My name is Tara. I never had a problem with my weight....
I am 5'8" and in HS and college I wore a size 12 or 14 and thought that was fat!
On my wedding day I wore a 16 and weighed 186. Prior to getting pregnant with our first daughter I lost 20 pounds and weighed 200. Then all that is PCOS broke loose. I gained 2 dress sizes in one summer. Prior to getting pregnant with our second child I was put on met and synthroid and dropped 30 pounds to weigh 230. I have since gained that back. I am now back n met and synthroid and BC. Hopefully this time everything will work out and I can reach my goal. Agian. I would love to return to those size 12 daisy duke shorts I still have from college but I don't think my hips will ever return to that size again - not after two kids. LOL. I will take my 200 pound weight again and be happy !! Heck today I would take finally getting below 250 again!!!!

See you all around! Ad hey you know what I got my two little girls completely on our own - well with a little help from met!!!

Tara

Hi I'm Claire, i'm 28 and I was diagnosed about 4 years ago. Since I weighed 138 lbs at the time, the doctors only put me on BC and told me not to 'let myself go.' I do find it very hard to lose weight, but not impossible. Mostly I deal with PCOS by pretending I don't have it and not letting it affect my daily life. However, it is nice to have people to share difficulties and stories with.

so hi!

Hi My name is Ashley. I am a mother to one little girl and a wife to one of the most amazing men on earth. My husband and I got married when I was 18 and he was 22. We decided when we had been married for a few months to start ttc. That was in October of 2010. I was diagnosed with PCOS in March of 2011. I have always been average size not overweight. The only thing that tipped my dr off was that I didn't have a period and I wasn't pregnant. I had my daughter back in July 2012 and my highest pregnancy weight was 155 and after having her and breastfeeding and not eating much at all for about 2 months I had dropped to 125. After having to stop breastfeeding, I have gained back all that weight. I am pretty ashamed actually because most of it came back all at once. I am glad there's actually a forum somewhere for weight loss AND PCOS. I hope to get to know some people and lose some weight! Thanks

Hi everyone. I am Amanda and I have PCOS and Hypothyroidism. I believe that PCOS makes it difficult to lose weight and not the other way around because I began getting symptoms of PCOS when I was only 10. I have a lot of weight to lose. I had a lot less to lose until I was hit with Hypothyroidism as well. It has been very difficult dealing with both of these conditions and it's hard being on a website where almost everyone else seems to lose weight easily after just a few small changes. I know a lot of you guys can relate and that's why I joined this team.

:)

Hi I'm Christie and I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple of years ago. My doctor kept me on the same birth control I was already on, which continued to keep my cycle regular.
I stopped taking the birth control in December, but my monthly cycle hasn't returned yet. Not really surprising, my cycle was never regular before the birth control.

I've always been overweight and now I question whether I am overweight because of the PCOS, or have the PCOS because I am overweight?! Or maybe it's both cause and effect.

My short term goal is to lose 10kg in the hopes that we will conceive naturally. I want to give us a year from when I stopped taking the birth control before I seek help from my doctor. I know it takes time for the body to return to 'normal', and I'm hoping that by losing weight and becoming more healthy, I'll be able to do this on my own.

I'm looking forward to learning more about the condition and how you all are dealing with it!

Hello!
My name is Bethany and I just found out recently that I have PCOS. I have always had trouble losing weight, and am currently at my highest weight ever for the second time. I am tired of being overweight and am finally taking the steps I need to live a healthier, better life!

Hi I'm Teddee.

I have to go through a few tests this coming week, but my doctor is pretty confident that I have PCOS. I am so nervous about what will happen when I go back to the doctor. I have no clue what happens after the tests come back and the treatment.

I need to lose weight for my healthy plus my doctor said it will help with the PCOS. I just want to feel good about my self again and not feel like a stranger in my own body.

:) Here's to coming out on top of this!

Hey Ladies :)

I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago, although it seems I've actually had PCOS undiagnosed and untreated for the last 15 years. I stopped taking my Metformin 1 year ago for my gall bladder removal surgery and just never was able to convince myself to keep up with it because I remembered the way I felt for the first month being on it. I am trying to take my pills again because I loved how great I felt once I adjusted to the meds and also the way my weight seemed to melt off a little easier.

