Hi there, I just started this thread about a month ago and no-one replied to it! So I am assuming it is not active which is a pity.

Is this thread still active? I just ordered a trampoline having never used one for excercise and I cannot wait until it arrives. I am hoping people still post to this thread so that I can get good tips once i start using it! I joined SparkPeople a LONG time ago, but have not been active for several years and desperately need to get back into exercising. My biggest problem is my knees and I am hoping the trampoline will make it easier and less painful to do cardio.

I'm just starting, any suggestions for a not too vigorous routine, or any suggestions in general? I'm 61 and in relatively good shape, except that that shape is a little rounder than I would like it to be... emoticon

Hi All! I've been on Weight Watchers for 3 months and I just joined Spark People today as another forum to read and learn about nutrition, fitness, etc. I take an Urban Rebounding class at my gym in NYC and I'm completely addicted! I've never tried the videos before, but the class is such a great workout and I love it! It's only offered once/week so I also run 3 days/week and take a dance class or do a Turbo Jam video at home for a total of 5 days/week. It's exciting that people are doing this all over the country! Does anyone else here take a class or do most of you do it at home?

Hi, I am in my 4th day on SP, and I am glad that I found this group. I bought my mini-trampoline last Fall, and it has spent the most part of the last year in what I call the "EXCUSES" mode--that is on its side, not getting one bounce out of it for months on end.

I've been sparked though, and I am HAPPY to say that I enjoy rebounding and here I am!!! I am currently training to walk in the Flying Pig 1/2 Marathon in May 2009, and rebounding is a great low-impact way to x-train!! YAY. It is easy on the joints, and you can switch it up a bit and do any type of dance on it, or carefully step on to it and back down again.

I'm glad to have it in my arsenal of tools and I can't wait to cross that 13.1 mile 1/2 marathon finish line!

Happy rebounding!

Hello. I was just reading through this thread and noticed the last post was on my birthday, birthday # 52. I live in southwestern Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron. I have had a rebounder for a couple of years, and enjoy it very much. I bought the rebounder to help move lymph fluids through my body and it works great for that. I haven't noticed any weight loss, I really don't sweat when rebounding, maybe I am not doing enough. All I know is it is fun! I just put on a cd and dance. I did experience some discomfort in my calves and feet but not so much now. I would just get off of it and walk around the house til the pain (not really pain, more discomfort) subsided and then get back on. Eventually, actually a short time later, my calves and feet were able to take the bouncing. Hope I haven't come across this thread too late, would love to converse with some other bouncers.

Hello, everyone!

I have a ton of weight to lose, and have just started using the old rebounder that my parents bought way back in the late '70s when they were "big" the first time.

I'm starting slow--at this point, I can't even jump for longer than 2 minutes without getting totally winded! But I'm going to keep trying, and I look forward to getting to know you all as we bounce our way into good health!

I'm Tracey, been a spark-ette for a couple weeks now and just looked today for some folks who have mini-tramps. I used one in college and was a fun way for me to get into shape. I loved listening to old cd's and exercising to the beat. So now that I'm older and have some weight to lose, I'm thinking of uncovering it and getting back on. Looking forward to getting to know you, Tracey

Hello Everyone,

I'm Sherry. I've had the "Urban Rebounder" as seen on the infomercial for over a year now. I was doing it pretty regularly and then I just let myself get out of the habit. I was glad to see that there is a rebounder team here at SP. I plan on getting back into it now that I have made the commitment once more to step up my exercise. The only problem that I have had with the rebounder is that I find that it literally kills my feet. It takes everything in me to keep going for 30 minutes. I'm hoping that that will eventually go away. Has anyone else experienced that problem? Also, how do you track rebounding on the fitness tracker?

Hello everyone. I'm Jean, and I've been on SP for a few months now. I used to use the mini-tramp and walking as my main exercises, but now I've branched out to belly dancing and walking fast, sometimes jogging, on the treadmill at my college's gym.

I don't simply jump on the tramp; I usually mix it up with jogging too. I do cardio for 60 minutes a day. Then weight training three times a week.

Hello Ladies.

Those Shoes do sound like a lot of fun. As far as calorie counting goes I just use the one here even though it is not very accurate as compared to bigger weights. Eventually I hope to get a decent heart rate monitor and see about doing it that way.

