Hi Val,
Reading thru our replies and yours struck a cord. My doctor found mine very low too and has me on 5,000 units of vitamin D3. Was very surprised to hear it's become common place in America for this (low level in Vitamin D) Weird??
Anyway, just wanted to drop you some info so you know you have company : )

Hi, I am Valarie and I am new to this team. But not to SP and not to walking for health.
I have been a walker since May 2012. And unfortunately, I broke my foot on Jan 8th, while on the walking track.
At that time I had lost 70 pounds. I thought it would be 6, maybe 8 weeks and I would be right back there walking again.
But its coming up on 12 weeks and my foot still isnt fully healed.
I discovered that I have a severe vitamin d definecy. The doctors told me my vitamin d was 20...and 30 is considered low.
I was told I was lucky I wasnt a diabetic, that my blood pressure wasnt higher and that a broken foot was all that I had broken.
I have been on high doses of vitamin d since, and have gone back to the doctor for 2 follow up appts.
The bone isnt healing as quickly as it should, so that means no walking. And I am still having to wear the boot.
I have seen my vitamin d increase to 24...but need it to be somewhere closer to 75....
So, I have slacked off on all exercise, I have lost my motivation and have gotten lazy,
have even resorted back to some bad eating habits,
But I have found my way back,
I am working at it again, after having gained 7 pounds back,
I refuse to gain one more pound due to laziness,
I joined this team, to help keep me motivated until the day I can return to my love of walking.
And I thank you all for having me as part of the team,

Hi, I just joined on 3/9 and I'm loving this site! Walking is my favorite exercise. I walk everyday on my breaks at work and I try to get out to the park every weekend. I have a fitbit and my daily goal is 10,000 steps and I'm proud to say that I almost always make it! I love checking to see how far I've gone. I'm so glad I found this team.

Hi I'm a new member here and like to say hello : ) I'm with Sparkpeople.com since July 2012 and enjoy many of the teams available to us. My biggest and greatest achievment here is becoming a non-smoker and dropping to my current weight of 116. Can't thank Spark People and my friends and doctors enough!! I feel so very healthy now! It's a good feeling isn't it? : )

Hello sparkteam! I'm new to sparkpeople, and I've just begun to change my unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle. I'm a bit limited my a knee injury, even though I'm in my early 20s so walking has quickly become my favorite form of low impact exercise. I have to admit, at first I felt like I wasn't doing enough to really get enough exercise by just walking but I've already lost 10lbs before I joined sparkpeople. Here's to getting healthy and walking the weight off!

Hi, I'm Evelyn and I'm English, I live in the suburbs of London. I've been on sparkpeople for a while, but I'm not calorie counting, tracking or measuring, as I'm a Paul McKenna type weight loser. I do however track my exercise. I walk a lot, as well as do loads of other low impact exercises, cycling, swimming, tai chi, karate, as unfortunately my knees are bad. This seemed a good group to join.

Hi Everyone. I am back! I had surgery on my neck April 2012. I am ready to start walking again and eating right. I always felt better after walking, so I want to join the Walking Sparklers to hopefully keep it up and lose the extra weight I have. After my surgery I have had to be very careful so my neck will fuse correctly. I was in pain for 5 years prior and I did not want to mess it up. I have been cleared to walk while doing physical therapy for the rest of my spine. I am ready!!! :)

Hello: I'm new to this group but have been a member of Spark for a while now. I have a bad habit of being gung ho and changing everything at once and having it fall apart pretty quick. So this time I am starting slow. I feel like my journey at times falls apart due to not planning well enough however this morning was a nightmare we slept in and my son was late for school and the last thing I wanted to do was to go for a walk, but I just made the decision to at least walk as far as the school with him, and then I just kept going. It taught me that sometimes you just gotta go with the flow and do the unexpected and if you say I'll go and see how I feel after ten minutes, you will most likely keep going. Who knew. LOL. I am ridiculously proud of myself for walking to which is a change as I normally am my worst critic, small changes. Good luck everyone and happy walking.

