Hi everyone.. My name is Frances I just turned the big 40 this may. With that I decided to make some changes In my life. Exercise alone was no longer good enough. I decided to make some further changes and start eating clean. I have been eating clean since July 1 of this year. So far it's been going good. Just boring food. I miss all my Latin food arroz, fried chicken, piernel plantains etc... 💕 But I know that this will further my challenge to eat well and stay healthy for my kids. Just rejoined spark people for all it's benefits... I reading clean eating for Dummies in hope of further educating myself.. Hope to learn from all of you!!

Hi Everyone - My name is Carole, I am seriously overweight... no health problems, related to my weight, but I figure if I continue to stay this overweight something is bound to catch me! I am 50+ years old... and have been trying to losed weight practically FOREVER!

I have been overweight ALL my life except 2 times, when I dropped 60+ pounds each time, once in 1977 and again in 1996! I can't seem to get the "lifestyle change" figured out!

I am hoping by "eating clean" it will help drop weight as well as keep my health issues at bay.

I know I will not go 100% "clean", but think every little bit will help! My daughter-in-law has gone "gluten free" and "clean" and she has dropped some weight - not a lot, but some, and she feels better... she has also recently gotten pregnant, so I want to be able to spend time with my grand-baby and incorporate DILs food choices in our lives.

Today is my first day - and I know there will be "slip ups" as I try to change the thinking in my family of 4... but compromises CAN and will be made by all!

Thanks for listening - I hope to check in with other forums on the subject! ☼

Hi all! I'm Jackie. I've been a clean-eater for sometime, but I have moments where I step off. I love the concept and how I feel when I eat clean! My goal is to come on for the next three months while the love of my life is off serving in the USAF. I am already tiny and about 10 lbs from my weight goal, but this is more about how I feel when I eat clean and sticking to it :)
Hi everyone :) :)

Peace and love

Jackie

Good morning, everyone!
My name is Naomi and I live just outside of Baltimore. I am married to the greatest man ever, who tells me how gorgeous I am every day. I have 3 beautiful children; 16, 14 and 4. I just recently started introducing clean eating into our diet at home and I have to say, that I have never felt better. I have found a great blog with tons of clean eating recipes and we love experimenting with them. I am hoping this is the time for me to finally get rid of bad habits and the cravings. I want to be healthy. I want to have the energy to keep up with my little one. I am excited for this group and I look forward to establishing a relationship with all of you.
Here is the link to the Clean Eating Blog I was mentioning above.

Hi everyone, just fell on this clean eating movement at I was looking for more ways to eat natural and GMO free. I don't think I will become a full fledged clean eater but I do want to be as clean as I possibly can. What I mean is right now I am unemployed and on food stamps and can't really afford to buy everything organic, but I am trying to focus more on the dirty dozen and not buying anything that contain GMO's.

Hi, my name is Pam. I started going to a nutrition therapist about 2.5 months ago and, after first putting me on an anti-fungal diet, she gave me a long list of foods I am sensitive to that I must stay away from for "awhile". Anyway, I was already dropping weight, had given up sugar, caffeine, bread, etc., so I decided to just keep eating "clean." I returned to SparkPeople to track calories and fitness and have been having a blast searching Pinterest and other websites all over the internet finding new clean recipes to try. I feel so much better and I have lost 14 lbs! I can't wait to learn more about clean eating and making it a lifestyle for the rest of my life. My current challenge is learning the habit of meal planning as well.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Hello everyone.

I need a desperate change. I am 42 and seriously overweight. I am not doing too well health wise. I am really sluggish and tired all the time. My doctor suggested I try clean eating so here I am. I have a lot that I want to do, but it's hard when I'm tired all the time.

As I am a beginner to clean eating, I'm hoping to learn everything I need to learn here.

I recently started off the new year with a 7 day clean eating challenge. I am 42 years old and have improved my eating habits in the past 3 years. But I really was not clearly looking at the ingredients or how the food was processed. I feel great when I eat clean, so this is going to be the way I eat 95% of the time. I am hoping this team can help with some great ideas.

Life is for living!

