Hello I go by Liz, I live in Minnesota Twin Cities area, I love walking, I want to join others that love to walk also it gets kind of boring walking by yourself. I also finish my first 5k jogging under 35 minutes. I woke up one day in August 1st and start walking I have walked 230 miles in 2 months.
I am looking forward to meeting all of the team. emoticon

I like to walk so I came in here. I been walking trying to keep my calorie intake down. Still I gain or it takes a lot of walking everyday to lose. yesterday I did 12,000 steps. that included WII fit and walking 3 miles . Also just daily stuff. I am more active then I ever was . I get discourage though. The only thing I do know is I am healthier then I was when I joined spark in February. Before Spark I was eating all fast food Junk and sitting all the time. now I am up. So I keep on keeping on. What is...is and What Happens...Does.
Now 12,000 is not a daily thing because I do deal with pain and I like walking outside I wont do that alone so I wait on hubby but I get something in the forum of exercise. That will either be on the WII or on the Treadmill .

Hello all.

I'm not much of a fitness gal, but I sure love to walk. I live in a tiny town of 900 people, I walk everywhere I can. I walk so much people know me as "that gal that walks everywhere" even kids talk about me and all my walking.

Hi! My name is Jenn and I live in beautiful South Carolina. I am a registered nurse, a hospital educator and infection preventionist, grad student, and mom to a wonderful almost 10 year old girl. As with so many other people, I take care of everyone else before myself and that needs to stop. I know how great I feel when I take really good care of myself and I need to be more consistent.

I don't mind working out, but hate most cardio except dance types like Zumba or Hip Hop Abs. I do love walking, though, and have signed up for a half marathon in Savannah in November and and super excited about it!

It will be nice to have support from other walkers, especially if anyone else has a big goal in mind!

When life throws you curves, embrace them!

Hi, I'm new in here. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska with my husband of 22 years and two boys 17 and 20 years old. I have fibromyalgia and since I've been unable to work I've gained a lot of weight. Now I am trying as hard as I can to get it off. It is really hard when exercising hurts but walking is something I enjoy. I used to go on walks with my beagle Blue and she would go on and on and encourage me to go further. She is getting old now though (old but still a goodie) so I have to quietly slip out without her. It is very different walking alone but I try to push myself. I really wanted to lose 20 lbs this summer but so far it isn't happening. We have gotten a lot of rain (and even set a record) and we also some sort of record for pollen as well and now I have to carry and inhaler and an epi pen but I'm still going and doing the best I can.

Hello! I am new to this team today. I am a single Mom to a seven year old with a LOT of energy. I am in the insurance industry so I spend 8-10 hours of my day in a cubicle and I am not as active as I would like. I figure that walking would work best for me right now, to get me back into the "groove".

It's hard for me to get out and walk at night after work because I have my son at home, so I am using the Leslie Sansone walking DVD's.

It's nice to meet you all and I wish you every success on your journeys.

Hello! I am new to the group as of this week. I am not a very active person and think walking is a good place for me to start. My husband & I recently purchased Fitbits and I am looking to increase my steps/activity.

I am a wife (25 years next month), mom of 2 teens (a recent high school grad/college bound freshman, and a 15 year old soon to be 10th grader, and a full-time academic advisor at our local university. A busy life does not equate to an active life though. My desk and recliner see more of me than my tennis shoes do. Hoping to change that though!

I have well over 100 pounds to lose and I've started and stopped a few times over the years. I'm determined this time though to make this a lifestyle not a fad for me. I've started walking the last couple of weeks and find I actually rather enjoy it. Perhaps I can walk my way to Onederland.

I have 50 lbs to lose and am doing it by walking, going to Planet Fitness at least 4 days a week, eating salads with each meal (lunch & dinner), and cutting out the sugar. No loss yet, but building muscle!

HI, I'm new to the group. I have at least 100 lbs to lose! My husband, kids and I started walking this week. We have walked the last 4 days in a row. I am hoping to have this continue! I'm curious, how much weight have some of you lost from walking and in what time frame? Today we walked 2 miles and may go again tonight.

I'm retired and still have a lot of weight left to lose. I taught school and worked for AA&T. I have three children who are married and five grandchildren. I have been on Spark People for awhile so the weight has come off gradually. I have been searching for teams that would motivate me to exercise, lose weight, and stay motivated. I have to use a walker to walk but I do get out and walk a lot. I have a small dog also which keeps me going even when I would rather not exercise. I am diabetic so that adds in the element of having to watch carbs as well as calories. I do not take insulin but control mine thru diet.

Put your heart into anything you do.

Just joined. I have a little over 50 lbs to lose to get healthier than I am now and I know walking is the best exercise I can do at this time. I have RA of the spine so some days it's hard to get moving but I'll do the best I can.

At 715 pm I have logged in 8888 steps, 3.6 miles and 1632 burned calories. I am LOVING my new toy!!!!!!!!!! it is keeping me in control and I can't help feeling wonderful.

Hey y'all ... I have been part of Walking Sparklers for some time now but couldn't find anyone to "talk" to. I started the thread "Need Support ... Often" for daily support but most of the time I am talking to myself.

I have been walking on my treadmill since mid February and have built up to 35 minutes. I am not sure what I am doing but am striving to get to 45 minutes as a foundation of endurance. I increase my time every other week for five minutes.

