Hi Tricia,
Sounds like you live in a great place to see lots of beautiful birds, I have to say I am a little jealous.
Currently here in Florida we are getting so much rain I'm not seeing many birds and I can't keep my feeders dry. Just cleaned them out this morning - they were a mess. If the weather is better tomorrow I will put a little food in them and hopefully the birds will eat it up before the rain comes again as expected.
Waiting for my goldfinches, and painted buntings to come back. Hoping to keep my tufted titmice as well. emoticon

Hello, I am a amateur birder from VA. I live out in the country so I get to encounter lots of wildlife. I came to love birds when I took an ornithology class as a grad student. I enjoy planting wildlife patches and setting up feeders so that I can enjoy nature's little wonders.

Taking a deep breath......

Hi, I am a bird lover from Melbourne, Florida. Just got back from my neighborhood walk and enjoyed watching two Sandhill Cranes standing just across the street - such beautiful birds. We have a pond in the subdivision as well where we get Whistling Ducks and some Mallards as well.
I also have a few feeders in the backyard. This time of year I am getting Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Mourning Doves and an occasional Cardinal.

Hi I'm Becky from Oroville, CA. I love birds and always have! My first love of birds that I can remember was the Gooney on Midway Island when I was 3 yrs old. I would sit and watch them on the beach for hours.

Now we watch and feed many birds in our yard on a daily basis that are eating us out of house and home! From the Robin Red Breast, Valley Quail, Turkeys, Rufous Sided Towhee, California Towhee, Titmouse, House Finch, and I could go on and on!

Right now the Robin has been serenading me at my kitchen window on a daily basis. It's such a beautiful song.

Hi I'm Bonnie, and I love birds. I don't know a lot of names, but wish I did. I live in Southern California. My husband and I go to a beautiful man made lake near us. Lake Balboa has gorgeous birds. We were in a little seaside town San Clemente last July for a wedding, and the brown seagulls fly right over your head in formation. So neat! Love to be a real "birder".

I have just discovered the joy of bird watching and have been tagging along birding with my daughter. I have had a lot of fun learning about different species. We live on the coast and have a never ending array of birds to view. I want to be able to keep up on the birding walks (maybe not be hard hikes, but it's a LONG time to be on your feet!) so I am working at being healthier.

Hello Team members.
I just found this team today after the reference from another team posting.
I love the outdoors and bird watching both from my arm chair and while I am out side. I Even received a pair of binoculars for Christmas so I can be more active in my pursuit.
Some times I feel so lost moving from Ontario to the west coast as their are so many new birds to identify.
I blog much - I like hiking and Geo caching ---
You can take a look at my Spark page - I have pictures
I am looking forward to being involved in this Team as Birding is close to my heart...

Hi! I'm new to Sparkpeople but not new to dieting. I love birds, flowers, nature in general but I REALLY love birds. I'm trying to get a jumpstart on the new year and work on my nutrition and exericse BEFORE the holidays.

Hope to make some friends here!

Hi everyone! I've been a Spark Person for a year now, but just found this team today. I live in the Appalachian mountains in SW VA, which is a great place for a bird lover to live. I enjoy getting outside to walk, and almost always have my binoculars with me when I do.

I am new to this forum. My favorite hobby is feeding and watching the birds around my home. I live in the southwest where there are many beautiful species of birds. When I sleep too long my "patio Pals" have been known to to peck on the windows and doors for their breakfast....yes they have me well trained. emoticon

Hello! I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I've been thinking about getting into birding and last week when I was going to Florida I decided to formally start. I got the Peterson's Guide to Eastern North America. I went to Merritt Island National Wilderness Preserve, near Cape Canaveral, and got 23 or so new bird sightings!

Hello everyone, my name is Am, I'm 32 and I live in beautiful East Tennessee, right close to the Great Smoky Mountains. I got into watching birds this past spring before I quit smoking. I always had to go outside to smoke at home and would get bored and watch the birds. Soon after, I became interested in what birds I was watching. I knew the most common, bluebirds, robins, mockingbirds (our state bird) and such. But had no knowledge of wrens, buntings and the different owls and hawks. In the past year, I've gotten pretty good at identifying the different birds, especially hawks and owls and am always excited to discover a new bird. I look forward to talking with you all and furthering my knowledge.

