Glad you are here!! I remember canning with my grandma. My grandparents had a VERY large garden (I also remember weeding it and not liking to do that part. LOL). I did canning things with my dad also. Now, I can for my family, but we make it a family affair. We all pitch in and get it done fast. (We refers to husband, son & myself) I love making jelly/jams.
Ummmm, I've been canning, dehydrating, etc. for, ummmm, 4 years!
Does the sauerkraut really smell up the place? I've always wanted to make some but don't have a place to put it where it wouldn't smell up the house.
Thanks for referencing the canned meats! I bought some chicken breasts on sale and almost forgot about them. I doubt I'll have time to can them right now so I'll just freeze them. I think I might try canning some in winter when the canning process can help heat the house. I heard they're good to cook with so I wanted to check it out.
Well, Hi there Marcia !!!! Welcome to the team... Would Love to have your sauerkraut recipe. I do mine right in the jar but would like to try the "Long" way ! What kind of meats do you can? I haven't tried that yet but would love to learn how. So Glad You joined us...It will be fun "Putting Up" with You !
My name is Marcia. I have been preserving foods (canning, dehydrating and freezing) for over 44 years and love it. I have a garden that is bountiful. I don't use any weed killers or pesticides in the garden just mulch as much as I can. I am a Master Preserver (took course through the university extension over 12 years ago). Just finished making sauerkraut today and onto sweet and sour red cabbage next. Have done so many other veggies, fruits and meats already.
