I can't eat wheat but I do like to get in fiber from veggies and fruits.

Hello! I guess these would not work for you as the Indian Millets are not available in your part of the country and you might the nutty flavor of some hard to tolerate. Most Indian shops carry them however. Durum wheat is also good and Italian Pasta is made of Durum wheat. But one cannot live on pasta.

But dietitians may be able to suggest alternatives. (Semolina flour for one).

Exercise of slow twitch muscles reduce insulin resistance. Walking and Yoga helps in this.'
Since I started yoga late, at 57, the master taught me simple movements. The difference in my personality is amazing. I stand more erect, am more balanced. I feel great.

Reduced calorie intake is another need and the things I eat now have lots of fiber and also digest more slowly and naturally my tendency to snack all the time has reduced.

I hope this helps

Regards
Susan

emoticon glad you found something that has worked well for you. It makes sense that exchanging out processed and/or higher glycemic grains (and foods in general) is going to help stabilize blood sugars and help with weight.

Hi,
I am Susan, 57, from India. I have been a diabetic for about 9 years and have never been able to control it properly. But about 3 months back, a local tribal doctor gave me some cues and I have changed my diet. I eat Indian millets for breakfast (finger millet) and lunch (little millet) and use long grain wheat (soochi Gothambu) for dinner. Results,my Blood sugar levels have fallen, I have increased energy, no mood swings and have lost weight- though now it is stable at 55 KG. I am 5 ft 2.5 inches tall.

I walk for 30 minutes bare foot on the terrace in the evening and do yoga for 30 minutes in the morning. I find that the mental body massage during the 'Shavasana' relaxes me so much that I am reluctant to get up.

I also do anulom vilom, breathing through alternate nostrils and I have started meditation.

Soochi Wheat is similar to Durum wheat.

Replacing rice, processed flour, breads and potato with millet, durum wheat etc to satisfy craving for carbs do help.

I eat fruit with my lunch because my BS is lowest in the afternoon. Ayurveda says that this is the time when digestion works best. Sometimes, I have one teaspoon of ice cream with a tablespoon of chopped fruit as dessert at lunch time. I avoid fruits and sweet things and rice etc at night and have either soochi wheat, oats or little millet and if this is not possible, chapathi of ordinary whole wheat flour.

This does help
Regards
Susan
