Hubby is on antbiotics and we have rescheduled the Stress Tests for the end of the month so he will feel better for it.

This afternoon I have an Info session at 3-5pm-have to be there at 2:30pm. Looking forward to it. The next one will b on Oct 11th-same time.

Sorry about what you've been through with your husband. I hope everything turns out ok. I didn't realize you were pursuing weight loss surgery. Good luck with that. My cousin had the surgery last year thru Ellis and I went with her to a support group meeting. I found it all very interesting and everyone was very helpful to my cousin.

Keep us posted on both you and your husband.

Great going!!!!!

It was a busy weekend here also as on Friday my husband was in the ER and then admitted until Sunday am for chest pain. His Cardiologist-Dr. Stephen Brady discharged him but wants him to go to a stress test at his office this week ASAP.
Plus we have physicals in our PCP's office this week.

Next week will be busy as Oct 9th and 11th I need to attend 2 Info Sessions at South clinical for the Weightloss Surgery Program. On the 11th there is also a Support Group meeting that I could go to since it immediately follows the Info session and I need to go to some. While I am there might as well. Then on the 15th am-it is my Nutritionist there.
I am all charged up and positive about the Surgery-which will be next year sometime.

I'm around Carol. :0) Hope all is well with you. I'm doing well for the most part. Not perfect, but I'm losing and sticking to my exercise so I'm happy with what I'm doing. Just finished my 2nd Ragnar Relay. This year my team and I ran from Saratoga Springs to Lake Placid. I did a total of 17miles over 3 legs. We started at 6 a.m. friday and finished about 6:40 p.m. Saturday. No sleep and didn't get home until almost 11 p.m. last night and didn't get to bed until about 2 a.m. But, still got up at 7:30 to run with a friend this a.m. Tooka nap this afternoon. :0) It was a rainy relay, but at least the rain held off today until we'd finished running. :0)

Hi Jen, Carol and Lisa. I haven't been around Spark much so I'm sorry Jen and Lisa that I'm just saying 'hi' and welcoming you. Carol, glad you are persevering and doing what you can. That's life sometimes and losing/maintaining weight is for the long term so even though we're inpatient for results, making sure we keep things realistic and in balance, will do us more good in the future. At least that's what I've learned for myself anyway since I've been on this journey for 5 years now. I had quick results initially (100 lbs in 10 mos), but have been trying to lose the last 40 for almost 5 years. FINALLY, these last few months I think I've turned the corner and I am now less than 25 lbs from the goal I set for myself over 5 years ago. I'm hopeful to reach my goal by 11/18, the 5 yr anniversary of having lost 100.5lbs. I've realized that I needed to go thru all I have to be at this point and by learning all I have a long the way, I feel confident that I will maintain my goal which is what I truly want. Oops, sorry to ramble.

Anyway, welcome and I hope you find what you need here to get to your goals too.

Jen, you mentioned running a 5k. As a runner, I'm curious if you are (or plan to) train on your own or with a group? If you're interested, there is a great beginner running group thru Fleet Feet called No Boundaries. I was a participant in 2009 and a mentor in 2010 and 2011, so I'm a little biased. :0) I plan to mentor again in 2013 (couldn't this year only because I got a part-time job ay my local YMCA and was working on the night the group met). If you have any interest, let me know and I'd be happy to share more.

Lisa, glad your son is stable and nowmyou can focus on you. Good luck! You can do this!

Hi! I just found this group, but have been on SP since 2/13/12. I'm 36, mom of 2 from Guilderland, NY. Currently a SAHM because my last child was born w/ serious health issues. I too have a connection to Albany Med because I spent many weeks there in 2008/09 w/ my son. My son is now stable medically and is in preschool, so it has allowed me some time to get my act together and take care of myself. I have been heavy since about 3rd grade, and an extreme yo-yo dieter. For me the first challenge will be sticking it out til the end and the hardest I think will be maintaining, something I've never been able to do.

Hi everyone,

I am Jen, a 32 year old who grew up in Schodack. I currently live in Latham with my husband and our two little boys. I am also a part time middle school science teacher near Albany. Trying to find a balance between home life and work life is on my mind daily! I just joined the group because I really like the idea of being able to support the goals of people near my hometown. I am also a part time middle school science teacher near Albany.

My goals in my healthy lifestyle changes include: losing 46 pounds (down 12 so far!), building muscle tone, being able to run a 5K, and maintenance of these goals.

Nice to hear from you Mary. I work nights on D4N, a busy floor that has me running all the time.
Working nights is hard on the system, so I have to take it bit by bit. When I get off in the mornings I am so tired and my feet hurt (due to the hairline fractures). But, I manage and there are some days I just don't have any energy at all.

Hi Carol! Nice to meet you. Welcome. I'm not that active around Spark these days,but I try to keep up a little. I also work at AMC. I'm a social worker and run a grant program thru pediatrics, so I work days. You can do this. When I started my weight loss journey in 2007, I weighed in at 278.5 lbs. I've lost 100+ lbs since then. I lost the 100 within the first 10 mos or so, but I'm still working on losing the 35-40 lbs I still have to go. If I can do this, anyone can. Believe me. Food is my issue. I may not love to exercise, but it has made all the difference in my losing weight and keeping off what I've lost.

