I love eggs too and have them for breakfast and lunch.

It IS 2 net carbs, but tastes like cardboard. I'll stick to my 5 eggs a day with 3 net carbs. A nice hot breakfast.

You still have to eat it, and to get the 550 calories I need for breakfast, I would need 5 servings, so 55 grams of fiber, and 10 net carbs. So I would have to eat a ton of cardboard, hope I don't burst from gas, and eat more carbs.

If you do eat just 1 serving..107 calories.. what do you eat with it?. That is where you might end up with a lot more carbs. I eat a cup of mushrooms, and 2 T butter with my eggs. 6 net carbs.

Anyways, it is better than most cereals based on the label. This would probably work for people near maintenance.

I don't like wheat, soy, or oatmeal.

I can't do the wheat and soy. I spend too much on supplements to have the soy blocking their uptake. I eat some steel cut oatmeal occasionally. It's the only thing of that nature "allowed" on our prescription diet.

You're right about the net carbs. You calculate that by subtracting fiber from total carbs. The sugars, naturally, stay "in"! ;-)

The ingredients sound okay to me. If you enjoy it then by all means have it. Sometimes we all have to make lifestyle choices anyway regardless if it is on our diets. I made up my mind long ago that I would eat certain things regardless of if they were on my diet or not and I told my M.D. that. It's not like I'm asking to eat Twinkies for every meal but I do have a list of foods that may be considered controversial and not that healthy like bacon. I'm having it. LOL.

You had me until the cardboard part. I do like oatmeal, and I occassionally will eat about 1/2 cup. Maybe once every two months. I guess it's not one of the things I really miss -- like potatos and certain breads.

Have you tried the flax meal hot cereal? If you like grits or cream of wheat, you might like it.

I managed to copy as much of the label as possible; I just wanted some opinions about the cereal and the contents. It frankly tastes like cardboard but there's something about the texture of hot cereal that I really like and this comes close to pretending to be oatmeal or cream of wheat or something similar to that. I do not add sweeteners although I have added a few slivered almonds.

As I write this, I guess I am thinking that I do want something like this in my life but wonder if anyone has more or better advice.

Thank you!

It's a cereal, not a bread. It must be made from something like flax or almond meal to come up with numbers like those. Maybe you can look up Sensato cereal on netrition and find out what it is.

I'm not a low-carb expert by any means but my understanding is that these stats indicate that 11 of the total 13 carbohydrates are from fiber, which is not absorbed or used by the body other than to assist with waste removal - so it's not like the fiber 'cancels out' the carbs, it's more that the total amount of carbs includes something that won't affect blood sugar - the NET CARBS are what is left and I believe that's what is counted as part of the daily carb allotment, depending on which plan you're using.

with that said, it's an interesting-sounding bread and I think I'll look it up - how does it taste??

I'm not a fan of cereal and don't eat it but some smart carb diets allow cereals under certain conditions, like South Beach. What are the ingredients? I would need to know what they are to really access it. It could be okay even on really low carb diets if it were made with almond meal or something similar. The numbers sound pretty good.

What is the content, like Raisin bran; nuts & honey; what's in it? Sounds good

I'm not familiar with this cereal, but think the nutritional facts look great. This is the highest protein count I've seen in a cereal!

I have been eating a morning cereal that has a nice serving of fiber. The stats are:

Total Carbohydrate 13.0 g

Dietary Fiber 11.0 g

Sugars 0.0 g

Protein 13.0 g

Is it true that the fiber cancels out the carbs to the extent that this cereal would be effectively two carbs or are they trying to persuade low-carbers that the ceral is actually low-carb? I like the protein and fiber content and am reluctant to give it up but I would appreciate any opinions and advice.

The brand name is Sensato, by the way and I get it via "Netrition". It all seems quite aboveboard to me. But I value the opinion of experienced low-carbers.

Thank you!