Hello!
My name is Bobbie, I'm 43 3/4, live in Pittsburgh, and this is my Christmas present to myself. I have read Tosca's books and Clean Eating Mag, and now want to restart my life by eating clean. At first I thought eating clean would be "too expensive", but isn't being unhealthy even more expensive?? Any tips would be greatly appriciated!

Hello all

I am a newbie at clean eating, although I realised I have been doing it since the start of my diet without branding it: cleaneating. The name is handy and reminds me of my goal when choosing or preparing food.

I have lost 31 lbs, exercising and eating right over about 5 months. I still have between 17 and 24 lbs to go to get to my ideal weight.

I have learned so far that if I do not eat much bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. Then I can manage to lose more quicker. I increase protein and vegetables. So far so good. Does anyone have any advice on what i may risk if I do not eat bread pasta rice or potatoes at all.

Thank you in advance
stay encouraged.

Hi! I'm 44 years old and am very very slowly re-learning how to interact with food. Never thought I'd say THAT.

I currently am doing on my own a 100 day clean eating challenge to motivate myself. I'm on day 4 and definitely feel alert and awake. Not groggy or crabby, like I have been known to be on many days.

I'm looking forward to giving and getting support here and getting more food ideas so I don't get bored.

Hello, My name is Andi and I am a travel and food junkie who loves nothing more than going someplace new and tasting all it has to offer. I have a small blog : http://amessinthekitchen.tumblr.com/
I love to cook and take pictures of the meals I make. The Good/Bad/ and even Ugly.

I decided to make a change, because I have had enough. I am happily married. However my marriage isn't all smiles. The last ten years have been nothing but war, and I mean it. I am a military wife and our marriage has been in this all consuming war. In the last ten years I have seen multiple deployments, separations and living on my own. I have given up so much of myself to be that together (or so it would seem to those outside) wife that takes care of all those who are around her. Many disappointments and life steps not reached. I have not been fortunate to have children. So usually it is just me and my pups. I decided to make a change in me and start focusing on me.

This is the start of my journey...

Hi Everyone! My name is Leah. I'm 28, currently living in Munich, Germany (originally from Chicago Area). I just had my first baby in August and this preggo weight is not coming off!! I joined SP in 2007 to get healthy before I went on a backpacking trip around Europe and it was great, so I figured that it can help me again now! I have about 20lbs of preggo weight to lose, but still a ways to go from there to get down to my ideal weight. My plan of attack is to slowly start eating more and more raw foods and to get into running. I have NEVER been a runner, but I started doing the Couch to 5k program and it is going ok. I can't always get out 3x per week with juggling baby and my hubby's schedule and having very sleepless nights to top it off, but I am slowly making my way through the program. I hope to get a jogging stroller in the spring so I can run with the baby. It is a lot harder to find time to be healthy while dealing with an infant, but I just keep telling myself that any little thing is better than nothing! I hope that all of us can find the motivation here to kick off and stick to a great, healthy 2012!!!

HI, my name is Teri and I am new to clean eating. I started last week and so far I like it. the only problem so far is I can't seem to get in five or six meals a day. the most I can get in is four. I am eating every three hours and I have to force myself to do that as I am not hungry I am still in the learning mode. I weighed in today and I have lost 6.5 lbs as of last Thursday. so I am happy with the weight loss . I am so happy I found this site as it has helped me understand clean eating better.

Hello, my name is Erica. I've been sparking for a little over a year but I'm new to clean eating. I bought one of Tosca's books last year and read it but didn't really want to make radical changes in my diet. Clean Eating seems to be the only way to not go over my sodium, so I'm trying to Eat Clean at least 80% of the time. I struggle with being all or nothing, so I'm trying to give myself allowances of "unclean" food so I stick with this plan and don't give up. I'm hoping eating mostly clean will get me through this plateau and help me reach my goal weight. Only 27lbs to go!

Back to SP to lose 30+ pounds so I can try for a baby! Ready to get fit and healthy and stay that way this time.

Hi Everyone!