It's a day to day process. Focus on your small goals and they will get you to your larger goal.

Hello All;

My name is Carol and my husband and I have been up here in the Albany area since 2007-we are from Florida and will hopefully get to go back to Florida next Spring/Summer.
We both work the night shift at the hospital here-AMC.
So, we sleep during the day and work our behinds off at night at work.

For exercise-I use my indoor exercycle and handweights.

I was going to go through the weightloss surgery, but when they handed me the list-2 pages of it-of things I needed to get done and see before the surgery, it was just too much money.
Co-pay is 35.00 each time and so that added up over 2,000.00 before the surgery.
I just don't have that kind of money.

So, back to the old fashion way! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hey Everyone-i've been in albany for 5 years or so. i lost about 30 pounds 3 years ago and have been able to keep it off. i work for an educational company and i have found some time on my hands with changes at work and i am hoping to lose another 10 pounds or so before the end of may. this is the perfect time to do it with it being so yucky out and i know that if i stick with it between now and may, only good will come of it. i do spinning about 2-3 times a week and i did a boot camp this summer from july-october at 5:30am! It was awesome and will do it again this summer. I have the P90X dvds and they are great. i was hoping to start a meetup or something to do them with others or maybe use skype? Anyway, hope to meet some of you and keep each other motivated!

Hi Paula! Nice to meet you and Welcome. I work in Albany, but live near Saratoga. My exercise routine includes running, strength training, biking, and I'm about to add swimming to the mix. (My challenge for 2011 is to give triathlons a try with some friends. Haven't swam in 20 years...fear of bathing suit!)

I workout mostly on my own (though I'm joining the Y for the tri training and swimming) and run a couple of times a week with friends. I saw on your Sparkpage the Couch25k team. Have you run before or is this new? I started running in 2008 and joined a beginner's running program, No Boundaries, in 2009 and was a mentor this year. It's a great beginning running program that meets in Albany (at the Crossings) and in Saratoga. They'll be starting up again in March/April 2011 to train for a 5k. If you're interested just let me know (it's run through Fleet Feet on Wolf Road in Albany). The program changed my life (and that's not an exaggeration, but it's different for everyone) and I could talk about it all day! LOL. :0)

My name is Paula. I've been a yo yo dieter for years, especially during college since I snacked a lot during my intense studies. I live 10 minutes from Albany.

You're a massage therapist-how wonderful. i have been looking into that but, right now, money is a big issue so i'll put that new career on hold for a time.

Thanks for the info Mindy on the podcast. I'll definitely have to check it out.

Thanks for asking Fran. On Sunday, I did weight training and run intervals since I did my long run on Saturday. Today, though I did run for 4.5 miles and walked a mile. This will be my longest run for this week since my 10k is Saturday. I'll limit myself to 3 miles or less whenever I run for the rest of the week and do some walking.

Cross your fingers that the weather improves a bit for Saturday. I've run in the rain, I just prefer not to! =0)

The podcast is available on iTunes but you can also go right to their site and listen - it's www.fat2fitradio.com/ and they do a great job with posting links to the things they talk about and Jeff & Russ (the hosts) are down to earth and realistic about the process. Jeff is from Cananda and a gym teacher and Russ is in Calif and is the guy losing the weight. He used to have a podcast called "Fat Guy Radio" but he's lost lots now. Anyway, check them out!

Hi All,
I joined SP last week and thought I'd better introduce myself. My name is Mindy and I live in Milton, just steps from Saratoga Springs. I am a school administrator and work in the Albany area. I am a Portuguese Water Dog nut (we have 2) and have 2 teen aged daughters.

I have been all over the scale over the years and am sick of it. I have been as high as 255 and as low as 157 (I'm 5'6") in the past 10 years. Right now I'm somewhere in the middle of that range. Obviously, the older I get, the harder it gets to move the needle down. I have lately been listening to "Fat2Fit Radio," a podcast, and have enjoyed it. Their philosophy is that if you eat to maintain the weight you want to be, then eventually you'll get there. The problem for me has been that because of age (I'm 43) and thyroid issues, I think that I really need to eat much less than the Basal Metabolic Rate formula says I do...so this week has been about accepting it, whining a little about it, and getting ready to live on less. I'm focusing on making sure I get enough protein and fitting some form of movement into each day. Baby steps, right? I know it will take me a long time to lose the 44# that I have to shed, but I'd rather do it once and be done with it, even if it's slow and steady.
I've already been welcomed by many of you - so thanks! emoticon

Shachi, tell me where you go in nycity to find your favorite food. when i visit my daughter there, we love to discover new places to eat.we are both vegetarian and she won't eat anything made with fats, oils, etc. so we always need to ask for special preparations.
where have you been in this area? the last time i went to the sitar on central ave. i really enjoyed it but then, i am not well versed in what everything should taste like. i just knew i had to force myself to stop eating because i was full. it all tasted delicious to me.

i put weight on in my face first, too and lose it there first. unfortunately for all the rest of it that is packed on the bottom half of me and likes to stay there!

i am sorry you are so homesick. you are creating your future and making amazing memories while you are young. you won't regret it, i am sure.

