Hi! My name is Shanti (yes, it's my birth name), and I'm a long time yogini. I first started when I was 10 and have kept at it since. I started teaching yoga a year and half ago after finishing teacher training through YogaWorks and recently switched from a busy teaching schedule to substitute teaching only (for now). Even though I did my training through YogaWorks I'm not an active student there, I mostly do a home practice based off of Gary Kraftsow's Viniyoga books and DVDs. I hope to eventually become a Viniyoga Therapist with Gary's institute and also go back to YogaWorks for their 300hr program.
I personally do yoga because it balances my body, keeps me aware and is great cross-training for me as a dancer. I have a few unique skeletal qualities such as scoliosis, a sway back and hyper-mobile joints, all of which have greatly improved through a regular yoga practice and from being active. Most people can't even tell my spine is a little unusual these days unless I'm standing right next to someone with a completely straight spine!
I feel so grateful for the wisdom of yoga and how healthy my body and mind are because of it.
My resolution for 2013 is to do yoga or meditation every day for the next year so I'm really glad there's a yoga community for support on here! I'm looking forward to reading your posts!
