I think we can all relate, GF. Carbs are problematic for many of us. Too many bad ones out there and many are very tempting. I have to choose good ones and space them out.

-American consumers have no problem with carcinogens, but they will not purchase any product, including floor wax, that has fat in it. - Dave Barry
-My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four; unless there are three other people. - Orson Welles
-The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small. - Woody Allen

Hi Sparkies! I do fairly well (two steps forward; one step back) until I start getting too many carbs into my diet! I am diabetic so they are not my best friend in the first place! For me one carb leads to another so.....here I am! I have lost 50# so far but there is another 50 waiting for me! Have to get this done and get on a maintence program! Good wishes to everyone!

We are here to help anytime. With a A1C that high my suggestion is that you try a plan with an initial phase of detox like induction, phase one, wave one. It gets the carbs low for a while and helps set you up for future success.

I have selected the right group! There are some program you mention that I have not heard of before so I will be spending time learning about them to see which one will work best. I appreciate you guys. I am breathing easier now after a few crying sessions after finding out my A1C was 8.2 - I feel like you have come at the right time with suggestions and motivation. I will be studying and finding ways to eat healthy and will be asking some questions, soon. Thank you for being available to lend me your ideas and opinions of what worked for you. It will be a great journey...I am loving this...thanks. emoticon ...really Thanks Everybody for coming to my rescue.

Welcome to the team. Unless your M.D. has suggested a smart carb diet my advice is to look at the food lists of a few plans by googling lower carb diets and decide how low you are able to go as far as carbs are concerned. All smart carbing diets generally restrict some junky foods but others are more liberal in whether you can have access to more vegetables and things like fruit, cheese, beans, legumes, whole grains. The best diet is one you can stick with. Atkins and Protein Power tend to be on the lower end of carbs. Primal and Paleo tend to tweak that some and avoid processed foods. South Beach, Sugar Busters, The Zone, tend to be more liberal carb diets while still staying below the normal. You can tweak any of them to suit your needs.

emoticon emoticon So glad you joined us! Many of us have a host of allergies including cow dairy products, soy, even certain proteins. It is very do-able to be low carb with allergies.

Post often and let us know how you are doing! Our team leaders are incredible and tremendously informative. Best wishes for much luck! emoticon

Hello, and welcome to the team!

Many of the low-carb / Paleo / Primal plans restrict dairy to one degree or another. I think you can work that into your own personal version fairly smoothly.

Be assured, you'll see plenty of "response" here! We're pretty friendly and love to help newcomers and to share our experiences. It's a learning experience for all of us.

My first suggestion is to read all you can find on low carb. One good resource that's been suggested is "Why We Get Fat". Mark'sDailyApple website is also a great resource. Once you have a good idea what the lifestyle is about, you can make a choice as to what plan to adopt while you convert to the new diet. It helps to have some structure while you work it out. Then it's all about modifying to your own unique metabolism.

The one I keep hearing is the New Atkins, I think because it seems to be the one most people understand the easiest and it's got good structure. I'm not on a particular diet, other than low-carb, and that was recommended / prescribed to us by our endocrinologist, so we're on a basically compiled low-carb diet. It's worked really well for me; still is.

And please ask us when you want clarifications or personal insights. We're glad to comply!

I am so glad to see some response...allergies: dairy products...at first I thought it was just low tolerance...but it is the worst reaction...the last time I ate a dessert...did not realized it had dairy...and within 30min all that I had eaten since 7am projected out violently...so, I really shy away from dairy products.

I look forward in learning from this team.

I am new to this and just figuring out how to introduce myself...lol...I guess I am shy...lol. I am looking around to find anything and something new to keep me motivated to control my sugar level. I just hate that I allowed myself to get this big and so sweet..lol..so I want to learn from these pages on how you guys live a normal life without going broke buying into an expensive program. I have so many allergies that even one weightloss program told me that due to my allergies not to join. :( emoticon
