Welcome Sunset! I agree with Momnmel - it's good that you're taking control of this early. I too dealt with symptoms until I finally got a diagnosis in my late 20s. I'm 35 now.

Not only has medical research learned a great deal about PCOS since I was diagnosed 8 years ago, but awareness has spread. 8 years ago, lots of doctors hadn't even heard of it, or would only treat it as a minor fertility inconvenience. ("We'll just give you Clomid when you're ready to get pregnant.")

Fortunately, now lots of doctors understand that untreated PCOS can lead to other complications. You're in the right place for support and learning! Let me know if you need help finding your way around.

Gluten-free since 5/27/2008!

Well good for you in being proactive about your health. PCOS was a new diagnosis and I was reading an article and checked off almost every symptom. That is when I went to my OB and asked what he thought and he agreed. Even though it is more commonly diagnosed,a lot of doctors still don't quite "get it". For awhile, my OB would only treat my PCOS if I wanted to get pregnant. I pushed to have some help w/ other symptoms. Sorry for rambling. Again, welcome, looking forward to getting to know you.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I do appreciate being in the era where they were learning more about it so that I could be diagnosed faster than I know a lot of those have been. I am sorry to hear that you went so long. I will say however most of what I have learned has been very little from doctors and mostly from personal research, but I finally think I got most of it. :)

Hi and welcome to the group. What a blessing being so young and "prepared" in understanding PCOS. I dealt w/ symptoms beginning in adolescence but was not diagnosed until 30. It made so much make sense for me once I read about it and asked my OB if I could have it. Good luck to you and your goals.

Hi Everyone I am Kelly, 22 from NJ. I have been dealing with PCOS six years now. I had a rough start and still haven't fine tuned my "treatment" but I would say I know a good deal about it and welcome anyone to ask me any questions or if you just want to talk to message me anytime because if it's hard enough to shed the pounds it's even harder to do so with PCOS. :D Good Luck to everyone and May your dreams come true.