Hi I am Lorie, and love watching birds, and seeing eagles soar around our home in Petoskey, Mi 4 miles from town. We have a good variety. This spring had a bluebird family right out our front door in one of my bird houses. the robins though kept landing on the bird house and even tried to nest one foot above the bluebirds, We had trouble like this last year for the first time, and spent our time chasing the robins away from the bluebirds, as the robins would "rob" meal worms from the blue bird family. emoticon

Hi Everyone,
I am no expert at bird watching but I do love birds. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah and like to walk by a lake close by and see lots of birds. My favorite bird are the quails that live by my house. I love when they are in my yard. My dog does too but he wants to chase them. He is not allowed outside when they are here. I love when they have babies in the spring and walk around as a family. The babies walk so close to the parents it's cute. They are fast little runners too.

A couple of years ago a robin had her nest on my patio. I should write a blog about it and post the pictures I took.

Glad to find this team.

Debbie

Hi Birdwatchers, I'm Whee from Tennessee and I love to watch birds (including my psycho chickens). I spend time most every week surveying birds on my property and other places, and I volunteer several times a year counting birds for censuses. I look forward to bird talk with all of you.

And I often feed "my" birds (and my chickens) oatmeal--it's a good food for most all of us (bunnies like it too).

Hi my name is MaryAnn and love to watch my feathered friends. I have a question for you. I was given a 25 lb bag of oatmeal and I was wondering if this was OK to feed to the birds? There is no way we will be able to get thru this sack before the new millennium. Any ideas?

Hubby and I are grandparents who enjoy watching birds. We are Christians and love to go to Church and fellowship with other believers. It is nice to visit with other birders and lean new things. One of our Grandsons has just really begun to notice the birds and is very interested in birds in general. I love Bible study and poetry. To learn more about me visit my page. Have a great day and i look forward to meeting you all. Jenny

I never kept a life list and then I was sitting by a gentleman on a flight from Minneapolis to New Orleans and he was quite the birder. At the time I just fed them and enjoyed watching them, this guy took trips for the sole purpose of seeing different birds. He encouraged me to start a list and I did, but after a while only saw the same old birds so I stopped. I should keep my eyes peeled for the notebook and start adding to it as we have since moved to a different state and I see different birds now.

Congrats on having a year best this year!!

You are better than me! I don't really have a life list. Just make notes in the bird book. I keep a year list for our state and that is fun. Several of us compete...but mostly against ourselves. I did have a year best this year.

I need to find a birding group in my area as I need help with identifying hawks and a few other bird groups. A few years ago I started a life list but then life got in the way and I stopped recording. I should find the notebook and get back to doing it and just take the time to enjoy the world of birds.

Of course some are in the yard but the majority are in the area. I also go on bird outings with a birding group. They are the real experts and tell me what I am seeing! I am pretty good with spring warblers now and very good with water fowl but need lots of help with sandpipers, hawks and other. Horicon Marsh is a large marsh an hour away from me and I love to go there several times a year.

Welcome back and good luck with your weight loss journey. Sounds like you see a lot of birds. Are they all around your property or do you go out on bird watching tours?

Hi, I'm not new but haven't been on in quite awhile. I have slowly gained weight over the last year so time to get back to work! I live in Wisconsin near Lake Michigan. We have lots of great bird habitat and a good amount of migrating birds even tho I am not on a main flyway. Finally broke the 200 mark of birds sighted this year! Hope I can get my weight back down too!! Life birds for this year: Dicksissel, merlin, some weird comorant, and something else that I can't think of now. I am short and so is my memory!! Happy birding everyone.

Hello!
I'm live in northeast North Carolina. I absolutely love to watch the birds. Of course I spend too much on birdseed, so I am concentrating on adding plants that provide them food and shelter. Sometimes we get some migrating birds through here and that's always exciting.

