Wecome, RAINBOWBRITE152 and PONDLADY ! Spark People has plenty of tools, information and community support to help you achieve your goals. Take one day at a time, and make small changes that you can live with; set reasonable goals and reward yourself for your achievements.

PONDLADY, it sounds like you may have "white coat hypertension" -- kind of a stress response when you go to the doctor's office.Request that the nurse give you a few minutes before taking your BP once you're called back to the room or wherever they take your vital signs, then just sit and try some visualization of a peaceful moment, lying on a beach, walking through the woods in the fall, holding your grandbaby, or whatever works for you... focus on breathing slowly and evenly. I can't guarantee that will work for you, but it works for me... and if your machine seems accurate when you check it at the office, normally the doctor will not hold the increase in pressure when you're there against you!

Hi everyone! I joined this group awhile back and forgot all about it...SHAME ON ME! Last month I joined our hospital's fitness center and have befriended a lady who is a success story and she recommended Sparkpeople. So here I am and found this group that I had joined. My blood pressure battles are just mind boggling. I use my little machine at home, and my bp is almost always within a healthy range. I go to the drs office and POW bp is SO HIGH. I have taken my little machine with me and it is always pretty close to what the nurse is taking so I know the thing works. SOOOOO, what can I do to get better readings when I go to the dr????
Oh, and I think I'm going to enjoy this group!

my sister lost 105 lbs age 63 walking 15000 steps a day

i lost 44 pounds at age 61 by giving up grain and sugar products.

neither one of us has had a relapse in over a year
