I have used Spark People for a month now and have lost 14 pounds, have quite a few more to go. But everything I have seen on here has helped me to understand what to eat and how to make interesting meals. Not just the same old meat, veggies, fruit & starch. I love it and plan on continuing until I get to my goal. I have been walking more and coming up with different places to go to walk. My favorite area right now is Marguerite Falls in Green Co., it is only about 5 miles from my house and is a little over a mile hike to the falls.

Moved to TN on a leap of faith two years ago, been a rough couple years. Such a beautiful place to live. Working on getting back into life and I want to feel better. Gotta get these numbers down! Glad to know others are in the same place :) and hope I can contribute as well.

Hello all!!
My name is Leigh I live in the Tri Cities. Since college I have began a career in my specific job field but let it consume my life. And when I mean consume, I had been working almost 80 hours a week. Of course there's no time to manage what I was consuming, and quickly gained 60 pounds. I recently quit my job and I'm going back to school for something that I have more passion in. Along with this change in career path I am also on a kick to get everything out of my life that is not useful. My goal is to get back to the size I was in college. Thanks Angie but I stubbed my toe and gained some back and still have a
ways to go to get to my goal....stress does funny things, and so does lack
of sleep. I have some nights when I drift off and sleep soundly, but the other
half of them I sit up til 2 or 3 am wondering why I am not sleepy....

Hello all, My name is Nikki & I'm from Newport, Tn. I am a 34yr old Preachers wife & mother of 2 awesome kids. I have had my ups & downs with weight loss since having my kids. My oldest is about to turn 15 & the other will be 13 in a couple of weeks. So its been about a 13 year battle with my weight. My goal is lose 100lbs and so far I'm down 13lbs. I lost 65lbs 2 years ago and gained it back so I know that I can do it. I started with Spark about 3 weeks ago, and so far it has really helped me. Good Luck to all of you!!

Welcome to the group Jan. You live quite a long ways from me, but the co-leader
lives over that way, Patti....
I think it helps to do a google search and probably a spark search and look for low
carb recipes.

I dropped flour, sugar, anything starchy. There are loads of veggies you can eat,
and also meats as long as they are not breaded. Soda's, juices, things like that....you
can also look up fruit or veggie items that are low carb.

Hi. My name is Jan and I am new to Spark People. I have tried many diets before but did not have success. My doctor put me on a low carb diet for my high cholestrol. I am having trouble finding low carb recipes that are really low carb. I am also supposed to exercise but I can't find anyone close to me to do it with. Hi Y'all, I'm Shannon. I live in west Tenn. with my husband and three kids. My middle child turns 18 in July and is getting married August 1st. I weigh 305 pounds right now. My goal is to lose 100 pound by then. But i think that is a little to unrealistic, so I will probably reset it for 75. What do you think? Is it doable? I was mostly bedridden Aug 2013 to March 2014. So I haven't been doing much since then. I have to consider that I still have days that the inner ear problem still gets to me and there are days that I basically have to crawl just to get around the house.

If anyone has been through that type of problem, would love to talk more about it one on one.

Hi, I'm new to Spark. I am almost 30 (in 4 days) and living in Sevier County in East Tennessee. I lost 100lbs and have maintained that loss for a few years. I'm using Spark to lose the last 25-30lbs. Way to go Thomas....what are you doing to lose???

Are you drinking your water and doing away with soda??? The sodium even in
diet soda holds water on you....??
Logging your food, making sure you are getting protein and fiber???

Thanks Darlene. I am doing the Beach Body 21 day, but had to modify exercises because of my knees and because of swelling at the end of the day. I am on my feet and briskly walking all day 5a days a week to include daily stairs (2 sets I have to climb daily as well), but also including at least 30 minutes of strenuous exercise daily and am only getting, on average, around 1400 calories a day when I'm supposed to be eating 1740. I think that's my problem, but am going to start over and do everything required...we'll see how that goes. If that shows not progress, then I will consult a doctor and have blood work to back up what I think the other problem may possibly be. Hopeful regardless of what happens. emoticon

Good for you on the 15 pounds.

I wonder if you are eating enough, and what are you eating? Make sure you get
enough protein at each meal...as far as the medical, I don't know about the thyroid
meds, I still have mine but am on meds for it, and I lost 80 lbs....still got some to
go, but I never lost because I wasn't eating enough..
My nutritionist told me to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks, all healthy stuff....a protein and
fruit for breakfast, fruit for snack, protein and 2 veggies for lunch, veggies for afternoon
snack, and then protein and 2 veggies for supper...

The other things you might discuss with your dr. so you get the right answers for you.

New to this team. Been working on myself, seriously, since May 14, 2014. I've lost 15 pounds, but for the last 2 weeks haven't lost anything. I am too large to be plateau-ing. I am either exercising too much and eating too little calories (which is putting my body into starvation mode) or I am doing something else wrong. I have knee issues, BP issues, insulin resistant and have no thyroid due to cancer. I'm curious as to if the synthetic thyroid medicine has set my metabolism and is preventing me from losing weight? Has anyone had this problem? If so, what am I doing wrong??? Seriously discouraged.

hi guys! I'm Allison from west Tennessee, living in middle. I've been overweight my entire life and am using Spark People, not for the first time, to change my life. I've tried several times before to lose weight and have let little bumps in the road throw me completely off to the point of giving up. Hi Latisha and welcome to the team....It is good you are setting a good example for
you kids, and helping yourself at the same time. This really is not a diet, it is a healthier
way of eating and a healthy lifestyle.....

After all, your life is worth it, right????????????


I would recommend logging everything that goes in your mouth.....I personally do not
drink anything but water, no soda, no tea, but I do have one cup of coffee in the morning
and that's it....I have 10-12 cups of water a day....keep a glass jug in the fridge with lemon
slices or orange3 slices in it to make it taste a little....

HI, I'm Latisha and i live in middle Tennessee. I am married with 2 little girls ages 1 and 3. I am a full time working mom. I am on the go all day every day it feels like and have always made bad choices when It comes to food. I suffer from anxiety also . I want food when I am happy, sad, mad basically all the time.I struggle not to stop at fast food places all the time.I want to be a better example for my kids and not start them in a horrible lifestyle I have for myself.
I have tried dieting before but never stuck with anything or gave it my all. I think being honest with myself and talking to others will help me in my journey. I have recently started walking with a family member 1 mile everyday outside after work. We walk around a local lake every day when it is not raining. We have decided that today we are going to try 2 miles. I know this is a great start. I hope to get to know many of you better and be supportive to you.

My name is Sharon and I'm a pastor, wife, and mother of 4. I'm 44 and I've been overweight my whole life. I'm preparing for gastric sleeve surgery by doing a 6 month physician-managed weight loss. welcome to the team Shannon....

I recommend if you drink soda, to stop and add plenty of water to your
repertoire....soda has so much sodium it causes a lot of water retention,
let alone the damage it does to your kidneys...