I'm Marilyn. I love to walk. I don't like using a pedometer. I measure minutes or miles. I don't own a car and live in a small city so I walk to get most places. I plan to walk the AP trail this upcoming spring. I hope to head to Georgia in late March to start my five to seven month hike. Then, I'll be walking ten hours a day (a guess).

Hello! I'm Eddy, 32 from Oregon. I'm married and have 2 dogs and 4 cats. I'm a Veterinarian and I love my job :)

My naturopath and acupuncturist have recommended walking as opposed to running. I love to run and its been forever since I've done much running. My current goals is to have a baby. We've been trying for three years. Anyway, they want me walking for fertility! My dog babies will be happy :)

I'm hoping to be able to get a fitbit soon, but I do have a HRM. My goal will be a combo of walking at work and after work to reach a daily goal of 10,000 steps.

Hi...I'm Mo & I've been on SP awhile, but only gotten "active" really this year. I started doing deep water aerobics back in July & I'm toning & getting stronger but the weight really isn't coming off. So I'm back to sweating on the treadmill 2 nights a week. My starting point is a mile which right now is taking me about 30 minutes. The plan is to add more time til I'm doing about an hour...or 2 miles & then I am going to work on pace & get moving faster. So the challenges are built in & I hope to really start moving some of this weight off.

My larger goals are to come off the Metformin (diabestes drug) & to be healthy enough to prevent any future cancer!

Hi my name is Rosie and I've been doing the Walk At Home workouts for over 2 years now. I always stopped exercising at the first excuse that popped up but I'm proud to say that I have been consistent since I began again about 7 weeks ago thanks to the help of Spark People and the ease of being able to exercise at home when time permits. I am currently doing 2-3 Miles a day and my mini-goal is to be able to do a 5 Mile Walk and my ultimate challenge is to be able to jog/run again. I hurt my knee when I was younger and it can be painful to jog but I have been building up endurance and I can do the jog intervals on the Leslie Sansone DVDs now with out pain so step by step I want to carry out my goals.

Hello, team! My name is Cassie, and I've been with SparkPeople for 4 years now, and... as of two years ago, I am (constantly) within 10lbs of my goal weight. I'm 22, live in Apex, North Carolina, and have been gradually turning my fitness routine into primarily walking, as I have learned that I am not a huge fan of running, and I no longer have a gym membership. The area in which I live has plenty of sidewalks for getting around, as well as some beautiful lake trails nearby. Hello all. My name is Nancy but I go by An'ya. I hope you are doing well today. Walking seems to be the only exercise at this point and time I can get in. I get about 3 miles a day for a 30 min walk. Want to build up to more but I have to watch my carb intake as I am on metformin. I don't want one of it's nasty side effects. I know the more you do the counts for tracking go up. I have already lost 12.7 lbs...and working at keeping it going.

Hello All, i'm Tea. I've been away from Spark for almost 6 months now, and gained back the little bit of weight i had lost while i was away. I quit because was fed up with the dieting and the tedious gym machines. My daughter started kindergarten this month, and since her school is close by, i decided we should try walking to school, and i found that i enjoy it!! I tried taking my dog out for a walk (duh, right?) and i really enjoyed that too.
I finally found a form of exercise that i truly like, something i look forward to, and the best part is it doesn't hurt knees! So i've decided to focus on walking for now - getting my diet into shape will have to come later. My goal is to walk 25 miles a week. I've been walking twice a day at minimum, for two weeks now and i average about 3 miles a day (sometimes 5, sometimes only 2). I want to mostly focus on the mileage, not so much the time or calories burned, since for me, walking a longer distance is more enjoyable.
Anyway, i thought this would be the perfect Team for me. So, hello! (and sorry for being so long-winded)!

