Welcome. Sorry you ended up with high blood pressure, but it sounds like you've made a good start toward getting it under control. The idea is not so much giving things up as substituting things: fruit for sweets, veggies for fries, chicken and fish for red meat. Mrs. Dash is a good substitute for salt. I like lemonade or green tea instead of sodas, but sometimes I'll have a ginger ale or orange crush. It takes a while to get use to it, but considering it can get you off the medicine and save your life, it's worth it.

Hello & Welcome to the team. I recently had a mini stroke with high blood pressure & low oxygen levels. Doctors told me fruits, veggies, exercise & water. Course they upped the blood pressure medicine and started me on an aspirin a day along with all regular inhailers & oxygen. Spark has an article on the Dash Diet that has some great information too. So I am new to the high blood pressure world. I recently went to the doctor with a head ache and had a very bad bp reading. I got put on a new medication that includes a diuretic. I don't like the idea of meds but I apparently need them. I also don't like going to the bathroom so often. And my diet restrictions are going to drive me crazy. I was well on my way to crazy before I couldn't have salt, soda, grease and fast food. I honestly don't know much about what I should do for the diet. I have been tracking my food. And I have not added any salt to any food and I have not had any soda or fast food for almost a week now. Just gotta stay strong and keep it up.
