Thank you. I got it. It worked on the bike at the gym. I should have known that this little mini exercise bike wouldn't register much, but was told to just edit off body when I use my mini exercise bike at home.

I wear mine pretty close to the elbow...I find that the bike has to be ridden fast and uphill for the most amount of calories burned compared to equal time on the treadmill or elliptical....

It can take a bit of experimenting to get it just right. Glad to hear they are looking into what can be done about the results given when on a bike. I have to say I am much more impressed with how BodyMedia does things as opposed to bodybugg (Apex/24 Hour Fitness). They seem to be more responsive to what users want and have much more robust reporting--plus they have opened things up so devices like Garmins and Withings scales can interface with the Activity Manager.

I'm sure I'll figure it out. I've only had this for 9 days so it's probably just a matter of getting used to wearing it in just the right position. I know that Bodymedia posted a link on their Facebook page that they have had people tell them they have problems with the BMF recording activity while doing the bike and so they are now testing it out to see what can be done about it. Some of the experiments were also done on the right arm to see if they got better results from that.

Nice to know the 'pros' suggest the calf, too. From what I've been able to learn about how these things work, wearing it on the arm gives the most accurate overall readings, but there are a few activities where that's not the case. It may be a matter of experimenting to see where it works best for you; hope you find just the right place!

I just got a BodyMedia LINK myself after using a bodybugg for two years and tried wearing it lower on my arm last night while on the exercise bike, and it seemed like it recorded the activity best if I also made sure to do some arm movement as well (pumping my arms like running, arm circles, etc.). It also recorded the movement of the bike as steps, of course.

I called them at Bodymedia and they said to try it different positions on the arm for a few days and see what it does. And belive it or not, even one of the reps at BMF suggested the left calf

I suppose the other alternative is to take it off while you're on the bike and then add that activity in manually afterward--if it will let you, that is. I don't know how long it has to be off to give you the option of adding in activity for "off body" time.

Ok, well thanks. I guess I can just take the BMF off after the biking and then use my WW pedometer for the steps that I need to finish

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way that I can see.

I know. That's why I wanted to know if I could edit the steps in the BMF activity manager, because I also have a target of 15,000 steps a day but putting it on the calf registers as steps. I have a personal coach that looks at the activity manager

Well, it's not recommended by BMF, but a lot of people put the armband on their calf while they use a bike to get a better record of the activity. I've done that with a bodybugg (same device, just a different software package).

Ah, got it! Here's an FAQ to try when you're on the bike:

"On a exercise bike, also called a stationary bike, some people may feel they deserve more calories than they get credit for. This can be attributed to the exercise bike's geometry and handle bar style. In this case, just for riding the exercise bike, try wearing the Armband lower on the arm, closer to the elbow than the shoulder, and rotate the Armband a little to the outside of your arm. With your arm hanging at your side (not sitting on the bike or holding the handle bars), the Armband's face would be in line with your wrist watch. When you have finished riding the bike, pull the Armband back to its normal position." I haven't tried that myself, but I'm going to do that tonight.

I don't think you can edit time when you have the armband on, only add activity when it's "off body."

I wanted to add I tried to adjust the armband every way possible and it's fine if I'm walking or using the arms but it's not registering me on the bike or recumbant bike.

I was reading over the comments about the armband not registering spinning or bikes but it was picking up steps if worn around the calf. I don't want to be giving myself false readings. Mainly because I'm also doing the Jillian Michaels 360 plan for the Bodymedia Link

Welcome! By all means, it's fine to ask questions right away; that's part of what the team exists for.

I don't there is a way to edit the steps in the activity manager, at least not that I'm aware of. Are you using a pedometer in addition to your BodyMedia LINK and want to put in what it says on the pedometer?

I got my bodymedia link last week and am still trying to figure this out.I've been looking through the forum all afternoon and so decided to introduce myself. Hope it's ok to ask question in my introduction but how do I edit steps taken in the activity manager?
