WE REALLY NEED TO GET SOME ACTION IN HERE!!
I've been vegetarian about a year (with eggs and occasionally dairy though it doesn't really agree with me so not often), and getting protein is not a problem, in fact easy if you like soy (I like SOME).

I just make sure each meal has either beans, tofu, seeds, nuts, with grains, vege and fruit, and I'm usually fine. I still eat eggs too, and I really only eat dairy when I'm out for a meal, as the vegetarian options usually involve cheese or cream (but then on top of my bloated belly, I feel guilty so I avoid it).

and how could I forget Lentils!!! they're amazing, cheap, versatile, tasty - I mean really..

Not sure if you're even still checking this board (or if anyone is for that matter).. but hopefully this helps! I can elaborate a bit further if need be. I get so excited about vege cooking at work that I've got my friends intrigued and they've been asking for recipes or wanting to come over for tea!

Hello.....hello...is anyone there? I am thinking of going vegetarian, but I am worried that I won't be able to get enough protein for building muscle. Is there anyone here that can provide some advice? I hope I hear from someone..

Hi, DiveGoddess and all,

I'm hanging-in here with my lacto-ovo veg nutrition and my strength and cardio training.

Maybe we need some new THREADS on this board. How about a July CHALLENGE?

Cheers.

Feel free to ask anything about vegetarianism.. I've been at it for about 25 years and I've tried every combination of vegetarianism, lol. I've successfully lost fat on a vegetarian diet, gained muscle, you name it.
Tofu is not as bad as all the other processed soy, like soy milk, soy cheese, soy burgers, etc. When it comes to soy, stick to the traditional forms like tofu, tempeh, edamame and natto (fermented soy that Japanese like to pour on top of rice). Keeping as natural as possible is better. I'm not into eating fake meats, cheeses, etc. I eat simple natural food like beans and rice, legumes, etc. I do supplement with some powders.

I'm lactose intolerant and whey takes me straight to the bathroom, and processed soy is known to give problems with thyroid and other toxic effects (controversial ) so I use pea protein, brown rice proteins and raw proteins made from raw sprouts, all vegan. Right now I am using one called Sun Warrior protein. It's a bit chalky tasting, and I am still looking for a better tasting one. I heard Vega protein tastes good but it's high in sodium. I also use hemp protein.
I am doing a 3 week detox right now, this week was 100% raw vegan, but I am using the raw protein powders so I won't lose muscle. Next week is all liquids. I'm writing blogs every day if you are interested..I lose muscle every time I do a detox but this time I am supplementing with raw protein so I have been maintaining weight and lean mass.

My name is Sabrina and I am looking to lose fat and build muscle the healthy way but I want to be vegan. I am hypothyroid and looking to find out the right diet for me so I can quickly (and healthily) shed fat. Right now I've severly limited animal products and hope to eventually eliminate them; however, this is tough especially since I've grown up on meat.

I eventually want to compete in a figure competition; however, right now it's a goal but I'm trying to learn how to control what I eat considering I am an emotional compulsive eater. I have alot of weight to lose but I have been working on myself for a month now. I know it will take time, but I am looking and needing support.

I look forward to meeting and corresponding with each of you!

Haven't exercised regularly for a while, but determined to get better and get a great restart. Doing C25K, and thinking about joining a "boot camp" workout class. Looking forward to working with all of you!
