You made a very important point, while practicing Yoga what one is doing is more important than what it is on the dvd, online or even a class in a studio or gym. Yoga is a personal experience and what you feel, your alignment into the pose, you staying in the pose and the transition to other pose is what counts.

I watch the dvd to see how the sequence goes, then when I follow the sequence, I modify when I am not able to do the pose, I take my time. I learned in a studio and I 've found that Rodney Yee and Jason Crandell from Yoga Journal show and explain well the poses and the transition.

Thanks for the welcome! I've never done Yoga in a studio outside of taking it in high school gym class, and at that time I totally wasn't into it because our positions in the gym were based alphabetically and I was placed next to a guy I had a huge crush on, which made me very self-conscious!

So I really never paid attention to Yoga until I was in my early 20's and saw a short article in a magazine (probably Self) and decided to give it a try. I followed the sequence shown in the magazine, and then went out and bought a few books showing the different asanas. From that point, I was basically self-taught. I've tried DVDs, but I have a hard time following along and actually paying attention to what I'M doing as opposed to what's on the screen. However, I am open to trying DVDs or online courses again. Maybe if I watch things once before following along I'll get an idea of what's coming and be able to focus more on my own experience rather than looking at the screen to make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

Hello everyone! emoticon

I'm not exactly new to Spark People or the team, but it's been a few years since I've been around the website. Being here has helped me in the past, and after gaining a lot of weight during a very stressful 2013, I decided to come back as a part of reintroducing a healthier lifestyle day to day.

As I said, I'm not NEW to the team, but I'm pretty sure I joined towards the end of my previous experience with SP so essentially I guess I'm new to all you! I'm looking forward to finding some buddies and being a part of the team!