I do not rebound so much for the calorie burn as I do for just the way it makes me feel. I have more energy and just overall feel better even after a small 3 to 4 minute bounce.

Thanks for the info on the calories burned. I'd been using "trampoline jumping" to record rebounding in my exercise tracker. According to SP 30 min of tramp. jumping burns about 200 cals but using your calculation I would burn 330 cals. Knowing how I feel after rebounding and comparing that to the calories I burn during other activities it seems like your calculation is more accurate.

I checked out the kangoojumps website. You're absolutely right, they do look pretty ridiculous but also look like they'd be loads of fun!

As far as calories burned, I got this off another thread about rebounding:
"
SP doesn't have a calculation for rebounding, but there is a commonly used one online (though some people think you don't burn quite so much):

calories burned=your weight x minutes spent rebounding x .0643 (or just use a heart rate monitor with calorie calculator for more accuracy.)
"

But as much as I've read, it seems that you still burn after you stop rebounding. So I'm not too terribly worried about it. I did feel like a 10 minute walk afterward that I used for cool down today after 10 minutes of rebounding.

The kanga shoes...LOL.. I got it wrong.. it's kangoo jumps.. they don't look like a gimmick, but you would sure get some looks out in public. They look like lots of fun.

Welcome to the team Alice. I know what you mean about finding the calories burned frustrating. I feel like I work my butt off when rebounding but according to SP, the calories I burn are far less than some of the other activities I do. But I will say I find rebounding to be one of the most fun workouts I do. It's a great way to mix up your routine.

"Kanga shoes"??? I'd like to see what those look and feel like. Kinda sounds like a gimmick to sell overpriced athletic shoes but I can also see myself trying them. I'm such a sucker for infomercials. Glad you were able to find some videos.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I found some interesting videos on youtube as well as on the web. I also found "33 reasons to rebound" AND some neat looking "kanga shoes" that rebound as you jog... I think I'll stick with the mini trampoline :)

Hello there!

As you've probably guessed, my name is Alice. I'm 43 years old, and I recently lost 15 pounds using diet and a stationary bicycle as my primary form of exercise. I'd like to take off about five more pounds, but I seem to have plateaued - big time - and I wanted to incorporate some strength training into my fitness routine. Due to a shoulder injury, working my upper body is kind of problematic, so I started researching other forms of exercise, and found several articles about rebounding.

I love the fact that it combines cardio and strength training, but I do find it sort of frustrating that I can't seem to find any reliable measure of calories burned while rebounding. I know it's all dependent on weight, but some sites say you can burn as much as 330 calories an hour, while others, including SP, cite much lower figures of under 200 per hour.

Unfortunately, I've had some pretty serious issues with stiffness and soreness in my upper body, but I think I'll keep at it for a few more weeks and see what happens.

Hi! So glad there is a rebounding team. I would love to be a part of your team.

I'm 52 and was a steady member of Sparkpeople since earlier this year. I lost 25 pounds while staying in my calorie limit and swimming in the backyard pool. I was real proud of myself by working up to 30 - 45 minutes 4-5 times a week.

Well, September came and cooler weather and I thought I would be fine walking... didn't happen. I have walked about 5 or 6 times (a mile and a half) and have done a few aerobics in front of the computer. I didn't stick with that either. I started gaining weight... was too embarrassed to go to my 50+ team and basically lost the spark --not to mention eating all the good comfort foods the fall has to bring. I gained 10 of my 25 lbs back and at least 5-6 inches.

So today I came home with a mini trampoline. I have been researching exercise equipment on the internet all summer because I knew the pool would close eventually. Anyway, the benefits are promising.

Its the holidays and my main goal right now is to not gain any more weight during them. Then I want to lose 20 pounds.. but will be happy with 15.

I started with a 10 minute jumping and jogging session today and hope I didn't overdo it.

Oh, and I tend to ramble...lol...

I have to agree about the improvement in circulation. I also find that it gives me a bit more energy throughout the day when I rebound even if it is only a couple minutes at a time.

I find that rebouding help my circulation. My feet used to be like ice cubes all the time and since I started they've been much warmer. Also, I have a little psoriasis and I suspect it's helped a little for that because it's also been better. Of course, improving my fitness overall probably helps these things too.

