So true. There is always some challenge looming in the future and we all have to face them. The key is to learn to roll with the punches and have the attitude that this too shall pass.

Thanks for the great replies! I try everyday to tell myself no matter how stressful the day making my health worse wont help.

It seems like some months there is no easy life, stuff happens on top of each other and just when you think you are taking a deep breath from the last thing bam a new one hits.

A few days ago I woke up and thought what a beautiful day....then my boss lowered my hours at work and neighbor had pump problems with our shared well which sent us dirty water as they worked on her problem.

I felt overwhelmed that day....now a few days later I am happy to have the time off to go to the movies and grateful our pump is fine. Time does help you find perspective.

Pollyredbird: Your letter could have been written by me. I am back in my cycle of stress, not liking myself, and eating again, and hating myself, not feeling good about myself, and not loving myself at all. I have some family things going on right now, and use that an excuse to eat, but seriously, this is life. Life is always going to be stressful, and I really don't want to gain this weight back. I hope that this site can encourage me to stick to what I know will work. I have lost before, and am gaining it back. Thanks for your note - I do not have diabetes at this point, but could always end up there if i keep eating. There is candy and sweets everywhere, and I just love eating. It helps to read how others are doing, so i hope to keep up with this tean and get back on low carbs. I'm new at this posting, so hope I can get the knack of it.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you stop caring about your health when you feel overwhelmed. I went that route too. Now, every day, I try to improve my relationship with myself. Now, I know if I don't have a loving, caring, respectful relationship with myself, I can't expect to have one with any one else, even the people I say I love. It is hard to take myself gently in hand and talk to myself about taking better care of myself, of wanting to be healthier and feel alive again. Last week my doc diagnosed me with Type II Diabetes. Now that I know I have entered the last gate, I'm doing the best I can to get back to the other side of diabetes. Love yourself, feel compassionate for yourself, be kind and gentle with yourself now, make a safe, secure, and peaceful place in your world for yourself. For now, taking care of yourself helps others you love consider taking care of themselves too. A gift of love.

Getting better and better

Hi, doctor just told me I am pre diabetic. I know what its from. The comfort food meals of pasta and bread and wine when I was stressed the last few months.

Was nervous about seeing husbands ex at wedding in Oct, first I lost weight then end of Aug to wedding I stuffed myself out of nerves and gained ten pounds back!

Then my husband had one of his depression episodes which turned into a marriage issue and next thing I know my diet is all out of wack!

Enter blood tests done mid Nov and results. Last year my test said 104 and this time 111 so she wants me to change my diet.

Hard even on a good day not to eat sweets, bread and wine but when stressed I find I am too upset to care!

I was doing great after she told me until this last weekend when my mom came. She has a way of pushing all my buttons. She leaves today and I need to get on top of this before we go away for xmas to my daughters.
