They cook up like turnip greens, as long as they aren't too old.

I picked up week 3 of my CSA vegetables yesterday. In addition to tomatoes, bell pepper, turnips, winter squash and sweet potatoes, there are more greens in there than I can even identify. I recognize the turnip greens, swiss chard, bok choy, kale, and leaf lettuces, but there are a couple of other varieties that are a mystery to me.

Could anyone tell me if you can use the tops (greens) of radishes and beets in salads, or would they be something that you would cook like turnip greens?

This link is a good place to start:
www.localharvest.org/csa
You might be surprised to find one in your area. I got my Tuesday email telling me what I can expect in my box this Thursday. It will contain:

Scarlet Queen turnips
light pink, edible, delicious greens-turnip shaped
- Chinese Radishes
cylindrical shaped, pink
- Sweet Potatoes
- Onion
- Tomatoes
these won't last much longer, enjoy them while you can!
- Green Bell Pepper
- Delicata Squash
creamy color, dark green stripes
- Beets
- Baby green arugula (jagged edged)

Good luck on finding a CSA of your own. I know that you would love it.

I haven't seen CSA's in my area but would welcome this. Our IN farm land seems to be dedicated to monocultures.

I have not yet signed up for a CSA, mostly because I haven't been able to commit to always picking it up somewhere each week. However, there is a new one in our area that delivers to your door that I am considering.

On a related note, next Tuesday's Weekly Spark will contain an article about CSAs, so check it out if you are interested but have questions about what they involve!

Welcome,
I subscribed to a csa this summer in Tennessee. The season is over now, but I will be eating the winter squash and potatoes from it for several months to come. It is fun to see what is in the box each week.

I'll bet it beautiful. You might have to give me pointers when I tackle my garden. I would also like to have some organic plants on my patio, It's going to be Spring though. I recently had ankle surgery, and as easy as it is to operate, I'm not sure if I could maneuver my Mantis right now.

I'm sure you'll love it. Some of the produce, I had to look up on their website to see what it was. It definitely introduced me to new produce and had me looking for new recipes. Next year I plan to grow some organic foods in my small above-ground garden. I hope to get wisdom and suggestions from the team.

Hi Retha!

My in-laws signed up for their produce from a CSA this year. We picked up 3 of the weeks when they were out of town. The fruits & veggies were wonderful! They made me try new things and think of new ways to use the produce so nothing went to waste. I want to sign up for a CSA next year!

Hi, I'm Retha, and I live in North Alabama (Zone 8). For the past year I have been getting all of my produce from a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm. I have been pleasantly surprised at the variety of fruits and vegetables that I receive, and all are 100% organic. We pay upfront before the season begins and then pick up our "share" each week. There are usually "extras" that we can take home, as well. And, beginning this season, there's a "swap box". If you get something that you don't like you swap it for something else. If you'd like to, look up "www.doerunfarmtn.com". They deliver to areas in No. Alabama and Tennessee. Our fall and winter season begins this Thursday so I'll let you know what our first delivery contains.

I hope to make friends on this team, and learn from those who are experienced (or just starting out). Later, I'll tell you about (and ask questions) my small garden.
