New to this team - not new to freezer meals - looking forward to some recipe sharing here :)
Love this way of cooking - saves my bacon and my moola because if I don't do this in advance - I don't eat well. My name is Sharyl and I am thrilled to be here!

Hi, new to this team. I thought I used my freezer but we have a home on 14 acres and I want to plant more and freeze as much as I can. I would also like to learn how to can. Of course all of these wishes are from inside my home on a snowy day.

Due to some renovations last year we had to clear all of our veggie boxes etc. This growing season I will be starting from scratch. To put as large as veggie patch etc as I and the family would like, I have a feeling I will be out side working a great deal. LOL

No foods with high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients it is too processed, I will not eat or buy the item.

Hello, I am from Tennessee and our gardening season is just beginning. It is a lot of work. We raise raspberries, blackberries, blueberries , strawberries, apples, and cherries (if the birds don't get them first). We also have a rather large garden. We currently have 3 freezers that we fill each year. We also dehydrate some foods and can when it it necessary. I am interested in learning to stock the freezer with ready or almost ready to eat meals that are quick and healthy.

Hi, I am Heather from Panama City, FL. I can't wait to start trying out all of the recipes that I have found on this team's boards. Our new freezer gets delivered this Friday and I am going to spend all of Saturday cooking for the month thanks to a lot of these recipes :-)

Hi! This looks like my kind of group. I've been making my own frozen dinners and buying in bulk and freezing for years. I have a huge refrigerator freezer, as well as a chest type freezer in my apartment. I would be lost without them. I like to make big batches of things in the crock pot and freeze them for later. A couple days of cooking makes a bunch of mix and match meals. Looking forward to finding more tips and tricks and sharing some, too.

My name is Melissa (from Alaska). I've just rejoined the work force but only part-time. Since my children have left home, I've never learned how to cook for just the 2 of us so freezer cooking it is! I really want to be able to continue with my good home cooking habits and set aside some for the freezer thus reducing the kitchen time everyday.

Hello! My name is Heather and I am from Washington which means the best fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables! I am so glad I found this group! Cuz quick is what I am all about! I have always eaten fast freezer foods... but more like pizza and burritos... I hate cooking for just myself! So, this will be the perfect place to experiment with making my own healthy freezer foods! Perfect!

Hi I am Pam
I have been putting all the recipes Ive found online and cook books etc for Once a month cooking (freezer coooking) I have successfully cooked one month and froze the meals. I usually take 2 days when I have the weeked off. I have been out of it for a while and off of sparks for a while so I'm looking forward to doing getting back to it again. It doesn't look like I'll have another opportunity for cooking days until mid Feb so at this point I'm just looking thing up and putting all my recipes on sparks people to make it easier for tracking planning and printing shopping lists.

Hi, I'm Maria

I love to cook whole foods and things from scratch as much as possible but don't have the time to do it daily. Looking forward to cooking in bulk and freezing.

Finally finally finally on Friday I got a new freezer and they took away the one that didn't work. We have installed tiny analog stick on thermometers. This one also has a feature which will tell you if, G-d forbid!, it gets hot in there.

Before it came I was still freezing but not to much:

chocolate chip cookie dough
oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough
an extra sweet potato pie (I tend to cook double the amount)
and other odds and ends.

Sunday evening I prepared two lasagnes (I cooked the noodles and assembled it but didn't bake it)
Today I ordered meat and I will, G-d willing, do a few things:

1. make meat sauce
2. Form hamburger patties and freeze
3. Prepare dump chicken (you put the chicken with a marinade and when you want to cook defrost and the prep work is done besides sliding it into a roasting pan. do a search on "dump chicken" and you'll find a few sites if you're interested

I'm so excited! Yey!

freezer update! apparently the compressor is also broken. My husband had spokent to the main person where we bought the appliance and he had told him that we would get a replacement if something else was the matter. So we shall see. I have a whole plan set up for mains, side dishes and desserts.

One thing I did was make 4 batches of chocolate chip cookie dough. I used the Make a Mix book recipe. Next time, however, I'm going to use another recipe. I find that for both Make a Mix and the 30-day Freezer Cookbook I like their main ideas and concepts much more than the actual recipes they have.

I have a somewhat restrictive diet (kosher) so that also limits my usage of their recipes. But I find I can easily make my own mixes although they won't be as universal as the Make a Mix ladies are but that's fine.

Now the plan is to make mixes I can stick in the pantry and as soon as I have a working freezer and it's been running for a few days I'll start with actually cooking and freezing.

I want to prepare mixes for:

chocolate cake
oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
pancakes
muffins
rolls

Well I made the pancake mixes and muffin mix (oops! Need to buy cinnamon and add it in before I use it) and made some crescent rolls which I'll bake tomorrow, G-d willing. Was going to make pizza dough to somehow cram into my working freezer (it's a small freezer on top of the fridge) but ran out of flour! OOPS!

so apparently the guy is coming back to fix this thing. If he can't there's a good chance I'll get a new one. Given that for almost a month and a half it hasn't worked hopefully I can get things going soon, G-d willing!