Hi All! My name is Judy and I live in the foothills of North Carolina. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA but move here in 1997. I love to walk and recently have become lazy. I think it was this really hot summer but I have not been wanting to get up at 5 AM to go for a walk. I am glad I found this team and hope that I get back on track. I feel like you see so much more when you walk and begin the day with a little exercise.

I everyone!! I'm Elaine and I'm a recent (last 2.5 years) Florida resident, moved down here for Boston, Massachusetts... I'm 78 years old (although I still think I'm 16) and for many years I would walk everywhere!! In the past 10 years, due to several surgeries, including Breast Cancer and a Heart Valve replacement, I've gotten lazy and have lived a rather sedentary lifestyle... I lost my breath walking further than my mailbox. AND, to add to all of that, we know what the temperature has been in the US...and it's been warm in Florida, but less than up north.

I need to exercise...I NEED MOTIVATION!!! I'm so glad I finallly found this team...I think it's the right place for me to be at this time and to get started. Thanx. emoticon

Hi. I'm Georgia. I just joined Sparkpeople Sun. I am wanting to get back into walking, after a hiatus of a year due to physcal problems. I was walking up to 6 miles a day. I was walking in the dunes and forest. The hills were very steep. I won't say it was easly, but I made it. I walked all winter and summer long. Then knees started acting up. Now it is my back. I figure I have to start small and somewhere. So I am starting by walking around the block. That is only 1/4 of a mile. I will increase as I can.

Hi, my name is Rachel. I have been walking for a while since January of 2012. I put in an average of 2 to 4 miles per day. For some reason, it took me a while to realize, that I could join a walkers group as well, so I just joined this group about a couple of days ago. Hi. I am new here. I will do my best to walk. I have some back issues that prevents me from walking to far. I am starting out slow. One block at a time. I will increase each week. Last year at this time I was walking at least 6 miles a day in the dunes/forest. I was walking up and down very steep hills. It was difficult but I did it and I was so proud of myself.

Hello everyone, I joined this team because it best suits what is going on now in my life. Walking has recently become the best change I ever made in my life. I had joined this site years ago and I didn't keep up with it. But Now I am serious.

Succeeding is Crucial if I am going to rise above not only my physical circumstances but my Financial Circumstances. Living a sedentary life only made things worse while being out of work. Now I must prepare myself for work again. And Since My body was not quite ready, I've got a little way to go but I am a lot more stronger today than I was a few weeks ago.

My current goal is to walk for at least 75 minutes per day 7 days a week. On rainy days I use Leslie Sansone's "Walk away the Pounds" videos.

I need a support group to talk about my walking. And People I can share my success with. emoticon

I love to walk, I get out every other day and walk a mile. I would like to increase that, and try to start a light jog too. Thanks

I've been a walker for a few years now and I love it. I just moved back to CO (which seems to be the walking, running, biking, hiking capital of the US). I look forward to upping my walking and hopefully participating in a few 5ks along the way.

Walking to a DVD does count as walking; as does all the steps you take when your doing things around the house and in the yard...I once bought me a pedometer and got tired of always looking at the thing because it contained so many steps!

~hello sparkers,

I can only walk for now since I had surgery on my shoulder.
I have been on Spark for awhile now. I also gained weight back since I was at home.

I'm more Motivated to get back to my old self.

Hello! I am a newbie and I have around 50 lbs to lose. I have been walking 4 to 5 days a week for the last 4 weeks. I have foot issues, so my progression has been slow. I hope to return to running again someday, but until my foot issues are resolved from healing or surgery, I will stick to limited walking. I am looking forward to being a part of an active team!

I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself. I've put away the scale and will no longer weigh myself except when at the doctors office. I don't want to define who I am ever again by a number on the scale. I've done that for way too many years.
I do want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I'll basically be doing a low fat plan because I feel it's the healthiest way to eat. I want to incorporate a lot more veggies and fruits into my food plan and a lot less red meats and oils as they don't agree with me very much. I don't consider this a diet since this will be the way I eat from now on.
