Not new to PCOS, I got my diagnosis 11 years ago, and not to sparkpeople (joined in early 2006) but new to this group.
In the past few years I've worked very hard to get my PCOS under control. In 2004 I started taking Metformin XR, and did not have an easy time staying on it with the side effects. In 2005 I decided to seriously lose weight, so I started working out and eating low GI-style. In 2006 I found a dermatologist who was committed to getting me through laser hair removal to get rid of the beard.
Now, after 3 years on metformin and 2 years of weight loss I'm about 100 pounds lighter and the symptoms of my PCOS are for the most part under control. It is a great feeling! =)
