Hello everyone! I am new here and just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Laurie and I am in the Sunrise Beach/Laurie area. Yeah, I got named after the town....

So anyways I am 43 and deal daily with depression, anxiety/panic disorder, insomia, and stage 3 kidney disease. My current goal is to gain 35 pounds because I am grossly underweight. Some people say they would give anything in the world to be as skinny as me...I wouldn't....it's no fun being sick all the time.

Now on to the not so depressing stuff... I am the mother of 7 beautiful, grown children, and grandmother to 1 1/2 (the other one will be here in May!). My interests outside of getting healthy are crafting (crochet, knit, rug weaving, and more) and genealogy.

Life is like money, SPEND IT WISELY!

Hi Everyone! Like Sarah, I have been in Spark People before, lost over 25 pounds, developed a healthy lifestyle, and am back again after a couple of years! So I know I can do this again. I lost several very, very dear friends of mine along with trying to do my program without much, now no support, here I am. I have a DH of almost 44 years, 3 adult girls, 1 dog and 2 cats, 9 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and many "grand pets." I had a huge houseful for 3 to 7 days over the Thanksgiving Holidays so my DH and I are "listening" to the silence, although we loved all the noise when it was here. I live in Wildwood, which is a suburb in West County St. Louis, not too far from 6 Flags, if that helps!

My DH and I have many medical challenges but are positive and proactive in dealing with them. We are very close to an excellent gym (any advice about joining?) and almost to anything we could want within driving distance. However, after spending time living about 1 mile out of Washington, DC, my sense of driving distance is probably different than others?

My name is Jacob and I live on a farm in the Lake of the Ozarks area, I'm 73 years old, I've had cancer, 2 heart attacks, 3 stents, a stroke, an artificial hip, diabetes, arthritis, it seems like I better do something about this extra 100+ pounds I'm carrying around ... I've been with SparkPeople 5 days now and have been pretty faithful in staying within or under 1500 calories a day ... My mom was the youngest of 13 kids, all 13 lived into their 90's and 100's, so it looks like I've got a few more years left, it would be easier if I was at a normal weight ... Plus, I've got 3 kids and 10 grandchildren to love ...
Obesity is a surplus gone to waist ... Definition of a surpus is: more than what is needed ...

Hi, my name is Karen and I live in St. Joseph. I had back surgery 4 weeks ago today, and am doing well. Just started back to work yesterday, & I'm ready to get on with life now that I'm pain free. I'd like to lose 40 lbs. because I think it would be a lot easier on my joints and I would just feel better all the way around. I'm looking forward to utilizing the tracker to keep me accountable. I'm not a very social person anymore, I've had 6 breast surgeries on the left & 8 on the right. I have been trying to stay upbeat ever since my health issues began. At 25 I had a partial hysterectomy, by 29 my first 6 breast surgeries had been performed. There have been numerous other surgeries & reconstructions done, but having 2 small little girls at home during all of this I remained unshaken & always moving forward in a positive way so as not to put my girls, husband & family thru any pity parties or additional stress. Becoming more intuned with my body over the years I have learned how to care for, do things and alleviate most new problems that arise. However the weight issue with health & medication restrictions was becoming more than I could do without the right help, education, influence & camaraderie. Numerous searches, apps, & etc. finally lead me to Sparkpeople!! In just this small amount of time that I've been with this program has been the greatest, most convenient, most comfortable, most rewarding program that I have had the pleasure to interact with!! I pray that I will be able to continue this wonderful journey of better health & education!! Thanks so much, this program has helped me more already than I can ever begin to express!! When I was in my 20's I did low calorie and a lot of walking. I lost 60 pounds. I wish it was that easy now at 59.

My name is Paula and I live in Ash Grove. I am disabled and hard to exercise due to chronic pain. I am going to have surgery to help lose weight. I hope as I lose weight it will help my pain.

Hi, my name is Jenny. I live in Missouri. happily married have two great kids. I weigh close to 300 pounds, I was very blessed a few years ago to be able to take off 40 pounds. in the past year or so had some major things happen to us, sadly gained my weight back plus some. Hello, my name is Paula. I live in Ash Grove MO. It is Green county. About 17 miles north of Springfield. I am at the starting gate here. I am reading articles and watching videos on this site. I need get my nutrition right, I have chronic pain and fibomyalgia. My pain is in my lower back and my right knee. Had a knee replacement done by a quack doctior. That was 7 years ago and there is nothing they can do for me. Both of these pains have me in a wheelchair or in bed. I plan on having weight loss surgery soon. It is still a lifestyle change and eating the right foods. Exercice will be hard, but I will Start out slow with chair exercises.

