Thanks. The pear sauce I made is a pear puree. Just like apple sauce except with pears. I use it a lot for baking in place of butter or oil as well as a topping for pancakes, waffles, and french toast.

Hi all. I haden't done much canning in years until a neighbor gave me about 75 lbs of pears from his tree a couple of months ago. I made pear EVERYTHING! LOL. Now I've been bit by the canning bug again and want to can some soups and stews as well as whatever local produce I can come by for free or at good prices in season. I've asked Santa for some canning accessories and supplies. I did did the pears water bath method and I don't have a pressure canner anymore, but my daughter in law has one that she rarely uses, so for now will be borrowing that.

We add pork to our burger, just to add some grease when cooking. But our venison is not gamey. Very lean, the deer eat what the cows eat, you see them in the fields with them.

Welcome to the team.
Hunter & canner #2 here. Lisa, no fair we have a week to go on gun season!!!

We cut out meat into steak or into ground & freeze it. Sometimes we add bacon to the ground to tame the flavor down.

You can mix spices into the ground before freezing. It would be up to you what to use. Some people like deer-sausage. I'm not crazy about it. I think I might like it if it had more sage and heat.

Try checking online for wildlife recipes. I found a few good ones there. Night

So you are in the U.P.? I am in the crook of the thumb. I have never canned venison. We just freeze ours. Then I cook it and season it for whatever I'm making. Hubby is not having a lot of success with hunting this year, the lower peninsula in under a baiting ban, due to chronic wasting disease found over by Grand Rapids. But I still want two deer to make it through the year.emoticon. I do can my own spaghetti sauce, which I brown up venison and add to the sauce, yummy!

I am in northern Michigan and I'll have three hunters this year.

Do you can venison that is already seasoned? I'm desiring a preseasoned meat that I can dump into a pot and then make a meal, like spaghetti or a stew. Right now I just can ground venison with nothing else added. It's fine and convenient, but hoping to have something with more zip on the shelf.

Madge- Not pathetic, just like one of us. We will help you any way that we can, just just give a shout out and enjoy the different posts. For salsa, I cheat, I use Mrs. Wages, you just add tomatoes to the pack, cook and can. Good and simple.
Another venison eater. Tomorrow is opening rifle, hubby is gone until Monday hunting. I want to deer, with a family of 5, we need that to feed us through the year.

I guess I'm a canning freak also, but my family is so much healthier for it, plus we grow our own food, with the exception of apples and peaches. We do have trees started, but it will be a few years before we have fruit.

Take care and look forward to getting to know you as we put food by.

I am a canning freak! I'm not an old-timer at it, but I absolutely love canning! I mostly do fruits, pie fillings, and venison. I have tried salsa and that was terrible. I'll try again.

I also enjoy dehydrating foods.

This has been a slow year since I lost my son, but I do what I can when I have the desire and energy.

I'm SOOO happy to have found this group! I have to credit MELINKY--she had welcomed me to another team I joined and I checked out her sparkpage. When I saw that there was a Putting Food By team I was so happy.

I probably sound pathetic, but I love canning. lol.
