissa pleaded, "Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes."

The man smiled and said, "OK."

"My, you certainly are a patient father," the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, "Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I'd give anything for just five more minutes with him. I've vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.

She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play."

Life is all about making priorities, what are your priorities?

Give someone you love 5 more minutes of your time today!

Always There

This is a great poem/prayer to remember. God is always there. :)

Hello God, I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.

Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall.

Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You, too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!

Three Men Cross a River

Usually we put an inspiring story or poem here, but today we thought we'd offer a little humor. Just all in fun of course :)

One day, three men were hiking and unexpectedly came upon a large raging, violent river. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea of how to do so. The first man prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength to cross this river." Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swim across the river in about two hours, after almost drowning a couple of times.

Seeing this, the second man prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength .. and the tools to cross this river." Poof! God gave him a rowboat and he was able to row across the river in about an hour, after almost capsizing the boat a couple of times.

The third man had seen how this worked out for the other two, so he also prayed to God saying, "Please God, give me the strength and the tools .. and the intelligence ... to cross this river." And Poof! God turned him into a woman. She looked at the map, hiked upstream a couple of hundred yards, then walked across the bridge.

Born Twice

This is a wonderful story about the love that mothers have for their children.

Before you were conceived I wanted you
Before you were born I loved you
Before you were here an hour I would die for you
This is the miracle of love.

-- Maureen Hawkins

Mother is always there when you need her. She helps, protects, listens, advises and nurtures physically and morally. She makes sure that her family is loved 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. At least that's how I remember my mother, for the few precious years I was blessed to have her. But no words can describe the sacrifice she made out of love for me, her young son.

I was 19 years old, and I was being taken to a concentration camp with a large group of other Jews. It was clear that we were destined to die. Suddenly my mother stepped in and traded places with me. And although it was more than 50 years ago, I will never forget her last words to me and her good-bye look.

"I have lived long enough. You have to survive because you are so young," she said.

Most kids are born only once. I was given birth twice - by the same mother.

God's Embroidery

When I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed me that she was embroidering. I told her that it looked like a mess from where I was. As from the underside I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand, I complained to her that it sure looked messy from where I sat.

She would smile at me, look down and gently say, "My son, you go about your playing for a while, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side."

I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my view. A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother's voice say, "Son, come and sit on my knee." This I did only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy. Then Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing."

Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father and said, "Father, what are You doing?" He has answered, "I am embroidering your life. " I say, "But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can't they all be bright?"

The Father seems to tell me, "'My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will see the plan from My side."

What is a Smile?

A smile costs nothing, but gives so much.

It enriches those who receive it, without making poorer those who give.

It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it.

A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship.

It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.

Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

In 2007 I reached my goal but I belonged to a TOPS chapter which was very stressful and after a year I put 15 pounds back on. I changed chapters, took it off and we had a big celebration. I have kept it off ever since. I am between 2 to 5 pounds below goal each week. I do eat special things sometimes but eat my veggies and fruit and drink my water. I lost w/o exercise and after I reached goal I started at the gym and felt good but hurt my knees so once again I am w/o exercise and I do not use Spark to track my food.

So is there something in particular you are looking for? It looks like you are comfortable in maintenance from you page, do you use Spark to track nutrition or exercise? Are you looking for more support, or WooHoos? Feel free to toot your own horn, we'll be happy to join in any celebrations, or on the other hand, let us know if you are struggling, and if we can help in any way.

It's a great accomplishment to get to goal, it should be celebrated, and then attended to,so as not to slip back into bad habits and start putting the pounds back on.

Wow! Congratulations! My parents have been married for over 50. Every year I call on their anniversary and, if Mom answers, say, "Congratulations! You haven't shot him yet!" They love each other very much, but he LOVES to aggravate her.

So, our dance troupe is doing a breast cancer fundraiser and somehow I am gong to be doing a solo. Guess I know how my spare time (what spare time?) will be spent for the next couple of weeks!

