I can only speak for myself but I have always struggled to lose my muffin top and it is only once I started on The Zone (very similar to what you posted about the insulin levels and low GIs) that I have been successful in losing my dreaded tummy. I find I rarely crave hi-glycemic foods however if I do, I must admit that I do indulge with a small amount but I pair it off with a protein (cheese string, etc) beforehand so that the proteins offset the hi GI effect. This method has worked well for me. I am down from a size 9 to a size 4 now after losing 20 lbs and am very pleased with the results.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself and say how glad I am to have found this SparkTeam. I'm Gina, I've been on SP for about a year now, but I only starting thinking seriously about carbs very recently when I picked up a copy of "Good Calories, Bad Calories" on a whim. I had known about the glycemic index for years, since my mom, dad, and all four grandparents are/were diabetics, and I'd been hearing about things like Atkins and Paleo eating ever since I started getting serious about losing weight. But I never thought much of it until I picked up that book and saw all the scientific evidence backing up the idea of insulin and carbs being the real culprit in the current obesity epidemic. I'm a low-carb convert, in theory anyway. :)
So anywho, I've been trying to cut out simple carbs as much as possible the past few weeks. It got off to a rough start, though, and all I could think about was ice cream! But I'm slowly becoming more consistent and I'm glad to have found this team for additional support. I look forward to getting to know you all - thanks for having me!