Hello. I'm ready to freeze. I got a 13.7 cu.ft freezer right before Passover and it broke around 49 days after. It's still broken! WAH. Someone came to fix it and I prepared a list of everything I was going to make next week: lasagne, baked elbows, meat sauce, hamburgers, pastry dough, cookie dough, frozen lemon juice, etc etc and now it looks like I get to wait a bit longer.

I got a book about 30-day freezer cooking and I tend to take a week and at the end of the week I've had things cooked for that week plus for the remaining weeks with a couple of days as exceptions (one day is always leftovers) and one day is either eggs/potatos or breaded fish/potatoes which I always get prepared at the fish store (okay no potatoes).

So now I'm waiting and waiting to get my freezer. I really want to batch cook/bake too!

What type of Freezer wrap or containers do you use? You need to lable your items with a 'sharpie ' or something when you put it in the freezer. I have a maginet board and write what I put inside on the freezer in our garage with the dates. My freezer in the basement has beef and those market wraps are pretty easy to read.

Nice to meet you... hope you get organized!

Hi: I need to get my freezer organized. I have a freezer full of food, but what is in it, is hard for me to know. Maybe someone can tell me how they keep track, because if I don't see it, I sort of forget it's there.

I do do soups a lot and freeze them. Especially in the winter and especially since it is only 2 of us at home now. It is so much nicer to just reach in and get something that has already been prepared.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Gayle

Hi everyone,
I'm new to SparkPeople this week, but have been into keeping a well stocked freezer for 12 years. Sometimes I do better at it than other times. I'm a wahm, homeschooling mom to four fun kids. Life is busy, and having a freezer with stuff in it ready to cook and eat makes life easier. When things get low, we always seem to eat out a lot more. Look forward to getting to know you all here and learning about how you are filling your freezer with healthy foods.

Hi everyone.....

I have tried to start batch cooking, but my problem is I have limited ideas, let alone healthy ones to put in the freezer. However, I am away from the home at least 12 hours per day, and when I cook on Sunday for the whole week, it leaves me more time to exercise and spend quality time with my family vs. cooking and cleaning up.... I would love to join and learn from all of you what you make and the recipes you share. Hope to hear from you soon.

Becky

Today marks the first day of the rest of your life. Where are you going? What are you preparing for? What is your mission? Why are you here?

Hi - I'm Marla & I'm from Ohio. I'm married to a wonderful man & have 3 grown children & 4 grandchildren. I've been batch cooking & freezing for quite awhile now.

I have kidney failure & take dialysis 3 times a week & am too tired to cook some days. That's why I like to make things ahead on my "good days". I'm looking forward to sharing ideas with you all. So glad I found you & so glad you started this group Amanda.

Hi, I'm Shirley and I live with my hubby, Rich in beautiful Southern Oregon. We don't have children...just one very spoilt furbaby, Misty. I found this team while reading Kari's blog. I have fibromyalgia and there are days I can't hardly get out of bed.......much less prepare meals for Rich and I. So I love to keep prepared foods in the freezer that Rich can take out and microwave for us. It is also a big savings in the grocery budget. I'm unable to work to contribute to the household funds so I try to stretch the dollars as far as I can. I do as much canning and preserving as I can for our pantry. I try to get as many fruits and vegetables as I can for free.....otherwise I buy from local growers. I tried making our cat, Misty's food........she tried to cover up the Cat Stew like it was yesterday's news. So I continue to buy her food. I hope to make new friends and find new recipes in this group. Hugs, Shirley

HEY! I love this! I do this all the time. I purposely make more food at dinner time for lunches through out the week not just for myself but for my hubby. Not only is it healthier but saves on TONS of cash! Which is the main reason I started doing it was because hubby was spending sometimes 10 bucks and I was spending about 5 EVERYDAY for lunch OUCH! ANYWAYS you already know me BUT the new people who come here may not so here it goes. I am Kari, I have 3 beautiful little girls which you will soon find out are my everything. I have a wonderful husband who is a Corpsman (kinda like an LPN) in the US Navy and we are currently in Italy but heading back stateside soon. I am a very busy person with my 3 girls and hubby and trying to be the best Mommy and Wife I can be. I am very outgoing and am very positive (most of the time LOL) I laugh often but smile more :D That is my moto in life :DI take pleasure in helping people out so I am a good person to come to when you are in a down time. Also it motivates me when I can pick you up off the floor and help ou get on that wagon again. I am here for the same reason as everyone else. To get healthy but my main motivation is my girls. LET STOP THE CYCLE PEOPLE :D:D:D:D:D!!!!

Welcome to SPARKPeople.com Team Freezer Queen!!! As the creator of this new team, I welcome you with open arms. I hope you find the information posted friendly and helpful in your everyday life.
The reason this team was created was to help other women like myself with busy lives take the edge off by having a freezer full of healthy homemade meals ready any day of the week. I know what it's like to have screaming children, a messy house and most of all a hungry husband all after you at the same time for attention. By having your freezer jammed full of meals, you can have more time for your family while still staying on track with your diet goals.