It seems all I could find online about PCOS was based solely on infertility and coping with that but that's not what I'm looking for. I would like to rid myself of this PCOS so I can be without the pain, the extra hormones, the facial hair, the weight gaining, and all that *good* stuff. It will be nice to have a place to ask questions!

This time I mean it...
I will push myself hard...
I won't give up!

Screw you diabetes! You won't catch me.

I'm a 27 year old wife and stay at home mom to one. Was officially diagnosed with PCOS back in May 2011, which was around the beginnings of my husband and my TTC efforts. Was put on Clomid for 6 months... no luck. Hit rock bottom and never thought I would be a mom... then out of the blue, the same month my husband went through testing and I was waiting to have more tests done, we were blessed to find out we were expecting! I'm now battling all of those horrible PCOS symptoms once again, including being at my highest weight (almost my pre-delivery weight). Trying to get back on this weight loss wagon and feel "okay" again so I can be the best mom for my son and hopefully be healthy enough to one day give him a brother or a sister if we are blessed again. Glad to find this group, I know all too well how hard it is to lose weight with PCOS. I've been up and down many, many times over the years.

Hello Ladies!

I am a 42-year old wife and mother to twins. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 32. Between that and hypothyroidism I have really struggled with my weight. I've struggled my whole life but in the last ten years it has gotten much worse. I have 150 to lose, and I'm doing Atkins because my PCOS symptoms really disappear when I am doing low carb. In fact, I am acne-free right now for the first time since...well I can't remember!

Atkins is working great for me. I am energetic, my hunger is satisfied, and I've already lost 14 pounds!

Looking forward to getting to know some of you here in the group.

Hi everyone!

Hiya! My name is Sandy, I'm 35 year old graphic designer/nerd (and proud) from Central Florida. A few years ago, a doctor told me that they suspected that I had PCOS, but my levels were a couple of points off so they couldn't officially diagnose me on paper. So after losing my health insurance during my divorce, I want to revisit getting checked again once I have it again. In the meantime, I am trying to work off 100 lbs of weight that I don't need. Back in 2012, I had lost over 40 lbs but have gained some of that back. So I am here trying to refocus and get support on my journey. To be able to connect with those who are going through the same struggles as I am. So I am back on this site, watching my food intake and got a gym membership that I have been using..a LOT.

So nice to "meet" all of you and I look forward to getting to know all of you.

~ Sandy ~

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago. I'm 25 years old and have a beautiful 1 year old! She was conceived via IVF after 4 years TTC. I always had irregular periods but nothing horrible. Eventually one day I just stopped having periods. I went 364 days without one and was given provera to help. From there I saw an amazing RE that diagnosed my PCOS and helped me have my little girl! I've been really struggling with my weight loss for about 7 years and anxious to see what advice others on this team have!

Hello. My name is Joanna and I am 25 years old. I got a late diagnosis for PCOS. My husband and I have been married for almost 8 years now and have been TTC since the day we got married with no success. I knew there was something wrong with me, I have had problems with my menstrual since before my husband and I got married. But I had no clue what the problem was. I saw two different doctors who ran blood tests and never told me the results, they just put me on birth control pills. This past November I went to the doctor due to allergies and was talking to the doctor about the problem I was having getting pregnant and she wanted to help me figure out what was wrong with me. I finally got the diagnosis I was looking for. I had PCOS. I'm glad I found this team and others who have the same problem that I have.

Hello! My name is Sara. I am 26 years old. I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago with PCOS. Found out I have PCOS when my husband and I were TTC. We couldn't get pregnant. Finally went to the fertility doc and that is when I found out I have PCOS!
I have such a hard time losing weight. I am lucky to lost 1 pound a week.
Hoping to meet some other ladies like me. If anyone has any good tips for losing weight, I would love to hear them.
I started my weight loss journey 2 months ago and I am only down 9 pounds. I feel like I should be down a lot more than that.

HI Ameena and McGoogs, thanks for the warm welcome! I'm glad to be here, there's no support here where I live for PCOS, its a small island and no one really understands what PCOS is here - anyway, I've given it over to God to help, but I also know that I have to help myself as well.

Codi, sounds like you are on the move and you're making excellent progress, I've got to fet a handle on myself as well, this last month has been a blur, and a total blur on my regime as well. I did really well with a group challenge leading into the festive season, anyway, I'm back and there's no excuse about it!

I hope you guys are doing well! Keep up the good work!!

