I just moved from Maryland, and don't know how to can either. And we also have the Lord in common.
Now I'm in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. I won't have a garden this year but I do plan to learn how to can this year with farmers' market produce. I also want to learn to freeze 16oz bags of fresh veggies from farmers' markets (instead of buying store bought). I've heard about lots of things I don't know anything about, like freezer jam etc. I need to buy a canner cooker thingy, too. So I will learn along with you!
Hi Everyone, I just discovered this canning site and was thrilled. I have only canned peaches (with an experienced canner) and it's been many years since I did that. I grew up watching my mother can the veggies my dad grew in the garden. I have such fond memories of watching and eating what was put up. Unfortunately both of my parents have passed and I just wish I would have asked more questions or tried canning with my mom as an adult. You always think they're going to be around forever. This year I'm determined to grow a garden and do a bit of canning for my family and in her honor.. I bought a book last year on canning but had poor luck with our garden. This year we will try again. Thanks for letting me be part of this very important group. Looking forward to learning from all of you.