Hi - I'm here in Northern Illinois. I have 2 feeders for the birds and 1 for the squirrels, also one for the humming birds that showed up in April. I love watching them and miss their singing in the winter months. I'm not good at identifying birds, but I keep going on guided walkabouts in our many forest perseveres and listen to what the experts say. My idea of a relaxing day is sitting outside and watching the birds and listen to their singing.

Hello from Arizona! I am an avid bird watcher- I have feeders right outside my windows so I can watch the little lovelies feed! I don't get many varieties, but I do get hummingbirds, Lots of Quail and doves. A Quail has laid her eggs in my Jade plant pot right outside my kitchen window and I am enjoying watching her come and go to sit on the eggs- and watch her mate when he comes to see her! I am excited to watch the babies hatch! If anyone is interested- I have a photo of the eggs on my page.

Good morning! I'm Kim from the country side of the Pittsburgh area. Saxonburg to be more specific. We live out in farm country and I love it! We have a big yard and this is my first year putting up bird feeders and suet.
I put them up in January and already have a lot of regulars including squirrels and chipmunks. I even see wild turkeys in my upper yard but they don't come down as far as the bird feeders.
I'm excited to be a part of this group. kim

the snow has stopped & we had a touch of sunshine. looks like its done for a while. i wanted to ask you guys if you ever noticed that when there's real bad weather (snowing hard, & a bad thunderstorm) that the birds go into an eating frenzy?
they do at my two houses. i dont have 2 at one time.
also, my favorite bird is the pileated woodpecker. at my other place i had them all the time, sometimes 2 at my feeder at a time. i lived in a very wooded area, they came alot. you could also hear them & knew they were coming around.
thanks for listening.

Hi all,

I love to watch my backyard birds, have several feeding trays for them. The squirrels love them too!:-( Saw a beautiful small gray brown bird today with a black head and white on the neck. I live in the PNW. Also had a little brown hummingbird living above my front porch this summer. Have not seen it recently though, don't know if they migrate in winter (?).

Hi All, I am Jody and I love birds. I live in the country so we have a large variety. My favorites are the bluebirds. I usually have four or five successful nests a year, but this year only one. And, to make matters worse, all of my bluebirds disappeared during the horrible heat wave we had. Don't know if they died or flew north. Anyone else have this problem? emoticon

Hi, I'm from Toronto and I'm just crazy about ducks. I collect all things duck, I photograph ducks, and I think I can even understand some duck language. Catch my ducks on flickr, and contact me if you're nuts about ducks too!!!

I rarely see Robins anymore, but this year my neighborhood is swarming with Cardinals. I think that is all that is nesting here. It is so odd!

Hi - I'm from Michigan - am currently enjoying th robin nesting in the weeping cherry tree outside our dining room window. I've always loved avian excitements and watch for birds where ever I go.

I live east of Dallas and have loved birds since I was a little girl living in a small east TX town. When I wake up hearing birds sing in the morning I know it is going to be a great day.

My hubby and I use to do alot of hiking before I got sick. I don't get to see too many birds unless they come into my backyard now. I love bird calls. My M-I-L got me into bird watching.

I have been on SP for awhile but just found this group.
I'm glad to find you guys.

Hi Everyone

My name is Elizabeth and I live in North Alabama. I am blessed to live on a family farm that has an abundance of birds. We have:
• Piliated Woodpeckers that returned this year to raise their babies.
• Indigo Buntings
• Various varieties of finches
• Beautiful owls and hawks
• You name it we’ve got it

It is always interesting to see what will come to live or just pass through season to season.

About 2 months ago, my husband found an abandoned bird nest with the most adorable baby bird. She was only a few days old. We named her Peep and fell in love with her. We spoke with various Wildlife Reserves and Vets who gave us any and all knowledge of what to do for her. Peep turned out to be a Carolina Wren, and sadly passed away after we had her for 2 weeks. My husband and son buried her under an apple tree so she could forever have a shaded place to perch and listen to the birds sing.

My love for birds came from my Mother who has given me an appreciation and love for birds. Birds and blooms is a fabulous publication. My mom and I share my subscription and truly love it.

I look forward to being a part of this group. emoticon