I'm a teacher and musician from the Boston, MA and Providence, RI area. I am very interested in the clean eating lifestyle and program. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and also looking for lots of guidance and support in this change of life style as I work toward a healthier me. DH will pretty much eat anything I make. I will likely not tell him that it's "clean" or "healthy." LOL

Hi all,
I haven't logged into SP for a very long time but today I started my new clean eating program. A friend I met on facebook got me interested and it's taken me about a month to actually get started. (I'm the queen of "i'll start next week")
Yesterday I dropped a mortgage payment at Whole Foods to begin revamping my pantry and refrigerator.
Started my day with a rice protein berry smoothy and for a snack had celery and almond butter. I'm really hungry right now so obviously I need to maybe eat a little more in the morning since my lunch is not for another 90 minutes.
I know it'll take a while to get use to this.
I've printed off many recipes from my friends blog to help me get started and I'll be working on making those today and tomorrow. I'm a grab and go person, I hate preparing meal after meal so I have to be able to grab something mostly done and sit and eat and not spend hours every day cooking and preparing foods.
Her blog is thejoyofcleaneating.com if you're interested in following her.
I'm really excited about this new plan and losing some weight but more importantly having more energy and maybe getting rid of some health issues I've let pile up over the years.

Hi ! I am Linda, I am a 53 year old mom of 3 kids : a 21, 19, and 14year old. I found out about Clean Eating while cruising around Sparkpeople. It makes perfect sense to me. I checked out the magazine at Barnes and Noble yesterday ...love it ! So here I am am ! Ready to learn more.

“Wellness isn’t about deprivation and it’s not about perfection. It is about pointing yourself in the direction of growth, training yourself to get comfortable with your highest potential, and then taking small steps to support that shift. Hi!

I am new to SP as of two days ago. My goal is to lose 25lbs before my first son turns 3 at the end of October. I really want to learn how to eat healthy so I can become healthier and also to have my children and husband eat better. I think I will pick up Tosca Reno's book as alot of people talk about how wonderful it is. I need to learn what the good foods are and I think one of the most important things is meal planning.

Good luck fellow team members!

Hello all,

Well, I'm just now starting to eat clean, and I'm not sure how well I'll do, so I'm looking for tips and inspiration. I'm usually really consistent with work outs, but my eating is my big downfall. Ironically, when I actually DO stick to a healthy eating plan, the pounds melt away. For some reason, it's difficult for me to stick to a diet- perhaps they are too restrictive OR perhaps it's just me. emoticon I've always struggled with trying to eat my veggies, and perhaps I'm not planning things too well? Any one have any suggestions?

Hi everyone
I have tried clean eating over the past years, but a lot of them seemed pretty strict and It was hard to stick with but I just picked up Tosca Reno's book and I think hers is very doable...I know this is the best way for health and to loose weight and maintain...something that I think I can actually use as a lifestyle...
I think I am going to buy Tosca Reno's recipe book and look into the clean eating magazine variety always helps
I am excited about this and to get started!

Hi, I've just restarted back on a Clean Eating program. I have dabbled with it over the past couple of years but something always pulled me away. I really like how I feel when I'm on it and really love how the food cravings just completely disappear. Looking for support to make it stick this time.

I have found that my current "dietary plan" is not getting me back into the shape that I want to be in, and is not the healthiest eating, either. So, I have decided to give Clean Eating a shot. I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about it, but I've heard a couple other Sparkers say how good it is...so why not give it a shot?!?!

So I have adopted a clean eating attitude for sometime, but did not know the extent of real clean eating until I read the book In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, try to eat animal products from more organic or naturally-raised means, and whole grains. But after reading this book, I've discovered that still a lot of the foods I was eating were still moderately, if not highly processed and being forced upon us consumers/citizens by the government and food interest groups. I am really frustrated by nutritionism and it's ideals. I am getting ready to move back to the land and am excited about the ability to grow my own. I am always looking for ways to purchase natural products though, as I know I can't grow everything. I hope I can find some good resources with this team in helping me achieve my goals with even more clean eating.

I'm doing this already, noticed the team on a member's page, so here I am! Why it has taken me so long to get out of that sugar fix baffles me. A little bit of that stuff goes a long, long way with me.

I have a question. I've noticed when I eat any frozen dinners (including Smart Ones) I feel hungrier after I eat. Is it the chemical stuff they put in these to preserve them or make them taste better? Does anyone know? So, I'll be off those as soon as I eat up what's in my freezer.