Hi! Im Peg. Never too old to get healthy, right. Had 8 months worth of surgeries last year, and now I am learning to eat a whole new way. At my age it will be a challenge. So I will depend on this site to help. I already get daily Pinterest stuff, so a great set of recipes and exercise to get me started. Hi, my name is Susan. I was born in Kansas City, grew up in Belton, and returned after many years to live in Hermitage and then Springfield, which I now call that my 'hometown.' I recently retired from Federal Government service after 36 years but ... have failed at retirement as I just took a part-time cashier position at Home Depot. Hello, just starting setting up my account yesterday, but I joined the site over a year ago. I'm a busy stay at home mom with two kids down in the Ozarks. I'm loving the spring weather we're having and look forward to spending more time outdoors with the kids. I, too, have bad knees (had arthroscopic surgery at a young age) and find quite a few typical workouts to be too much. However, I have found that you can burn just as many calories walking on a treadmill at 2mph than you can on the higher levels (faster speeds put more pressure on your knees because your body weight is compressing on each step). The trick is to increase the incline, which works your leg muscles more, and, I believe, helps to strengthen the knee over time. I've only been a member at the gym for 3 months, but I can already feel a difference in my flexibility and balance and strength, even if I haven't lost any weight yet. My motivation so far has been acknowledging the small victories. Good luck to you.

Always was thin and great shape - then i hit mid 40's! bad knees. Busy schedule. (working and coaching.) between being busy and worrying about bad knees, I put on the ugly weight, and now I am going for it - just need to feel happy about myself again. I miss being in great shape. My name is Mel and I'm like many of you - not new to SparkPeople, but back and trying again. I'm an-almost 33-year old, single mother of one.

I've had success with weight loss in the past, but then I get "cocky" and lazy and it all comes back. I can't say I have a hard time "finding" the time to workout, I have a hard time "making" the time to workout. I'm guilty of giving in to the Winter Doldrums and absolutely LOVE when spring finally arrived because it means MORE. TIME. OUTSIDE.

As my daughter gets older, I do find that it's easier to workout because she can do a lot of things with me. We're planning to start doing some C25K training once the weather here in MO figures out what it's doing (anyone else tired of Mother Nature's Bi-Polar Weather Disorder?!).

In the meantime, I try to commit to walking the dogs for 20-30 minutes after work (when the weather permits) and am currently altering some eating habits.

Hi Im Tracy living in Lebanon Mo. While it snowed today I spent the time to set up my Sparkpeople profile and trackers. I have a goal different from some...Im 58 and aging physically so thought I would work on training myself to live in peak condition, physically and mentally!
I hope to reach my peak at the age of 60 and then be ready for the second half!

Hi I am new to this team, and re joined spark"s I had lost 83 pounds but have gained 23 back so would like to get it off plus an extra 45! I know I can do this I did it once before emoticon Just takes time, effort, motivation, and friends that are going through the same thing. Hi Everyone! I am not new to Spark, but I am about to "re-new" myself and weight loss struggle. I am 62 and live in Branson West. 10 years ago, I had Gastric ByPass and lost well over 150+ pounds. As a 10 year post op, the old struggles come back and as the pounds inch back up, I renew my "plan" and bring it back down to a number I am willing to not go over. I will NOT ever go back to my old life, but every now and then, I need that "kick" to get back on the right path. I am committing myself to remain on the right path and get back to the loss that I need to strive for.

Hi everyone, figured I better introduce myself before I forget again, lol. My name is Deanna (Dee) and I live in the St. Louis, Missouri region. I have one son (two if you count my significant other) and he turned 16 back in November. I'm trying to be a good example for him. He's not "fat" by any means but he is overweight and I'm encouraging him to increase his healthier habits. I have already lost a great deal of weight but still have quite a bit to go. When I first started my journey back in April of 2006, my son was 8 and I was told I wouldn't live to see his 10th birthday if I didn't do something. I weighed in at 500 pounds. April 4, 2006 my life changed forever when I had gastric bypass surgery. At first the weight just fell off then it became harder. Two years after surgery I had gotten down to 250 pounds. At that point though I realized that they operated on my stomach not my head. Since I hadn't dealt with the reasons behind the weight I began gaining weight back. I got all the way back up to 375 pounds before I decided enough was enough. I began dealing with the emotional issues behind the weight loss, concentrated on my eating and exercise, and the weight is slowly coming back off. It's much harder now that I am almost 8 years out from surgery. But with determination it is coming off. I am currently back down to 294. My ultimate goal is 185. I hope to be able to give support as well as receive it. We're all in this together! emoticon