Oh Gals I am still sick.
I went to work yesterday because I felt ok except for very tired.
But as the day went on I felt my legs didin't want to hold me up.
I told them before I left for home last night that I wouldn't be in today, I was going to give myself the week end to recover. Hugs Rosalyn

Yep the biking is good exercise, I'm really happy the weather is holding out here so far! I'll really have to figure out what to do when it snows or rains here, especially since half my commute is on trails.

I've got to run today, Denia, hope you found some time for your run, I'm going to be hitting the treadmill at the gym, since I'm doing a tempo run.

TGIF!!!

Well, you know so many things seem like a good idea for other people....but most can't be bothered. I know when they've done hand washing studies in hospitals there is always an alarming number of staff that don't wash properly. I think it's about habit, and most just don't have that habit going. I bet if you offered those folks the gel more would use it, it's about putting the suggestion out there.

Larry's taking my car to San Diego next week, so I'll be biking it to work, or figuring out how to drive his 4 Runner, it's got a pod on top, so I'm not sure it would fit in the parking garage. More incentive to bike!

Yes Kay,
Yes at all the clinics they have those disinfecting hand things as well.
It is very seldom I see anyone using them though.
We have them at the doors of our Co-op as well and around the store.
But the same goes hardly anyone uses them.
But if they see me using them at my Register they always thank me for doing it.
So Why don't they think of it. Hugs Rosalyn

I work in a hospital! Signs everywhere to wash, and purel dispensers at almost every doorway...but I rarely get sick.

I finally rode my bike to work again yesterday, it felt good, think I'll try again today! I have to get the riding in while the weather is still good...

Take care!

I work in a health care building (research, not with patients) and sick people wander around all over the place. I try to be vigilant about hand washing and not touching my face.

I feel as if I could curl up and sleep for a week. It is shrimping season and my husband goes whenever he gets a chance. That means he comes in late, cranks up the boat motor to clean out the salt water, and cleans the shrimp - all right under our bedroom window. He can sleep until 9 or 10, but I have to get up at 5:15. It's early - maybe I should call and wake him.

Hi Everyone I am stuck home from work today.
I started to feel awfull yesterday about 8:00pm and was up 1/2 the night going to the toilet etc.
It is something going around, things start going around after school starts.
And I work with the dirtiest germiest thing in the world, MONEY.
I disinfect my Hands and Register all the time, but sometimes it will get you anyway from people breathing at you.
Hope everyone else is staying well and away from all the germs, Rosalyn

Ouch, Denia, not good! I've got a short run today, my old plan was 5 mile easy run, the abbreviated plan is 3 miles, so I'm gong to see how I feel. I'm not hitting the road until after work, since my schedule is tight today (early meeting...) and I want to ride my bike in, I have gotten out of that habit, and the weather is too nice right now not to ride!

Hear coyotes howling early this morning, they really sound close, but I've never seen them here.

Happy Tuesday!

I have one of my Sons and Family living in the other 1/2 of our Duplex next door.
So if they are home they can help.
But I hate to bother other people even if they are my Kids.

Wow I woke up to Rain today.
Even though they say it is going to be about 80 today
I will have to see it to believe it.
I didn't put on a Skorts like I had planned, I grabbed Jeans.

I am listening to Johnny Maddox playing Honky Tonk Piano Music today while I am on the computer. My favourite music.
Got to go going out shopping and Lunch with my Grandson today.

Shapely - can someone help? If cost of a home health care person is an issue, maybe a volunteer from a church? Especially if you know a college student that wants to go to med school - they need volunteering on their application.

Yes, KAYOTIC - I am recuperating from a fall in Feb. During a run, I stepped on a green pole the workers left on the grass and was pitched forward into the road on my knee. Ended up with a really bad bone bruise and everything pulled out of whack. If I had known then what I know now, I may have looked into a lawsuit. The extra doctor visits were definitely NOT in the budget!