Hope to get to know all of you better.

Hi! I bought my first issue of Clean Eating magazine this past weekend. I made 2 of the recipes and was so surprised at how easy and delicious the meals were. I may not be able to live a completely clean lifestyle, but I can try to eat more clean foods! Spark on!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Perinda and I have been a member of sparkpeople since July of 2008. I have not been very successful in my quest to lose weight. About eight days ago I started to eat clean and I really think this is the best thing I have ever done for me. It was really hard the first few days....no salt, dairy, cofee etc but I am getting used to it. I feel so much better. My blood pressure has decreased tremendously. My feet used to be swollen all the time and now the swelling is gone. I am just amazed at the changes that have taken place in my body. I joined this sight to get support in my journey and also to get ideas of how and what to eat.

Hi everyone - my name is Stephanie. I've been on SP about 11 months. Since I've been here, I've met my weight and this is the best part - I quit smoking last summer emoticon In November I started eating clean and I still have a long way to go there but I am just doing it slowly. My family is not with my on this and that's ok. They do eat healthy most of the time. I'm glad to be here and hope to learn and hopefully I can give back to the team as well.

Hi my name is Jeannie. I have been on Spark People for about 2 years now. I have lost 160+ pounds in that time. I believe I have been pretty much clean eating for about two years now, but I never really gave it a name. I feel better when I stay away from processed food. I love shopping at my local farmer's market. Eating well makes me feel good.
I am actually here looking for suggestions on things to eat during a marathon. I just ran my first half marathon, and at some point I think I am going to try a full. All that "goo" and power bars just go against my "natural is better" train of thought.

Hey Everyone, my name is Adrienne and I'm a bit of a fitness fanatic and have been for about 5 years. I'm 5'6" and at my heaviest was 189 pounds when I was 19. Luckily for me, my dad's a personal trainer, and I managed to drop 65 pounds through diet and exercise. All was well until I turned 21 and became kind of a party animal (alcohol has calories, apparently). Being 24 now, I've gotten most of that out of my system and have started eating clean . It's been about a month, and I've totally fallen in love with the lifestyle. I genuinely feel awesome, and the food I'm eating has really transformed by body. I'm basically here to meet other people who eat clean and exercise, and would love to swap recipes (I'm an awesome cook) and workout routines. My live-in boyfriend is a junk food addict- I'm trying to help him with his ways- but I'd love to connect with other like-minded people here. emoticon

Hello I am fairly new to this team. I have made a commitment to myself and my family to eat cleaner this year and forward. Not only clean eating, but making healthier, consious decisions when I pick my produce (organic, local) and meats(antibiotic, hormone, cage free etc.) and dairy. I am trying new things and I like it because it makes me feel good about what I am putting in my body, even if it costs more. I will make smarter choices in my purchases so that I can eat healthier. Thats all there is to it.

Hello! I am Masha. I am very familiar with Clean eating and it has brought me great success in the past- amazing success, actually! My biggest enemy is sugar- I am very vulnerable to baked goods when I am stressed out and have been very slack about my nutrition for the past 6 months. I hope to stay on track with the help of sparkpeople and this team!

Hi, my name is Faith, I have been a member of SP for years and have viewed many of the forums. I finally decided to join this forum because like you all i am very interested in clean eating. I own all the books and subscribe to the magazines with very little results..so I decided I needed a support system of people going through the same struggles and here I am...I am very excited about meeting new friends and sharing goals...

Hi, my name is Brenda and I'm so glad I found this group!! I am going to start a clean eating lifestyle the first of the year. I'm fairly new to eating clean and I still need to learn a lot but with baby steps I'm sure my family and I can do it, it does seem that eating clean isn't going to be as restricting as I thought =) I'm looking forward to learning a lot from all the posts emoticon

hello,

i'm rachel and live since 2 months in new caledonia.
My continual search for a healthy lifestyle has brought to this team.
I haven't bought the book yet, but i have some ideas about what clean eating means.
If you don't mind going on my page and have a look at my diet (it's monday for me now) and tell me if my meal plan is ok.
I'll buy the book as soon as possible.
What i like about this way of eating, is the meal splitting, which should avoid stomach ache, and hunger.