Good morning, Everyone! I am not a new Spark user, but I am coming back with renewed motivation. I live in Joplin, Missouri and I am a work-at-home mom. I have 1 son of my own and 2 step-children (a boy and girl). Hi Everyone! I live in Columbia, MO and I am currently a veterinary student and grad student working on a Master's degree. Hi. Newbie, but veteran at weight control programs. Need to lose close to 100 pounds, as I'm the biggest I've ever been. Can't quite believe it. Trying to change my obsessive thoughts about food as well as the behaviors. I don't think you can do one without the other. Long term, I'd like to be able to hike on our vacation to the West, at least somewhat, bend over without spreading my feet apart, wear more of the clothes in my closet, and be more excited when I look in the mirror. Husband and twin 11 year olds are terrifically supportive, non-judgemental, and so are friends. It just depends on me now. Spark looks like a great resource for support.

Hello all! I have been up and down with my weight loss journey for the last few years. I got serious about it in April of this year and started out at 282.8. As of today, I am happy to say that I am down to 237.4! I am very excited. I have been blessed with a very supportive man who has also been another reason I want to get healthy. He is in the air force and we talked about getting married in the next two years and I want to wow him in my dress :) I would ultimately like to get down to 150ish and my short term goal is to be under 200 by January. I don't work out in the gym. I do videos and activities outside. I would love some helpful hints on workouts though, specifically for the tricep area. Nice to be in the group!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Heather. I recently gained 30 pounds very rapidly from a bad reaction to some medication. I'm digging myself out of a pretty hefty depression from all of that and trying to get back on the health/weight loss/fitness train. It has been very difficult to do by myself. I work 40 hours a week, go to school full time, and am a full time single mom, so time for exercise is tricky. I'm hoping to get some good encouragement and support. I rejoined this site today after having been gone for about 6 months. I have been up and down with my weight for about the last 7 years. At my highest point I weighed 250, and I started walking about 3 miles a day and I got to my lowest of 200. Then just been a yoyo ever since, so I am here again in hopes of finally reaching my goal. I know I can do it, just have to stick to the plan. I also joined a gym and the membership starts tomorrow. I am looking forward to heading to the gym each morning before work. My family consists of me, my boyfriend, and our 5 children. Three of the children live with us full, and 2 come to see us every other weekend. So sometimes feeding this many people can present challenges of eating all the right things. Any advice or tips will be helpful!

Hi! I'm Steph, I'm 25 and in Columbia, MO. I joined this to remotivate myself to stay on track with my goals. I went through a bad break up with my ex-fiance back in February and completely fell off the wagon I was on, and gained 10 pounds in the last few months. I decided this year that was going to change and bought a weight system and treadmill with our income tax return. It was very disheartening to get on the treadmill and after a few seconds I was huffing and puffing. I don't think I even made it a minute before I got down.

I got to the point I couldn't catch my breath even when sitting. I was sleeping on the couch, because I was up and down all night going to the restroom, and I couldn't breath laying down.

I finally decided to go to the doctor (stubborn me, I hate going to the doc) and we discovered that I now have Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). She sent directly to the hospital, where I spent the next 4 days flushing fluids. I lost over 20 lbs in water weight.

That was almost 1 month ago. My last cigarette was on April 4, 2013 (the day I went to the hospital). My sister sent me the spark page link and nudged me into joining. And here I am.

Hi to all,

Hello Everyone! My name is Cynthia....I live in Columbia. I just started a weight loss challenge between my sister, my best friend and myself. I hope to shed 100 lbs. It's going to be hard but with the support of my family and Husband it's do able. Our goal is to expand our family once I get to a healthy weight. Wonderful thing to look forward to :)

Hello! I live in Oak Grove MO and have been here about 11 years. I've started SparkPeople because I don't want to lose anymore muscle mass, want to lose about 13 lbs. and desire to be more healthy. I hear ya. I totally changed the way I shop. I stock up on sales. I utilize my freezers. Use up produce and fruit now whereas before it was my motherly duty to buy it, but then hardly cooked at home so it got trashed. I have also found that I hardly ever go into the middle of the store. My store just moved to a new building and is all changed around, so if I do need something, I may never find it! ha.

I have also found a nice little Dutch Market store, run by Mennonites, out in the boonies. Great prices, great produce. I am finding now, that my grocery bill has actually reduced.

But I know you can do this. I have never been in the mind set of "dieting". This is just the way it is. The junk is gone. Fast food is gone. Soda and sweet tea are gone - at least from my day to day life. I just dont keep it in the house. Now that is not to say that we don't eat out once in awhile, or have birthday parties etc, but I try to keep that stuff to a minimum. If I go over on calories one day, then the next day I try to rein it back in. More salads, more veggies, etc. It all averages itself out.

Anyways......... glad you are here!
