Hi Bug - I am starting to understand that! I may do that for my DD tomorrow...

Mary

PS To my old SP friends - It's been a very rough journey... My beloved, healthy, athletic, tall, dark and handsome husband died in August 2012 from a very aggressive cancer... In the many months caring for him I was stressed and didn't "care" anymore, and put back on 30 pounds I had just finished losing... And then I gained even more...

The whey protein can REALLY help. Let us know how it goes.

I live in Japan where good oatmeal is hard to come by. I ordered some tasty whey protein shakes from Dr. Mercola. which have 160 calories each and I find I can eat a good portion of vegetables and even one piece of fruit so I will be okay. Thanks for sharing.

If you are doing only one meal - then an omelet plus some fruit is very nice.

Sorry about the goiter. It is good to know there are others with thyroid problems that are succeeding. You mentioned one meal on your DD days. I just did that yesterday. I am now using Whey Protein but the calories are higher and I and I miss the variety of protein foods. Do you have any suggestions for the DD days?

yes - you are quite right about the soy protein. It gave me a goiter - but I am fine now, also.

I think it is good to have a real plan in the beginning, such as how you mapped out your DDs. This helps us to set new habits.

I am now on week 3 of my own re-entry. I sometimes have one meal on DD's and fast the rest of the day.

I did the UDDD diet last year and lost 48 pounds. I started out using the Medifast protein foods on the down days. After I lost the first 22 pounds I just ate a healthy "negative calorie" diet without counting calories on down days and continued to lose. I found the key to be three things. First, to remind myself that this was a long term project. I allowed myself to take breaks as needed...even up to two weeks. I had not quit...I was just taking a vacation. Second, during the first month, I planned my down days religiously, taking into consideration what worked for me personally...ie when to eat to keep myself satisfied...when and what to snack to keep me from going nuts. :) Thirdly on my down days, I just told myself "never mind..tomorrow you can eat what you like. What is one day?" This worked like a charm while my body adjusted. Eventually, healthy foods started to taste better and life I kept my weight off without the program for 6 months. I am now back on the program because my thyroid went back off balance last year and I gained 20 pounds. It is okay now, and I am already starting to drop. Looks like the soy protein I was using was a problem. This time I am using Whey protein. Any suggestions?
