I designed and implemented variations on both sun salutations and moon salutations over the past few years, in my own home practice sequence. I have attempted to apply what I've learned about mandala salutations (a Shiva Rea innovation) to my own practice; however, I am learning more about them from my current yoga teacher who follows the lineage upon which Shiva Rea's influence is grafted.
I pattern them - in their current stage of development - in a motif that follows the waves of the ocean, the sine curve, advancing and retreating, high tide, neap tide, circadian rhythms and the complex mathematics of maintaining balance and equilibrium and striving for bliss ...

Welcome, we are so glad to have another yoga lover join us. I started learning about 8 years ago and in January will finish 500 hours of teacher training. Since the middle of March, with one exception while I was traveling, I have practiced six days a week and I can't believe the difference it is making in my life. I do my practice at 6 AM and it includes 14 sun salutations.
I'm so glad I joined this group. I actually joined years ago but then fell off the SP wagon so it's great to be back.
My yoga experience is minimal and mostly fitness-based but I really enjoy it. I did a few classes with a friend of mine a couple of years ago and have, on and off, practiced the odd pose by myself but without any regularity, tried meditating etc. I hope I'm starting genuine practice now; it's been a couple of weeks and I'm still practicing, learning new things and actually improving! Super satisfying to notice improvements over such a short space of time; I'm already more graceful moving between the poses, holding them with greater ease, increasing stamina, able to push myself further etc.
The sun salutations team goal has really helped, starting the day with these is almost habit now, roots me right in my body, gets my heart pumping, feels like a routine whatever else is happening.