i've tried many times to split my meals but ended eating to much because i avoided one of snack, but after reading some articles i understand now i was doing it wrong.

thank you

LOL PasadenaRose ... you'll take the cooler. ;-) Actually, eating out as not as big of an issue for me, as I can order grilled chicken or fish, pretty much anywhere, and a plain salad. I just cut the fillet of fish, or chicken breast in half immediately, and box my unused portion to take home. Or order a shrimp cocktail and don't dip it in the sauce. But when going to people's homes? I just tell them up front that I am being super strict with meals and I don't want to force anyone to have to eat their food "my way" ... so I bring my own and my husband and son are uber excited that someone is cooking who might actually include gooey, yummy, cheesy sauces and maybe even pasta at dinner time. lol So far, no one has been offended at all, but more curious about how the whole thing works. :)

Welcome Amy! I think portions are many of our problems, lol. But once you get used to weighing and measuring everything, it gets a lot easier. Since I started being serious about eating the 5 small meals per day, I have found it a lot easier to stay within the allotted portions ... I'm just not as hungry since my last meal was only 2 or 3 hours previous. :)

Hi Cherie! Everyone slides ... its the getting back up that counts! :)

Why ... breakfast is my most favorite meal of the day!! I get to break my fast and eat my most substantial meal ... I am much happier about waking up because I know something yummy is in store. Some favorites are Ezekiel 4:9 bread soaked in 2-3 eggwhites, then cooked french toast style (non-stick pan, no oil). I drizzle 2 scant tsp of Blue Agave syrup over it and then pour 1/4-1/2 cup blueberries, warmed, over the top. To die for. Also, steel cut, unsweetened oatmeal (1/2 cup) with a banana or chopped strawberries and cinnamon. Scrambled egg whites and ezekiel bread toasted, protein shakes, with toast and a small fruit side, such as 1/4 cup sliced berries. There are lots of great choices for breakfast. :)

I completely agree with PasadenaRose. It's not just about losing weight, it's about being healthier! I've only been eating clean for about a week now, but I feel great. So much more energy and I just feel happier! I've eaten a few things that wouldn't qualify as "clean", but I feel like any healthy changes in your diet are a step in the right direction. I'm also drinking at least 6 or 7 cups of water each day, which is a big improvement. I am definitely going to continue with this new lifestyle and hopefully continue to incorporate new healthy foods into my diet each day! emoticon

Hi guys, I am pretty new to clean eating. Been reading up on it and following the guidelines for about 2 weeks. I had slowly lost weight over the last couple of years but I have been plateaued for over a month. My old way of eating, although healthy by some standards, was no where near clean. I ate very few natural foods, all kinds of artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, packaged everything. And it just stopped working. I couldn't lose weight anymore no matter what I did. So, I went looking for something new and found Jillian's (Biggest Loser) book about clean eating (not called that but is the basis). Today, I actually created my own clean recipe and posted it on SparkRecipes. It's the Super Simple Cajun Shrimp Pasta. Really yummy. I got my kids and husband excited about this too so it's been a big adventure. So glad I have this team to learn from.

Hi,

I stumbled upon clean eating while perusing Spark forums and teams and then of course I had to rush out and buy Tosca's books. I had never heard of her before that.
I've been eating clean for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I haven't even been tempted to cheat which surprises me because I typically munch on junk while at work. It was common practice for me to eat a bag of mini candy bars (Snickers, Almond Joy or Kit Kats were my favorites), and also sour cream and cheddar potato chips washed down with a couple of large Red Bulls. Yikes!
No wonder I was struggling with those nagging 10 pounds. LOL
I am lucky in that I do like healthy food so it's not hard for me to eat the right things.
If the time comes that I hear Haggen Daz ice cream calling my name, I'll deal with that then, but for now I'm good.
The one obstacle I can foresee is eating out. Haven't had to face that yet and I'm not sure how to handle it...or eating at someone's home. I can't see taking my cooler with me.
I'm happy to find like minded people so we can journey on together. It's funny how some of my ill-informed co-workers think I'm radical. "You're the last person that needs to eat that way." Gee, we ALL need to eat this way. It's not just about losing weight.