Thanks all!!! I started out my day with 6 minutes on the "bouncer" as my granddaughter has been known to say. I hope to put in another 6 when I get home this evening. My husbands feet were normal this morning. He also went to bed with less puffy feet last night. He is greatly encouraged!!!

Hi! I just got a rebounder and am still learning the ropes of it. We got it to help my husbands condition mostly. He is limited in movement, he has an electric wheelchair and also can use Canadian Crutches. He is very excited about the increase in circulation when he uses it for just 5 minute segments of time. He can't wait until he can work up to longer segments. I am enjoying it also looking forward to some good and sweaty workouts. emoticon

welcome to the team! A rebounding workout can definitely make you sweat! At least it does for me even though I'm under the a-c . I like the rebounder better than most other things but jogging, walking and biking rate pretty darned close.

UPDATE: I will be moving in the morning and I apologize beforehand if I am away longer than I expect. My phone company says it could take between the 9th and the 23rd before I get internet up and running again. I will, however, try and get to the local library there at least a few times a week to check in and report. If one of you is willing to put in the question of the day until I am back for good, let me know! or daily motivation!

Hello,
my parents just got a rebound today. They are letting me use it, so I started looking for a team that would help keep me motivated and hopping up to the challenge everyday!
I did a small workout on it today, and I feel like I'm still sweating from it..could be the humdity though, but still, I know the workout was what started it, and I love it when that happens because I normally have a hard time sweating.
Anyways, I am really thankful that there is a team for this, it will make it much easier to keep up with my commitment.

Staying Strong for the journey long!

HI,
I'm SterlingSivlr. I have a mini-tramp and I have been very successful with gaining fitness and losing weight by tramping in the past (about 6 years ago). I am hoping to do it again. Looking for some rebounding chit chat and tips. Hello all 7 of you on this team!

I am new to this team as I just ordered myself a rebounder from ebay it should be here in about a week or so I think it will be fun and add a little more variety to my workouts. I get bored easily so I need variety. Will check back in when I get my rebounder.

Welcome to our lovely little team. We are so happy to have you with it. Congratulations on returning to Spark. It was a good move. I've been on my trampoline for a couple of months but have no set workout. I just move my booty to the music, hehe. It seems to work.
As I tell the others, just jump right in and hopefully enjoy.

Welcome 'back', Jenlya! We're a tiny team, but we're driven!
I got my mini-trampoline from WalMart and someone on SP told me that I could find some 'moves' on YouTube. I found a video, albiet brief, on a regular altavista search, and they were basically 'stepping high'. THAT works the ABS for SURE!!!!! I haven't done the rebounder since last Friday, I've been working on my HIIT the past couple of days. But what I've been doing on the rebounder was the high stepping, then stepping wide, I guess it's the 'boxers' step. I dunnooooo! But, ANYTHING is good! I can't jump with both feet as this old bladder just WON'T let me! I did get up to actually jogging again last night during the HIIT WITHOUT an accident! WOO HOO!
Anyway, NICE to have you here!
Oh, while on the rebounder I 'edjumicated' myself with the Discovery Channel. Their segments are 5 minutes long, so I'd work out during the segment, then break away during the commercial breaks. I don't know how ANYone can stay on that thing constantly for 30 minutes!

Hey everyone! I just joined your team! I was really excited to see a bounding team on here... yeee haaw! My name is Jennifer, you can call me Jen if you want. I have 6 kids and am just anxious to get this weight off. I was on Spark before and did really well and then it seemed like one day I woke up and decided I was going back to my old lifestyle. lol... great decision that was! NOT! Now I'm back and 20 lbs back on. Oh well... it ain't the end of the world, but I can make it seem like it is... haha. As for the rebounding jazz... I had watched the "Urban Rebounding" informercials for about a year now and wanted one really bad. I went on Craigslist and got one for $25!!! And.. it came with a DVD. It is awesome. If you guys have any questions, let me know. Anyway, I've been doing it since last Thursday. I thought I was going to be really sore in my legs and stuff, but ended up being super sore in my rib and pelvic muscles... so I think it really works those abs. You guys all seem really nice and I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I'll stop rambling... see you guys around!

Welcome to the team, MRSHONEYC!! Great to have you with us. I think the best advice I could give would just take things slow and if you enjoy music use that when you workout on your rebounder.

