Perfectly following any diet, exercise program or other life change is not only daunting, it's likely impossible if you're planning to do it for any length of time but that shouldn't be daunting and depressing. The fact is, that like most things in lie, getting healthy doesn't require perfection, just consistent, concerted effort. Whether your blood pressure problems have to do with stress, lack of exercise, overweight, all of the above or something completely different, getting healthier means making lifestyle changes, not just for today, but for the rest of your life. Don't forget, however, that this is about your life. Many of the best things in life happen when you're not being "perfect". Veering off the straight and narrow on occasion is not only inevitable, it's what makes life worth living, and in my mind, knowing that there will be those times when you won't be 100% on track will allow you to forgive yourself without adding guilt and the stress it brings with it. Besides, sometimes those detours from the "perfect" are what makes life worth living. The trick is keep those little detours under control and never to allow them to completely derail your "get healthy" journey. One chocolate, one indulgent meal, even a totally decadent vacation with buffet tables loaded with creamy sauces, deep fried delicacies and sugary deserts can't do irrecoverable harm unless you choose to let it. Just give it your best shot and remember, in the immortal words of Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day."