Cooler here - especially for me since I like very warm. But, the dogs are loving it!

Well here I am again and the weather sounds like it will be a little better today and most of the week. 76 deg today and a little better than that the rest of the week.

I Hate Sundays.
This is the day I have a big fight with DH to get him into the shower.
With Altzheimers they would just as soon be dirty as have to take a shower .
Well think of me in about an hour shoving him in the shower.

Hope all the rest of you have a great day though.

We're on the cloudy side this morning, I'm waiting for it to lighten up a bit so I can try out a run again this morning...I've been sitting on the bench the past couple of weeks with a sore ankle, but it felt OK yesterday and I think I'll give it a go. If it hurts going out I'll come back in and hit the gym machines instead....Still a bit frustrating that my race is coming up in about a month now and my training is sidelined....

Take care with the flooding Denia, hope it doesn't get worse for you!

Raining in Charleston SC area and the streets are flooding. Doesn't take much for that to happen. I will have to wash my undercarriage since the entrance to our parking lot was flooded by salt water. High tide is not until nearly 11 am so the situation will only get worse for drive time!

Our temps tonight are dropping into the upper 50's! It cooled a great bit between when I left work and about an hour or so after I got home.

I managed to do yoga tonight and then adjusted my menu for dinner to keep me within range. Happy about that.

Annoyed to no end though by all the banging coming from my neighbors. Sounds like their dropping metal balls about every 5 minutes.

Well, I've been hard at work, we're having our second audit in the past two weeks this week, ends today.....lots of work for me!

And we've been having thunderstorms too, it rained 3 days in a row....unusual for this high desert.

I got to the gym last night for my appt with my new trainer, warmed up on the treadmill, stretched out, only to find out the appt is for tonight! Oh well, guess I should have double checked that appt card....so I went home and did some yoga instead (my ankle/ foot is still causing me a a bit of trouble) I'll try again tonight!

My new Amazon music was a download from Yo Yo Ma, not so much dancing music, but it's nice to listen to at work when I need to calm it down...

Been watching Tunisian water jug dances. Think I might do a choreography using drum music.

Weather has been lovely here - maybe I should take a few days off!

a Cooking Light makover of macaroni and cheese, not sure your relative would go for it, but maybe if you didn't tell them what was in it?

in any case they might give you some hints on how to lighten up your own recipe.

I might have to try the butternut squash one myself, I love that stuff!

We've had thunderstorms the past 2 days, and looks like the prediction is for more today and tomorrow....no biking for me, I guess that's fine since my foot/ankle is still hurting. It just keeps moving around, it was my ankle 2 weeks ago, but as of Monday it's now the ball of my foot! And I'm meeting my new trainer today for our first workout, I wish I wasn't so limited in what I can do....but I'm sure he'll work with me on that.

Hope Wednesday is treating you all right!

Too funny about the hummus, but I really like it. However, being from Louisiana I didn't learn about hummus until I'd been gone for several years. Love it with raw carrots. Pita chips would be good too.

Look forward to hearing how your recipe testing goes.

Hi Gals Hope everyone is well today and surviving.
Looks like another day like yesterday where it was foggy and cludy until about 4:00 pm before it reached a decent temp 79.

Try Belly Dancing Classes you can take it easy and don't do anything that bothers you.
Classes are soo much fun.
Don't have much to say today, geez, put up the flag, Hugs Rosalyn

Need to 'test drive' healthy choices to make sure my family back home will eat them. I took hummus and whole wheat pita chips to a baby shower last year. No one would eat it until I said it was bean dip instead of hummus. So, I need to find lighter versions of Southern Thanksgiving cooking.

We will probably have wild turkey and venison since my father and brother hunt. Mom likes fry the venison cube steak and serve with gravy. A lighter gravy would be nice as well as a lighter mac and cheese. And, of course, lighter versions of desserts!