All I do is let the music guide me. I found a lot of really good moves just dancing around on mine. Just do what feels natural. I could never find any decent workouts when I searched online so had to improvise. It sure does work those thighs and I'm a big gal 300+ so my entire legs take the work.

When I started I could only do a minute or so at a time so I put it in plain sight where I would have to walk by it a lot. In my case it was in the kitchen...sadly I do find myself in there a lot and so as I passed by I would ask myself if I felt like a bounce or two. This worked because for 1 I was eating a lot less because I forgot all about what I went into the kitchen to get by the time I was done bouncing and two my energy level just seemed to sky rocket when I bounced a minute several times a day.

I hope some part of this can help and feel free to just jump right in..no pun intended..and post about whatever interests you.

Welcome to the team MrsHoneyC. I just bought a trampoline this week and am not really sure what to do with it either. Right now I've just been jumping up and down on it. I'm sure we'll all be able to figure it out together though...and PaleOrchid seems to know what she's doing so I'm sure she'll have some suggestions. So far I'm really glad I bought it. I had been doing step aerobics but never felt like I had enough room. The trampoline has been nice because you don't need a lot of space and I don't need a DVD to workout. I have a 4 year old daughter who thinks the trampoline is great too. It was really nice tonight because we "worked out" together. We took turns jumping and when she was jumping I'd try to do a few minutes on the elliptical or just march in place. It was something fun for us to do together and I still got my cardio in!

So I guess I'll have to tell you about the bargains I got this week. I bought an elliptical machine from the thrift store for $5. The electronics didn't work but I figured for that price it didn't really matter. That's where I also got the trampoline...I got that for $5 too. Out of the two of them I like the trampoline a lot better. I can only do the elliptical for about a minute at a time. I'm not sure if I'll keep it but I figure since I only paid $5 it doesn't really matter. They also had a rowing machine for $15. It was pretty nice and everything worked on it. Tomorrow everything will be 1/2 off so I'm almost tempted to buy it. I guess I just have a hard time passing up a good deal. And if I decided I didn't like it I could always sell it in a garage sale and get my money back right?

Hi there. I've been on SP since 7-31-07. My cardio has been 42 - 52 minute walks every night (15 minutes per mile) I bought a mini-trampoline last night (mostly because another SP member had mentioned it) I tried it out tonight. I 'bounded' 5 sets, only 1-1/2 minutes to 2.53 minutes each time, but WOW! That thing really gets you in the thigh, huh?
I don't really know what to do on it. I tried doing a websearch for 'rebounding' and found ONE video on a class. Looked like they were just stepping high, so that's what I did.
So, looking forward to this team expanding!

I sure hope it will take off. I know there are more of us out there somewhere! Glad to have you here, certainly. I think the most important thing to worry about with a rebounder is to not overdo it. Stop if you feel the least bit tired or ankles/legs are feeling sore or weak. I made that mistake when I first started and just about got my heart rate to a dangerous level without even realizing it. This of course was mostly because I am a very sizeable girl and not at all fit when I started either. So I started out a couple minutes here and there throughout the day and moved on from there. Now it is easy as cake and I still get a very good workout.

If you were already doing the Stepping stuff I really doubt you have a problem there but I felt like I would throw that advice out there anyway.

Thanks again for joining!

Hi Tonya! I'm Katie. I'm from Indiana and have a wonderful husband and a beautiful 4 year old daughter. My husband is a full-time nursing student and I'm an accountant for a small family-owned chain of convenience stores.

I just bought a trampoline today so I really have no idea what to do with it besides bounce on it. I'm excited to start using it. My main cardio has been step aerobics. I enjoy stepping but we live in an old house so I always feel like I'm going to fall through the floor. The trampoline seems to be a better fit for my house! I have a jump rope DVD so I think I might start by trying to do some of the moves from that (minus the jump rope of course!). Hopefully this team will take off and we'll get more people besides just the two of us.

I'll start. My name is Tonya. I live in Southwest Alabama and am for at least at the moment a stay at home mom of 3 beautiful daughters and one silly little son. I started this group because I've found it difficult to find people interested in rebounding. I love it, myself and believe in the benefits. I've lost 15 pounds since using a rebounder as my main source of exercise and still counting. So come on in and introduce yourself and lets see what we can get done together.
