I've just joined Spark People as I really need to lose weight. High blood pressure is a concern for me - my father had it and, as I've had a lot of stress in the last few months, mine has been creeping up, too.
Really hoping I can get both my weight and blood pressure down and start to feel fit and healthy soon.

Hi, I'm new too since mid April. I have found this site really helps me. I also decided to give up processed foods and now am losing weight again. I'm basically the same age and situation as you too. I have to take bystolic 10mg but it only really started working for me once I lost my first 10 pounds. Its definitely been a somewhat disheartening struggle - but I just keep trying for my kids and grandkids. I wish you all the best.
Welcome aboard! Start using the food tracker to see how much you really eat. Track your Sodium & Potassium levels- it will help you understand which foods are high in Sodium and elevate your BP. When I was 277lbs and was put on medication my BP rocketed to 220/180! I wonder how I didn't get a stroke! A year later, 45lbs lighter, much better educated in food choices, aware of nutrition on a whole new level, exercising and ...my average BP is 120/70. Btw, I have already reduced my medication from 15 to 10mg a day and my doctor said if I keep losing I will most probably get rid of it completely! You can do it! Just DON'T GIVE UP!!! You will definitely find what works for you!

Hi, I'm new to Spark People & need help with my HPB. I'm 55, Mom of 4, Grandma of 6 and want to be around a long time to see them all grow. I have been trying since January to eat better, exercise, lose weight & get my blood pressure down. Not having much success yet. It is such a struggle as I am in Perimenopause too! I am hoping this site can help. Any advice & encouragement would be great. I'll try to help all of you too!
