Go for it, but you have to be all in or it won't work. Dietary compliance is key to success - you can't out exercise the bad diet... must have posing help too. Previous advise is spot on.

I have several friends that competed without a coach and even placed top 5!! But they got help from friends who have competed so they weren't completely in the dark. I'v done both, but the first time I had a coach and I'm glad I did because I didn't have any support and I had no clue. I especially needed a posing coach. I also did it for a goal and to focus on a concrete goal because when I didn't, I got lazy. Just the idea of standing on the stage with a skimpy suit got me to work harder.

Unfortunately, I know I CAN'T afford a coach (I have been down that road before), but I am fortunate that I have a few people in my life who have successfully competed in the past, or are doing so now. For me, the motivation is really to have some structure and a goal, not necessarily to win. Of course that might change down the road, we will see...

Thanks, ladies!

If you decide to give it a try, you will develop a new relationship with food. You will learn things you didn't know, and I suspect it will forever change your relationship with food for the good.

Also, I'd suggest when you get to where you know you are a few months out that you hire a coach to make your diet and probably your workouts, too. Leaning in for a competition is tricky by yourself.

Hi everyone!
My name is Kristin, I am a 31-year old mother of one, and have been toying with the idea of entering a figure competition for the past 3 years.

I am relatively active, so the training isn't an issue, it is the dieting that is going to get me. Food is really my only vice, and I have developed some horrible habits over the years...

Now is the time for me to break these habits, give myself a goal and be a role model for my daughter. I know I can't do it alone, so here I am! Can't wait to get started.
