I was very worried about diabetes but my primary said my numbers were really good. It isn't the kidneys, liver or thyroid either. I'm having a holster test on the 9th and my doctor cut the medication in half. I'm just trying to be patient and not stress myself out while we analyze the problem further.

Lara,

I'm glad to see that you're seeing your primary care physician, tomorrow. I feel you should educate yourself, with the help of your physician. He/She should be able to clue you in on some great material.

HBP is a tricky thing. I've found with me that one day I'm up and the next I'm down. I haven't found that happy medium, yet! I'll be seeing my primary care 03 Dec, and I'll talk to her about it, maybe she knows something that I don't. The worst that can happen is nothing. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know, and I'll be there!

I had to go to the doctor because I wasn't feeling right. I wasn't stressed in the least though. I was hanging out with a friend and getting Thanksgiving fixings. No stress at all and wasn't even thinking about anything in particular. At first I felt like I was having problems swallowing, accelerated heartbeat and then my head started swimming. I'm in total denial now trying to think of something it could have been other than high blood pressure. I really don't want to take medication. I'm not trying to be a baby about it, but I just would rather fix the issue with life style changes. The problem is that I already have been doing a lot to make sure I don't start down the high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney failure route, so I don't know if life style changes are enough. I'm seeing my primary first thing in the morning.

It's good you are back. Stress definitely does elevate the blood pressure. We cannot change our past lineage but we can make sure that we know a lot about the condition .
We should do our best to educate ourselves for our own benefit,

Walking helps, it exercises the heart and lungs
Reducing or even giving up salt is another big help.
My substitution is lemon juice.
If you are a person who snores ask your Dr about a sleep study test.
The most important part for me and My DH is listening to our Dr.
Be certain if you have any issues or questions make a note of them. Reread the notes before you go to the Dr and eliminate or add to it so you are prepared.

You must turn DIS-tress into DE-stress and learn to relax.
Find your fun and relaxation. Pat in Maine.

When I joined SP, I completed the questionnaire and because my family members had high blood pressure, I was put in this group. I "unjoined." I am joining today because I have now been placed on Toprol after having a long visit at urgent care on Sunday. I was at 120/80 just a few weeks ago and just recently got into the healthy BMI range (thanks SP). Having said that, my blood pressure was high on Sunday, my heartrate was 120+ and the heart enzyme and EKG did not come back normal. Darn you genetics! My plan is to stay aware of my body but not be obsessed about this. I'm seeing my regular doctor tomorrow to get cleared to get back to my regular exercising. Any tips for how to stay calm and not get psyched would be appreciated. I've been with people after they had a heart attack and were supposed to be walking but were too scared. I wish I would have been more empathetic, but I could not understand how powerful the brain is in convincing the body that you are going to pass out. I love mantras so if you have one for convincing yourself that you are ok and to keep moving please share and know that it will be appreciated.
