Hello Everyone. I'm ChubbyFencer. This is my 6th week on Sparkpeople. I just visited my doctor and my blood pressure did not read well at all. The numbers suggested I hate Stage 1 Hypertension.
At the time of the visit, I hadn't slept in two days, was hyper from all the coffee I was drinking, was stressed out for a family member in a crisis situation.
My doctor and I considered putting me on blood pressure medication but decided against it for the immediate future because my numbers might have read higher based on the circumstances I mentioned above. We talked extensively about the changes I've made since I started Sparkpeople: I've lost 15 lbs and am committed to losing much more. I'm diligent about making sure I get cardio exercise 5+ times a week. I've started sleeping better (I have major insomnia issues) and reducing my stress levels. These factored into his decision to have me continue what I've been doing and see where my numbers are again in 2 months.
In the mean time, he wants me to limit my caffeine and sodium (Nooooooooo! So hard!) and to be diligent with following the DASH diet eating plan (which I learned about today) to give me the best chance for success the next time he takes my blood pressure.
So here I am...on Sparkpeople, in a team for those with high blood pressure, and looking for support. I hope to get healthy with all of you!