Hi! I'm Codi. I've had PCOS for about as long as I can remember, although I was diagnosed with it in 2007. I then ignored it for 5 years, and recently went back to the doctor to try and get a handle on my health. After a lot of tests and an MRI, we found a small tumor on my pituitary gland. I named him Mitchell. I'm recently single, and figured that now's as good of a time as any to really get a handle on my life and my health. So I've joined a local gym (I actually joined last year, but when all the medical stuff happened, I kinda let it slip by the wayside. Plus I got a new job, and excuses excuses). I hit my heaviest weight ever last year at 400 pounds on the dot, but am currently down to 368. My goal weight is 300 (give or take) by the end of the year. =)

Hi Julie!!! Welcome!!!

I hope that everyone is doing well! I'm debating whether I should try a low-carb menu for my eating....not sure what to think.

Hi, I'm Julie, I joined SPARK via a PCOS website, so I'm here because of my PCOS, and I'm so so glad I am. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1995, I'm 40 years old and I've been married for 13 years, we've been trying for a child since before our marriage. It's been a difficult time for my husband and I, more so my husband. I'm looking forward to being a part of this team.

Hi. I just joined Sparkpeople yesterday. I have had PCOS ever since I can remember and been trying to find doctors to help me with it the same length of time. It is good that there is starting to be more recognition of PCOS and groups like this for support. I am 40, single, and hoping to get better control of my life so that I feel like starting to date again. Thank you for starting this team. I look forward to being part of it. Go Team!

Hi, I'm Bridgett from Little Rock, Arkansas. I'm 30 and married to a great Air Force guy. I've never been officially diagnosed with PCOS but I have suspected that I've had it for years. I have many of the symptoms and I'm really afraid that it will make it harder for me and my hubs to get pregnant in the near future. The next trip to the gyno I'm going to talk to her to try to get some testing done. I just need to know.

Hello, I'm Amy and I was diagnosed with PCOS about 14 years ago. I am married and have been blessed with two beautiful children after 2.5 years of trying to conceive. I actually lost about 25 lbs between kids and kept the weight on. Last year I was able to lose 20 lbs, but I put most of it back on. My periods are about 3-4 months apart and the facial hair is annoying. My dr told me that losing weight can help regulate my symptoms. I hope to lose about 40 lbs to help some of the effects of this disease. I look forward to interacting with all of you.

Hi! I'm 29 years old. My husband and I have one child, he's 3. I went to see a Gynocologist on Thursday since i have been on my cycle for 20 days now. She thinks I have PCOS so we are just waiting on blood tests to come back to hopefully confirm it. I'm ready for some answers and some change. This is the heaviest I have been my entire life and it's depressing!! We are also having a hard time conceiving our 2nd child. We just had a blighted ovum in August. I'm here for support and to give support! :)

Hi yall! My name is Susan, I'm 24 and I'm from Texas. I've suspected like I've had PCOS for years now, but a doctor finally listened to my concerns and I was officially diagnosed Christmas of 2012. I actually had surgery to remove some cysts that had made their home on my out of control ovaries. Isn't the pain so much fun?

I'm so glad that I'm able to lose weight with some soul cysters. And I hope to become good friends with all!

Hello, my name is Angie. I am 30 years old and am married to a wonderful hubby who puts up with my crazy hormones, lol. We have an almost 2yr old daughter, whom we conceived with Clomid. I was diagnosed a month after we got married, then about 9 months later, was told nope, that wasn't it; this in 2011 (about two years after told I don't have it) was told again that I do (by the dr's office who told me I didn't). Apparently I had been diagnosed when I was single (saw my medical record when taking care of some insurance issues) but that doctor never bothered telling me. Anyways, I guess that's it.

I hope I did this right. Anyway I can't remember if I. Introduced myself. The holidays have been rough for me. I am 34 years old and married with no little ones. We have been trying for almost two years which I know compared to many is a drop in the bucket but still none the less heart wrenching. I have managed to gain my weight back. I need support and need to chat with people who understand. I was diagnosed with pcos about 4 years ago. This was a blessing and curse all at the same time if that makes sense to anyone. My world of struggles weight loss and irregular periods finally made sense. I was no longer lazy or she probably isn't really exercising or watching her calories. Now that all this makes sense I continue to work towards healthy life style changes and with my drs. Unfortunately does stop my pessimistic emotions from reading there ugly head. I think the thing that's been hardest for me is everyone in my life asking if we are pregnant yet. Anyway this is me and my craziness wanting to try and start the year off right looking for the support I know I need.

