I'm part of another group called Living Healthy with Insulin Resistance, which discusses the Insulin Resistance diet which is pretty much a low GI diet.
Here are the basics to any low GI diet though: 1) very few/no refined sugars, white flour. 2) Keep carbs whole grain, or veggies/fruit, and high fiber. 3) Eat protein with every carb. The IR diet calls for 15g protein for every 30g carbs, I try to stick even higher, 20-25g protein for 30g carbs, but each person is different.

Hi everyone :-) Well, I'm not completely new to SparkPeople but I've been up and down, back and forth SO much that I figured I would make a clean break, a new beginning and start from scratch.
After having some recent lab work done, I had an appointment with an endocronologis (?) today and she did say that I have PCOS. She will be sending me for more testing for insulin levels etc, but it seems my hormone test results from my last test were a PCOS match.
I have a friend who has pcos as well, and her symptoms have sounded familiar to me in the past... it wasn't a complete shock to find out what was wrong with me, but it's still weird to have it confirmed as a fact.
So now I have an ultimate motivation for losing weight...something which I was already in process of doing, but from what I've read, I should change my diet some. I'm hoping to get some ideas and good tips from you guys. I'm particularly intrigued by the glycemic impact diet, which seems to be recommended for a lot of women with PCOS, and this is new to me... I was on the Atkins diet before, but that was more black & white, this GI diet seems more complicated, so any suggestions & helpful websites are welcome :-)