Hey thanks much Fran!
I am still in the healthy BMI Range and I know I don't have much to lose. But I have to lose it for the sake of my face, a little weight I gain, and it all goes to my face :) I have started eating healthy from past 3 days and have already lost a pound. Im excited!

No, eating American food did not make me put on weight. It was mainly because of almost no activity for first 6 months(It was tooo cold to go out) & I started eating a little more than I used to. I was very homesick and took resort in food. Whenever I missed home, I used to eat!!

Thats great to know that you love Indian food. Unfortunately, I did not find any good Indian restaurants in Albany area :( especially south Indian food(like idly, dosa). I always have to travel to NYC to eat good south indian food.

there is a great deal of information and motivational material here on sparkpeople. i was so happy to find it too!
you don't have much to lose so you can concentrate on eating well and healthy and moving a little more.

i have a question. did you start eating more of an "american" diet so it led to a weight gain?
i love any and all Indian food i have had .as a vegetarian, i am always more than satisfied but since i have it so rarely, i am always tempted to eat far too much, especially if there are different nans on the table.then someone needs to stop me!

i hope our team gets going and we all post more often to offer support to each other.

Hello everyone,

I'm Shachi, a 26 year old girl. I am a grad student @ SUNY Albany. I moved to Niskayuna from Bangalore, India 2 years ago.

I am new to SP & to this forum. I'm still discovering the articles, blogs, tools etc. My goal is to lose 10-15 lb which I have put on from past 2 years. I recently signed up with Golds gym in Niskayuna. Its great to see the enthusiastic crowd in this forum. I'm sure you guys will be great help in motivating me. I'm Pattie, and I've been with SP for almost 2 years. I had lost 60 lbs, but due to illness and injury have gained some back. I'm looking for motivation and friendship along the way.

I live with my husband of 22 years and my dog Sadie in the town of Providence, just north of Galway, and I work in Ballston Spa. We're right on the border of the Adirondack Park.

Hi everyone. I joined this team quite a while back, but never posted to introduce myself. Quite rude, I know. =0) I've been around SparkPeople for some time and check in fairly regularly, but I haven't done so well with posting to my teams or updating my blog on a consistent basis. But, I'm trying to rectify that little by little. So, here I am, better late than never to say 'hi' and introduce myself.

My name is Mary and I live in Ballston Spa. I'm currently single and live with my 4 cats a.k.a my 'fur children'. I'm a social worker in Albany, but travel a fair amount around the state for my job. I've lost over 100 lbs since 1/2007, but have spent 2008 and 2009 basically maintaining with some ups and downs along the way. My goal is to use the rest of this year to get 'over maintenance' and reach my goal, though I know being healthy and maintaining my goal weight will be a life long process. I am great about exercising, but food has been my stumbling block (I'm definitely a compulsive/emotional/binge eater, but I've made some great strides recently dealing with that and feel very hopeful). I consider myself a runner now so a lot of my exercise focuses on running races (I've done 3 5ks and am set to do one more in October and my goal for this year is a 10k at the end of October). I joined a running group (No Boundaries through Fleet Feet in Albany...if anyone is interested in running or run/walking or even walking a 5k and wants to train with a group, just ask me about it) which has helped keep me motivated and I just finished 3 weeks of 'fitness boot camp' 4 mornings a week in the Spa park. It was intense, but the results are great...I signed up for another session in September...maybe I'm just crazy!!

O.k. I've rambled enough. I guess that's something else to know about me...it may take me a while to join in and talk, but once I get going, I can't seem to stop myself!! LOL =0)

Hey everyone,

I'm Beth. I have probably replied to some form of this thread at one time or another, but thought it was appropriate to do so again. I haven't lived in the Capital Region very long, but I think I'm finding my way around a lot better than I did 2 years ago. You could say that my physical fitness is minimal at best. But I just started working with a trainer at a local gym and bought my first ever gym membership (I plan on putting it to good use). emoticon

I'm very excited to be doing something for myself for a change instead of trying to please everyone else. I would love to make friends or a workout buddy with the same goals I have (more than 100lbs to lose) to go walking once a week (or more depending on scheduling). I hope to hear from you soon, because I would love to know that

Hey everyone! My name is Alison & I'm 23. I'm actually from central MA, but I'm temporarily living in Albany until August with two of my friends. I've been going to Bally Total Fitness @ Crossgates since the beginning of the month & have lost 7 pounds! Hope to get to know you guys better and maybe learn something about Albany, too.

Welcome....you can't kill this thread...seriously. there aren't too many of us in here and everyone doesn't come in on a daily basis. There are lots of groups out there that are awesome as well.
