Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Marsha from Tampa, FL. Soon to be 82 years young.
I have hit a plateau and doctor recommended that I watch my carbs. I picked this group because it is called Smart Carbing. I am new to this so please be patient. I am a pretty fast learner for my age.

Are there any books, webi-sites, etc that you can recommend.

I am a Widow since May 1, 2012. It is a different lifestype, and cooking for one is a chalange.

Talk later, visit my Spark Page to get acquainted with me.

Hi everyone,
I'm also returning to low-carbing with a passion.
I'm very insulin resistant.
I am happy seeing progress on the scale after just two weeks of eating low carb.

I hear you. Its like my Mom says, 'Carbs are a snare and a delusion.' Sheesh. I just have to stay away from bread entirely. One cracker = the whole box.

I went off low carb and my weight stalled and I gained. I have been back on low carb for about 6 weeks and I am down 13 pounds. Most importantly, that constant hunger is gone gone, gone! I don't know why I am so sensitive to carbs but I am. I can eat healthy carbs and I cannot lose and I think about food all day. I feel like I can see the way out of this. 24 Pounds to go!

Hi SallyAnne. I think fruit is fine in moderation. I love bananas but I really can't handle them everyday. I do berries, grapes, orange, pears -- but all in moderation. I'm no expert, but in my humble opinion, powdered drinks as a source for a main meal isn't enough. You need real food -- veggies, and meat. I think those drinks are a set up for failure. Isn't it shameful that if you want to eat healthy, real food you have to spend more money. If you want to eat a bag of starchy processed junk food, you can get it for a buck.

I'm giving myself a boost in morale by doing very low carb. I've been junking it up with too many potatoes and such. I need to remember what it feels like to be low carb. I love that feeling where you take a bite in a piece of fruit, and it tastes so sweet. I also like the way my body feels uncontaminated with sugar. And nothing shrinks my butt like a low carb eating. I'm on day 5. If I can hang, I may do it for 10 or 14 days.

Good luck on your journey in returning to low carb. emoticon

hi, low carb is the only thing that worked for me too.

n 2007 i lost 80 lbs in about 6 months but i also walked 3 times a day. 2 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute break at work. OH and i went to the gym and did wt training and cardio 4 or 5 times a week.

i did a low carb , totally low carb with salads and grapefruit juice no fruit or starch.

I kept it off for 2 years but now ive gained it all back , im completely sedintary. i had a breakdown in 2008 , was practically bedridden for 2 winters. Im trying now to get healthy.

i only earn 70 a week and im paying all my car expenses, medical and groceries so low carb is difficult but im going to use protien powder and almond milk. eggs. what do you guys think about eating fruits? I do find i crave fruits.

Hi everyone! My name is Gayle and I live in western NY. I just turned 62 Saturday. I have been on Atkins a couple times and it's the only diet that works for me. The first time I lost 120 lbs (about 30 years ago) and this past year (about 30 lbs)
My problem is I am lazy...I hate to cook and you can only eat the same things for so long and it gets boring.
So....time to get on the stick! I bought new bakeware and received new pans for Christmas so it's time to start my new lifestyle!

Thank you for the encouraging words!! It's so wonderful to find a group here that understands what it's like to be so carb sensitive.

Low fat diets just don't work for those of us who are carb sensitive. Congrats on the weight loss.

Hi I'm back to reducing my carbs after playing around with other plans... introducing "healthy whole grains" caused me a big spike in blood sugar... I am on day 6 with no grain... and making this up as I go along from info I know like the back of my hand!! I'm glad to find this forum. The sparkpeople food tracker is still on a low-fat high carb sort of lifestyle... oh well. I was on a wellness program at work and we tracked our food for 8 weeks, did cardio exercise and added "healthy whole grains" into our diets... now I'm doing this my way, and have lost about 5 lbs. but that scale may be wrong. I weigh in at work on yet another wellness program, on January 18.

Hello everyone! I lost 50 pounds a few years ago, have gone back and forth in the same 20 pound fluctuation since, and went completely crazy through the last 6 months, resulting in the need to lose 35 pounds to get back to my "happy weight"! I look forward to getting and giving inspiration here!!

BACK TO STAY...

Hi,
I'm Vicki and I have 65 lbs to lose. Back in the 80's I lost 105 lbs and kept it off for over 18 years. It wasn't until I took on my husbands eating habits that I gained back all I'd lost plus more. So starting Jan. 1-2013 I'll be going back on a very low carb way of eating, to get back a more healthy body, and have a lot more energy.
