Hi Karen! Your place sounds awesome! What a fantastic Idea! I bet you meet a lot of interesting people and horses that way?! I'm curious...do you have like a serious busy time and then not.

I work in the marine industry...so you know, we have lulls...this year we stayed pretty busy, which was nice. The commissioning calls are already coming in and we have commissioning scheduled for the 28th of this month. That's rare.

Our team here isn't very active....sadly...but I try. The weather has been pretty wacky, you being so close, you probably know what I'm talking about. Last week, we had blanketing issues (I have TB's and I do all I can to keep them warm to keep the weight on them in the winter). This week has been a little easier. It's just been cold. No warm. We were supposed to wake up to crappy weather...but we didn't. Thank God. It's dry out there.

Spring is coming!!!! Soon, I hope.

My name is Karen. I am new to this team, but it sounds like fun. We own a small horse hotel in New Jersey off of Interstate 80. It is called, But4Chance Horse Hotel.

When people travel with their horses, they can stay at "people" hotels by the rest stop. Their horses stay with us.

Awesome that you didn't gain during the holidays, Lori! Me too! But I wanted to lose...haha. Oh well...there will be plenty of time for that....

I just came back from the farm...I wanted to put Frank's light blanket on him....and wash his heavy blanket. it's not going to be too cold tonight...but....Frank loses weight so easily and keeping him warm helps keep the weight on...

Lori, I have the exercise part down just fine but the eating...part...OMG...I had lost the weight before...but...well...gained a good portion of it back over 10 years. I love to work out...and I work hard.

Tim's mom, my MIL, used to raise Quarter Horses. She has many a story about that. I didn't really have a pleasure horse until I turned 28...I wasn't allowed. But I did have a paint at one time when I was younger. Gosh, he was awesome! But, long story short...I didn't have him long. Racing was more important in my family.

Poppy has a bone spur...it ended his racing career. It doesn't seem to bother him on the trail. He's fantastic. Love him.

Looking forward to getting to know you, Lori!

Hi there Celeste!
I haven't been active much on SP lately. I was 99% faithful with my tracking for 3 years straight. Made some good progress & have more to lose; but due to health, have been at a self-induced maintaining level instead. The good news is that after tracking faithfully for that long; I have went through about 5 months, the holidays & everything... without gaining. Eating right & exercise is now second nature to me.
I live in SD on a farm with my hubby & have 3 horses.
The oldest, a registered quarter horse gelding ; is 29 this year and has been with us since he was 17. Such a well behaved & well trained horse. He can be a "babysitter" for the young & inexperienced; but he is not a plug & take him out herding cattle & he is on a mission. He has been "semi-retired" for the past 3 years & we still trail ride with him.
Then I have a 20 year old registered quarter horse mare that I adopted 3 years ago to give a good home. She has a bone spur in one front foot & requires special shoes to relieve the pressure. She is a sweetheart & is only used for light riding and occasional trail riding. We are happy to have given her the good home she needed.
My 3rd horse is my main ride. He is a solid Paint breeding stock that was gelded & I bought him as a 2 year old with 60 days of training. He is 18 now. He and I have been through alot in 16 years & have ridden many many trails in SD & MN & NE. He is so strong & an easy keeper; so it is very hard to keep slim & trim unless I can ride him most days out of the week & even then he never gets thin. He looks like a foundation QH. He is not much for cattle work because he was never trained that way & none in his breeding; but he will do what I ask of him if I need to use him for that.
Thanks for starting a new thread.
I will try not to be so absent.
Lori

Hi, I'm Celeste! I live in Annapolis Maryland. My husband and I have 2 horses, both OTTB. My first true love is Frank, he's 20...well, 21 if we celebrate his jockey club birthday. He came into my life when he was 8. Well, he'd been in my life since he was 2....but that's a long story. I'll share it with you some time. Then my husband and I own a 6 year old.gelding named Poppy. He retired this past summer. He's been an amazing horse. Christmas was his first time at the park under saddle, and I had a blast. Then last Saturday, Tim and I went out to the park and Poppy was so good for him.

We're just pleasure trail riders. I have a background in racing, thanks to my family...but I never cared for it. My husband grew up in Colorado and got into rodeo stuff. When his mom got older, they switched to miniatures...and my MIL still has 7 horses. She used to bread and show. Now, she just loves them....and she's going to be 80 this year. I think they help her keep those bones limber.

So, it was no surprise when I met my husband at a farm I was boarding on...and he was working parttime on...and got married in the barn a couple years later.

We also have 2 dogs....Pekingese. I love little ones....we live in a condo. One day we'll have a house...but I just love the little ones.

Anyway, I decided to lead this group because we horse people love to talk about our horses and not everyone understands that love....and not everyone appreciates the smell of horse manure as much as we do...lol.

So, come on...lets talk about life, our weight struggles and our horses and get this show on the road.

Looking forward to meeting you all!
