It's strictly volunteer, a spare time thing. During the weekdays, I am indeed trapped, not in a cubicle, but in a v. tiny office, all day long. emoticon

That sounds fantastic! So much better than being trapped in a cubicle all day long.

It's a program, run by the state Parks & Wildlife Dept and Extension Service, that trains volunteers to become naturalist experts about their regional environment- water, soil, wildlife, plants, etc. and then share that knowledge by volunteering in the community, doing presentations at schools, or helping local landowners restore their property, giving tours at natural sites, conduct bird counts, reseed prairies, build trails, etc. We have to do a certain number of volunteer hours and continuing training to keep our certification. Different regional naturalists would have different bodies of knowledge, since the regional environments vary. The program started in Texas but now a number of other states are doing it as well.

Hey Becky! I have to ask, what's a Master Naturalist?

So I guess I'm in the right place?

Hello ladies.

I just got here today and was glad to see a healthy LGBTQ contingent.

I'm Becky, I live in Wimberley, TX. I'm single. My partner of 14 years and I split four years ago, so I still sort of think of myself as 'divorced.' I have a bunch of pets-2 dogs, 2 cats, and a parrot. I'm also a Master Naturalist, love hanging out online, am active in a couple of blogs, and am attempting to plan a "real" garden for the first time solo.

I think my biggest challenges on this weight loss journey, aside from sticking to it, will be starting and keeping up a regular exercise program, portion controls, making meal plans and varying my diet. I already eat healthy food but I don't vary much.

Look forward to meeting folks.