I still wish I had taken a belly dancing class when I had the chance. I tried by DVD but that just didn't work. I also frequently have bursitis in my hips, so they tend to be stiffer than the average person, which I think affects my ability to do some of it, though if I ever get the chance, I'll probably still give it a go.

Recipe wise. I'm a fairly picky eater, but am learning to make my recipes based on some of my favorite restaurant ones. I've learned to do quesadillas, guacamole, have discovered some great raviolis from Whole Foods (which to me are now better than going out) and am still working on others. I've got some gallbladder problems and that's making it hard as now I really need to watch the fat or I'm just miserable. Getting there, though.

Hi I forgot to mention in my other Post that I used to Teach Dancing.
And one of them was Belly Dancing, had to quit because of my feet.
I sure miss it and the students.
So when you are Dancing think of me a little. Hugs Rosalyn

HI GALS!!!!!!!!
I was so over joyed when I got on the computer this morning, and saw all these Posts.
Thank you Gals for responding to my plea.

Well the sky is terrible looking today, cloudy and dreary.
Supposed to be 85 they say, but the way it feels right now at 10:30 I will have to see it to believe it. There Goofs out number there Sucsesses, Giggle.

The best of a Holiday meal. I think is a nice big Organic Turkey.
Even if they do cost more, they are well worth it.
Not got a bunch of garbage pumped into them, like the others.
The store where I Cashier sure have me trained, right????

Thanks again for all your nice responses. Hugs Rosalyn

Denia, are you looking for holiday recipes, or just in general?

I've taken to tweaking Spark recipes if I have an ingredient I want to use, I search on that and see what strikes my fancy. I also did a personal challenge a while back to make a "Cooking Light" recipe once a week (I had years worth of old magazines, so part of the challenge was decluttering, and pulling out the recipes I wanted to try from the magazines, the second part of the challenge was trying the recipes!)

Right now I'm roasting green chilies for a stew I'm making tonight, I have a boneless pork loin, and will stew that up with the roasted chilies and onion. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

Definitely quiet lately - and not just this team.

I am a 50-year-old belly dancing grandmother. I lost 45 pounds and have kept it off for nearly 2 years. It is still hard since my favorite foods are chicken wings and fries!

With the holiday season approaching (yes, it is only September, but it will be here before you know it!), I have a feeling we will all need a bit more support! Plan on finding and testing healthy recipes for the end of the year. Any suggestions?

Good trick with the shower.

I'm in MD and we have nothing but rain for the past week and I'm ready for it to go. Looks like we're a bit cooler than OR - we'll be in the 80's next and dropping to the 60's for the high around Thursday according to the weather. My thermostat said it was 90 earlier, but it feels really good outside. I'm not sure if I want an early fall or not, but I am looking forward to a few days without rain.

You're right about this being a quiet team....

Good luck with your DH, sounds tricky, but you seem to handle your situation well, 8 years with Alzhiemer's you must be a saint!

We are looking at thunderstorms down this way, it's clouding up, but still warm enough. There has been more of a chill in the air, so winter is on it's way!

Hello Gal there isn't much talking between you all on this team.
Lets see if I can get some going.
We sure can't be much of friends if we don't talk together more often.
And we will never get to know each other enough to be friends.

Well the weather here in Oregon is still HOT, around 94 deg.
Going to cool down to about Low 70s starting Wednesday.
That to me is getting a bit cold especially after we are used to being hot in 90s.
I am going to freeze in the 70s, Brrrrrrr!!!!!!! Giggle Giggle.

Well today was shower time for DH that is is a big fight to get into the shower any more.
He has Altzheimers and has had for about 8 years.
The trick I have for getting him in the shower is that he will be sleeping by himself if he doesn't and for now that is working.
When that quits working I am stuck for another good trick. Ha Ha !!!!!!!
Any good tricky ideas for me?????

Well come on Gal Friends, I would really like to get you answering me. Please.
I don't like writting to myself, so please everyone write to this friend called Rosalyn
