It does help, thank you!

I think I will try to pay attention to my body signals and see where it gets me by the first week weigh in.

Sometimes we cannot distinguish between full and satisfied. In Dr.'s book it says to only eat until satisfied and he notes that the people in his experiment also practiced restriction. I think the balance is to eat healthy but only until satisfied, and include a small portion of something that you really like. Try to eat because you're hungry not because you like the food. I can eat a sandwich and be satisfied but want another because I like it. Not full, but satisfied..hope this helps~

I see. I think intuitive eating will be very helpful for my on my up days then. No restrictions on food, eat til I am full, be mindful of every bite, etc. I can always tweak if that doesn't work.

Thanks so much :o)

The idea is to learn to eat less but not be deprived so don't view the up day as a free for all but rather a day where you may only eat normal portions of foods you like. Our portions are way out of control at fast foods and even at home so it all depends on how fast you want to lose.. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Haha I see my mistake now. That was my maintenance calorie level and they used that to figure out the 25%.

So how do I know how many cals on my up day? Like 1500?

The higher figure on the calculator is not the amount of calories to eat, it is only used to find out the down day's calories. If you follow the plan as written, you will lose but it takes mindset to follow it closely. Dr says if you don't lose your eating too much on your down day or your up day. This plan works and you will also learn how to maintain with it. I wish you much success~

I stumbled across the Alternate Day Diet while browsing on my Kindle and read up on it online. This feels like it could be right for me.

I won't go into the details of my past failed attempts because I don't want to bring the negativity into my new mindset.

So let's see, what else can I tell y'all about?

I am 25, full time student, full time graphic designer with 65 lbs to lose. I love my family, my boyfriend, our dogs, and good books. I used to like to work out but now that my body doesn't respond the way it used to, I get discouraged easily so I am starting out slowly with fun stuff like yoga and dance.

I am doing this diet with my mom so I am excited to have her support and see her success. We are starting tomorrow because I didn't have time to get to the grocery store last night.

My plan is to use the Atkins or Slim Fast shakes on Down Days and to try my best to eat intuitively on Up Days, while being mindful of my calorie count.

According to the website, My up days are 1992 and my down days are 398, but I may round up to 500 depending on how I feel.

Any advice for a newbie?

Thanks :o)
