Hi - I'm Carla and I am just starting to add some real strength training into my workout routine. Right now I'm doing Couch to 5K three days a week with "choose your own adventure" kind of cardio on weekends - I basically try to find fun ways to fit in walks, dance around while I'm cleaning etc. On alternating days, I do strength workouts. I want to get away from the machines in the gym and I have been doing some upper body work with free weights as well as some bodyweight exercises (negative pull-ups, dips, planks, push ups, etc.) to get stronger.
My goal is to have a toned body - something I've never had. Certainly I've been thinner, and I am working to lose weight, but when I see women with beautiful backs and toned arms and legs it makes me think that I could look that way too if I tried.
I have a few goals
1) Define some muscles in my upper body and back and get stronger over all.
2) I really want to be able to do a pull up.
3) I would love to look better in a skirt, but I have trouble making goals with my lower body because my legs have always been kind of shapeless, so I am not sure what a good goal would be there.
4)With better core muscles and shoulder/back work, I want to get to a point where I'm competitive in archery again. At one point I was ranked 22nd in the country, but I mostly coach now and its hard for me to shoot for long periods of time.
Challenges: I have time to devote, certainly, but I know for me the biggest challenge will be consistency. I want to be able to have a workout routine that is interesting, that I can progress with, and that I can actually remember to do all the parts of it each week.
