Many thanks for your support and encouragement. I probably have not chosen the right week to start as I celebrated my birthday. Nevertheless, in the main, I have manged to stick with the diet and Sunday is my first weigh in!
I joined sparkpeople not hoping for a heck of a lot -- namely to get healthy and to not feel like I was dying following a softball game. What I ended up with was significant weight loss (though nothing like some of the truly impressive numbers you'll see everywhere on this site!), and a better knowledge of myself and my own habits.
This site can help you balance exercise and food, and if you work for it, give you fantastic results. Many of the people here are great, too, so you'll find support when you need it and a seriously devoted group of cheerleaders.

Hi, like many others I have tried various diets some successfully some not but always the weight returns, plus some. I really want to get down to my ideal weight AND stay they. With the support of this site and the shared experiences, hopefully this will be achievable.
