I've always been an organic gardener and it does have it's challenges but it is so worth it when you can go out a pop a cherry tomato in your mouth right off the vine. I have some physical challenges also and gardening is the only exercise that I get. I use raised beds since I can't get down and kneel.
I weighed 349 lbs last April and now I've lost 60lbs on the 17DD. I don't think it's due so much to the particular diet itself, but to the fact that it's all about unprocessed, healthy foods. The first 17 days are a cleansing process and I was sick for about 9 days from all the toxins in my system. I discovered that I can't eat wheat. If I eat anything with wheat I don't lose weight even if I'm 1200 calores or under.
The point I'm trying to make is that I blame all the chemicals - herbicides and pesticides for messing up my system so I couldn't lose weight. I'm totally against GMO products because the whole purpose of them is so they survive when they spray for weeds and bugs. Now they're spraying Agent Orange. That has to mess with our systems.
Sorry I got on my soapbox - I hope you enjoy your organic produce.

Hi, welcome to the team. Spark People is about life style changes that help you to get healthy through eating better and excercising. Small changes add up to a big difference, if you make them a perminant part of your life style. Gardening, especially organic gardening can be one of those changes. The food is healthier, I have been reading recently that organic food is higher in a lot of trace nutrients than food produced by most commercial methods. Getting out and gardening is an xcelent form of exercise. If at first you can only work in the garden for a few minutes at a time you are still burning more calories than you would just sitting.
What a great idea to share a garden space. Some people own a plot and put in some money, other people do the work, and everyone eats better. Love it! Don't know your climate, if it's cold start with a cold frame to extend the growing season. Cheers, Birgit
You can talk to God all you want and that's great, but the changes happen when you start listening to him.

I admit it; I am a skeptic, both in weight loss and organic gardening. I've 'dieted' my entire life and never lost but gained, and we'll see about the organic gardening. I have some beautiful dogs for my west neighbors and a toddler girl as my east neighbor so I'm all for organic in place of poison! I think it might take a few years, but I am in contact with some strong young people who are willing to donate the labor to grown their own vegetables, and I will foot the bill out of gratitude. I have a beautiful garden plot so I feel obligated to produce something with it, and I a not physically able (yet) to do it myself! I am so thrilled!!!!!!
