hello elyse i too am happy to have found this group i no longer feel alone!!! whitch is great... the doc did not take me seriosly when i was 16 and she eaven admitted it then i could not afford to go but now i found an awsome doc who is so fricken awsom!!! i just wish they would have done something when i was younger... everyone wanted me on birthcontrol when i was 16 if i would have done it it would not have goten bad & i would not have gained 150+ lbs...

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I've had the symptoms since I was about 13 (20 years ago). After I was diagnosed last year, I did some research and found out that I have every single symptom of PCOS. Every medical issue that I have been dealing with for my entire life can be linked to PCOS. All these years, my doctors have been treating my symptoms separately. You wouldn't believe the handful of pills I take every night. I asked to be referred to an endocrinologist, but was kind of disappointed. She put me on the pill and sent me away. She said I need to lose weight.
It's frustrating because the PCOS is fighting against me as I'm trying to lose weight. I am so glad that you ladies are here to talk to...

Welcome Elyse! I'm so glad you were diagnosed, byt you might want to go to an Endocrinologist to see if there is anything else he can help you do about your symptoms. Very few doctors are really very well informed about PCOS and the issues that come along with it. You might also want to get your thyroid levels checked (many women with PCOS have issues with their thyroids) and have your blood glucose levels checked since insulin resistance might be the culprit behind your weight issues!

I know there are lot of women with a lot of knowledge about PCOS here! I've been dealing with it since I was diagnosed in 2000.

Hello Everyone,
I'm Elyse. I have been showing signs of PCOS since I was 16 or earlier. Signs like facial hair growth, weight problems, and irregular periods. The DRs did tests but never found anything until last year. I started doing research about PCOS on my own, because the DR just put me on the pill and sent me on my way. I never realized that so many women have this condition and I hadn't even heard of PCOS until I found out that I had it. Strangely enough, I kind of was happy to hear that I had PCOS because it made the problems I was having have a reason. It is good to know that there is a strong community out there of women like me and to also know that now I have the knowledge and tools to get PCOS under control.

I look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully lending some support to other members.