I am not sure if I ever introduced myself. I am 28 years old and a mother of a 4 yr old little girl. I have been married for 8 months, but together for 7 years. I am looking to get a better handle on PCOS due to increased side effects showing...(facial hair etc. UGH). I have recently started taking Vitex and Saw Palmetto to see how this works. Long story short is I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006. I took Femara after the doc told me I had a less than 1% chance of getting pregnant without full infertility assistance. After 3 months of Femara I was told I still was not ovulating and decided I was going to give up in May of 2007...I lost all hope. I September of 2007 I found out I was 9 weeks pregnant. I would like to have more kids but I am focusing on my health first then will pursue medical treatment if needed for another baby.

Welcome to the group Amanda.

I can totally understand how not having insurance can make your life harder. I would highly suggest a low carb/fat diet. And don't skimp on the strength training. Sodas and junk food are hard to quit. If you haven't visited soulcysters.net/forum.php I would. It is full of great advice and is a fairly active forum.

Hi Mariam, that's my mother's name as well. I like it.

Welcome to the group. You have come to the right place for support and advice. There are also other forums for PCOS throughout the web.

Congrats on your engagement.

My fiance and I are going to try for a baby in 2013.

Hey everyone my name is Amanda and I'm 28 yrs old. I am the mother of a beautiful 5 yr old little boy and have struggled with my weight since he was born. I have finally decided enough is enough and I want my body and my fertility back and since I don't currently have medical insurance I'm treating this the old fashioned way that my doctors in the past have recommended: diet and exercise. I lost quite a bit of weight the first part of the year in preparation for my wedding but have since gained it all back. I am hoping that losing weight and eating right will fix the problem it did the last time AF came back after about 3 months of consistent exercise and eating right. I've already cut out the sodas and junk food for the most part but I have a horrible sweet tooth that I'm still battling. I'm hoping to lose about 50 lbs before May so we can (hopefully) have a baby in the spring of 2014.

Hi I am Mariam I was officially diagnosed with PCOS Jan. 2012 although in 2008 I was told I might have it. This is my first time on spark people and I am glad that I found this group because since getting diagnosed I felt down, but I am ready to pick up the pieces because in March 2014 I am planning on getting married and hopefully I can lose weight so we can try for kids. I hope I posted correctly on the forum by clicking reply.

CindyLou, welcome. Your story really inspired me and gave me hope. I've been living w/ PCOS for years, but done little to ease the symptoms....until now. I am steadily losing weight again and getting my body healthy.

Keep up the good work, and I wish you the best.

Hey Everyone,

So This is my first shot at Sparkpeople.com. I am 31 years old and have been struggling with the rollercoaster that is PCOS since I was 17 years old. I was on Birth control back than, which of course made things regular. But than around 25 I found I was gaining weight with the pill so I got off of it, and than started a 1500mg a day dosage of Metformin which helped me to drop 30lbs all on its own and I pretty much changed nothing. I than married to the military and went off to germany after a few years and life got pretty busy and I stopped taking metformin, because I wasn't to into the care in Europe. So I decided to take my PCOS by the reigns and do it all on my own. As I knew diet was the most important thing when it comes to the condition. I lost 80lbs in 11months during my husbands 3rd deployment. 3 months after his return we were stationed back stateside and I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant! I was in such denial I swear I had been trying for so many years I peed on about 8 sticks lol.! 10 months later my little boy was born and he was a big strong healthy boy...But after pregnancy I found myself "Exactly" at the same weight I was before the 80lbs. But now that I have tried low carbing...I'm finding dizziness a huge factor. So I was hoping to go the low caloric/ low carb route so a little of both. Because in order to conceive my son. I was willing to eat meat and vegetables forever to have a baby and it happened all on its own without medication and I had started at 270 lbs. I did take chromium piccolate, prenatal vitamins and fish oil. but that was about it. But now its time to do again! I'm just confused on where to start...Because I know I need to lose tons of weight again because I'm literally 271 again! I've been working out daily and watching the carb intake...but I've started birth control and they have stalling things alot, its discouraging...but I can't give up ...:) Good luck ladies and if your trying to have a little one don't give up...Its very possible..with diet and excercise alone no meds required Its all in those crazy carbs...! if you eat carbs..let them be nutritious good ones:) and 30 minutes a day of cardio is all it takes...! My little guy is living proof :)

Hello~ I'm Sandra from Indianapolis, IN. I was diagnosed w/ PCOS around 2003, just a few short years after being married. I've struggled with infertility and weight issues, and many other symptoms that seem to rob me of my femininity. For a long time, I would hide behind these issues, feeling I was in a Catch 22 where it was almost impossible to lose weight. But I've had seasons where I've pressed through and saw results. But not until this year, in my mid 30's, have I been truly ready to make a lifelong change.