Hello everyone, My name is Nancy and I am looking for support in the clean eating lifestyle. I have been trying to eat clean for about 1 year now and am successful about 75% of the time. I just joined the sparkpeople team a couple of weeks ago and have been tracking what I eat. I admit it - I am a junk foodoholic. My downfall is foods that are not very good for me.

In 2007, I saw the magazine Oxygen Fitness - I tried a couple of issue and knew that I wanted to adopt that lifestyle. I have always eaten fairly healthy except for a brief period when I worked outside the home and used a lot of convenience foods, which by the way no longer taste good to me now.

I recently graduated from a Culinary Arts program, the second year I focused on eating clean and exercise, I lost 10 pounds and dropped 2 pants sizes. Yeahh!!! Right now my weight has stablized but I am gaining muscle tone and losing inches. My bathroom scale tells me that my fat % is in the overweight range. I am 5'5.5" and weigh 145 pounds (on average). I am in a size 6 jean (albeit the relaxed version of the jean)

My husband says he wants to eat clean but makes no effort to learn what it is about nor makes any attempt to do so. It seems that he wants me to figure it out for him and then place what he ought to eat in front of him. It would be nice if we could work at it together, but after 29 years of marriage, I just don't see that happening. He'll eat clean only if I eat clean - Heeelllpp! I need support.

"Don't expect to be happy; change your expectations and be happy!"

HI. I am new to clean eating. I finished reading Michael Pollan's book, In Defense of Food, and was convinced that my family and I needed to clean up our act. We have always eaten very health consciously, however, after reading the book, I recognized that there was lots of room for improvement. I am a mother of two, ages 13 and 14. I am turning forty this October and am trying to not only get back in shape to reach that hallmark in my life, but I am also doing the 60 mile breast cancer walk and would love to make it!! I look forward to meeting everyone and sharing tips.

Hello! I am here to clean up my food plan. I am growing a nice big garden this year and that helps. I found out I get a bad skin rash when I eat process food. I think it's from MSG or HFCS. I started to do research and read labels. I've seen that are in almost every thing I was eating. No more for me!

Hey everyone, I just returned to SparkPeople after a long hiatus. I lost 20lbs in 2007-2008, then sustained a foot injury (that is still with me) and gained it all back over the last year. I learned a lot from that fit period of my life. First, I tend to overdo it and push myself too hard (thus the injury). And as far as eating goes, counting calories just does not work for me. I get obsessive about it, then get tired of entering every last morsel of food and stop altogether.

So this time I'm doing something that makes a lot more sense to me--clean eating. I already eat a lot of organic, locally grown, whole foods, so I'm on the right track. I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fish, eggs, milk, or butter (but I do enjoy cheese and sometimes yogurt). The trick will be adding more fruit and vegetables to my diet and avoiding snacks like crackers, chips, etc. Those are my downfall! I also like beer a little more than I should, heh.

My #1 barrier to healthy eating is failing to plan ahead. When I do cook, it's generally very healthy, but I'm bad at planning meals and preparing lunch/snacks to take to work every day.

Anyway, I'm excited to join this team and get motivated to eat clean, cook more, and plan ahead!

Hello to everyone! I am new to SP and was quite happy to find the clean eating team. I started clean eating about four months ago and love it! I haven't bought Tosca's book(s) yet but have followed her advice in the clean eating magazine (sister mag to Oxygen) and am now watching her TV show (Canada only for now, they say) Just wanted to say Hi and am looking forward to going through the team's forums.
CIAO for now emoticon

Hello. I'm sort of new here. I hadn't introduced myself yet because I couldn't find the time, and now that I'm laid off... well, now I have time. lol.

So, my name is Sophia, but Isabella works too (middle name), so whichever you feel like using. I live on the Charlton/Sturbridge, MA line. I'm 26. I'm not sure what else to say, except that I'm ready and willing to throw myself into something new, now that I have time and less stress on my hands.

Never let them see you cry. Some people would kill to see you fall.

Hello,
My name is Meghan and I've been eating clean off and on for the past 6 months. But I want to get serious now and I know this will help keep me on track. I have about 30 pounds more I want to lose. emoticon