Right now, under doctor's care and also getting cardio tests and blood work done. I deal with heart palpitations, and I'm considered pre-diabetes and pre-hypertension. I joined SP in 2010 and stuck with it for about a month. Over two years, I've yo-yoed losing 20lbs., and now that I'm back I've lost 7 more in the past month. My goal is to get to at least 176 which is the top range of a healthy BMI. My current weight is 269.

I am grateful this group exists, and hope to meet with others and share in their experiences. I've learned a lot through these struggles, and I hope I can be an encouragement, too.

Well, I was diagnosed with PCOS just about two months ago now. I went because of my fiance and I were discussing the possibility of a baby, and since I have such irregular periods, I wanted to get checked out. [He's in a wheelchair, and has fertility issues related to that. So we wanted to be sure nothing else would stand in our way.] Dr said PCOS after running a gamut of tests [thank god for health insurance!]. After discussing my options, we settled on "low-carb diet," exercise and metformin, she wanted bc pills but when I told her we wanted kids, she dismissed the idea. So now I've been on metformin for two months, and the weight has just dropped off [I'm really bad with the low carb diet and exercising :(], losing 16 pounds in two months. It used to take me months and I wouldn't see a difference. Has anyone else experienced this? It seemed to level out this week, no loss, no gain. But after a 3wk period in October, I've skipped Nov, and so far nothing this month. Has anyone else's periods evened out at all?

Hi all! I was Dx'd w PCOS in the early 90's after one surprise successful pregnancy with my darling daughter followed by two years of trying to conceive another... went through several years afterwards of draconian testing and crazy medication trials and temp controls and you name it.

The weight just kept creeping up and up and up until this past summer when I reached 268 at the Dr's office in June, and my A1C crept up to 5.7, which is now considered "pre-diabetic". Fun stuff. Originally we started here on SP in October 2010, but it didn't stick. My body doesn't respond to the recommended eating plan that SP advocates. And I also couldn't exercise, since I had fibromyalgia too.

But I am SO MUCH better now. We found a Dr in my area (Seattle-ish, WA) who also has PCOS and has opened a weight-loss practice but takes regular insurance. She put me and my whole family (hubby is diabetic, daughter #1 wants to lose weight but is basically healthy, and daughter #2 has PCOS with insulin resistance) on a low-carb eating plan. It's working for us.

At this point, my PCOS is pretty seriously under control. I'm done having kids, so I had an endometrial ablation (two years ago in Feb, BEST THING I EVER DID), which basically stopped the monthly hemmorhaging. I'm not anemic anymore. The low-carb thing is helping my insulin resistance really effectively, and I'm losing weight IN MY MIDDLE!!! The only really PCOS issue I still have is the facial hair problem, but apparently I can expect that to get better soon too.

So mainly, I'm here because I have crappy days just like everyone else, and it is harder for us "cysters" to lose it than many others, and so I am looking to build some community. I've been "part" of the group for a few months, but it wasn't really active, and I wasn't having a lot of PCOS issues, so I was pretty quiet. Hopefully things will pick up with a new leader, and I'm looking forward to hearing from other people!

Note to self: Please be patient with me, God isn't finished with me yet.

Hi I am Marie. I was just diagnosed with PCOS after I got fed up with my wonky periods and some other issues that seemed to reoccur during my menstrual cycle. I am looking to lose some more weight and hopefully self manage the PCOS. I prefer to avoid the medication as I have a liver disease as well and the medication can be really hard on my liver causing me further complications. I see the doctor again next week for the rest of my tests. I have cousins that have PCOS and have given me some advice as well.

Hi everyone!

My name is Amber. I am 26 years old and have been married to my best friend for going on 8 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago and they wanted me to do was take birth control. My husband and I have been TTC for a long time and I didn't feel that was a good option for me. I have been on metformin for a little over a month now and am feeling great! My goal is to lose 70-75 lbs. I look foward to creating a support system here and making new friends :)