Hi everyone! My name is Ali. I live in Lisbon, Maine. I'm 55 years old and morbidly obese. I've been on sparkpeople since Feb 15, 2014. I've been walking just a little to get going and I'm finally up to 1.5 miles non-stop. I really wanted to do the C25K program; starting to run just a little but my doc said "NO" so I will walk. I don't really like walking. It's something that I have to make myself do. My knee hurts just about the whole time but not enough to make me quit. Eventually I want to walk a 5K and really enjoy walking. I've been walking inside my apartment building which has a long hallway, but I'm really looking forward to getting out and walking on the lovely path we have behind where we live.

Hello, Walking Sparklers! My name is Terri. I live in Central MA. I have always loved to walk since I was in elementary school. The last 11 years I have been working in Boston. Since Boston known as a walking city, during my lunch break I take to the outdoors and walk. Bad weather does not keep me indoors except a N'oreastern. Hi. 58 y.o. male. My diabetes is becoming problematic but my knees, hips and ankles can't do much more than walking, so I started a couple of weeks ago just doing a mile.
I have a pedometer on my cellphone so I guess it is fairly accurate.
I walked 2.5 miles this morning with no discomfort. My hope is that when I build up a little more endurance I can really increase the distance.

Hi everyone, I'm anne. I'm soon to be 44 years old, happily married and I live in BC, Canada.

I'm new to spark, and first I really want to focus on being more active. My mood always seems better when I get in a walk most days - I think I'm just designed to walk and I'd like to make it a regular habit.

I'm aiming for a 1.5 mile walk (outdoors) 5 days per week to start. I'd like to keep accountable here, if that's okay. I could use the companionship and encouragement, and this team seems like a good fit.

Hello Walking Sparklers, I've had a goal to run again (sometime in my lifetime!) But since I'm 50 and overweight it's best to protect my precious knees and WALK until I lose or don't run. But it's my dream
to emoticon !

But I also LOVE to walk.. Happy to have found this ACTIVELY Walking Sparking TEAM!!!!

So I'm walking before work on days when I've been motivated to do so.. I live in the rainy climate of the Willamette Valley of Oregon and some mornings this is literally almost impossible (atleast if I were to drive to work first and then walk) as I would be soaked!

Anyhow, I've walked through our recent snow storm emoticon and I've walked to the grocery store, the post office and to the pharmacy. I've pretty much been a walking fool as of late.

I love to walk up our steep canyon-- but coming back down is the reward, hahaha! emoticon
The walk up and down can be from 1 and 1/4 miles to over 2 miles, depending on how far up you go. At first, I was so breathless, I could barely do it at all. Now I'm going a bit farther up each time.
It feels so good to get my heart healthy! I love walking, and I'm happy to meet other walkers! emoticon

Hi. My name is Patty and I live in suburban Detroit. I have two grown daughters. One is in Alabama and one is in Nova Scotia. I got walking after my third back surgery (I broke it three times and had rods put in.) So, the recovery was to walk and I took off. I've been sick the past couple weeks and need to get my energy and walking back up.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi everyone... I became a walker a few years ago after a back injury. I used to be a runner. I am finally falling in love with walking. I used to run halfs now I walk them. I love it. I feel better and I am more consistent. My next big goal is to walk a full marathon.

This team looks a good fit for me, too. I thought I walked quite a bit, but looking around here, Wow!

My commute includes 4k round trip and I have to walk on the job, too, so it's easy to make it into a workout by just doing it a bit more briskly than is comfortable.

I'm fitting in as much stair climbing as I can and avoiding lifts because there are plenty of stairs on the way to work and at work. Before, I'd take the lift to go up just one floor sometimes. emoticon

I'm getting a year off work next year. I always get heavier and sluggish during school holidays, so I've got to make this into a habit or things could get ugly. emoticon

Hi Everyone! I'm Stephanie (Steph) and have "learned" to love walking ... we adopted this sweetheart Schitsu(?)/something mix a "few" years ago and he definitely needs daily exercise other than snacking! Like me!!! His walks tend to be only about 1/2 hour bouts, though, so I dance and march around the house & yard a lot. I do love the outdoors and have noticed myself outside more than inside, weather permitting.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all and sharing ideas, new tips, etc.

Hi Cindie here. As far back as high school, I have loved to walk and it has been my first choice in exercise. I speedwalk for an hour everyday 7 days a week, well, when I'm healthy. I like to lead an active lifestyle, but sometimes health problems get in the way. I just love to lace up my Shape Up Sketchers and grab my Musicplayer and GO!!! It's my fun time and stress relief.WALKING ROCKS!!!!

I have left 30 lbs behind and have 48 more to go to get to my goal which I hope to be able to do by August 2014. At least come close, right? Well, hello there, fellow walkers. I'm a disaster waiting to happen on any kind of gym equipment so I find that walking is really the best exercise for me. I've slipped in my regular schedule the last few years, but can typically walk for up to an hour at a time. I walk 10 minutes to work and 10 minutes back four days a week, so that's a pretty good minimum.

I'm slowly getting back into walking while, at the same time, I'm dealing with overall tired-ness (I'm an insomniac, hard-wired into the brain, alas) but more of one should hopefully lead to less of another!

Looking forward to hearing from you and finding out how you're enjoying your walks.

Hello I am melodie and just joined this team. I have been eating clean for about 3.5 months now and down a little over 40lbs but need to lose around 80 more pounds. I am a nurse and I also have a small business making Goats milk soap and beauty products. I have been walking since june and currently walk 4 miles a day 5 days a week. Howdo ... I am new to SP and still learning how all the gadgets work.

I have lost a million pounds over the years ... but this is the time I will success at losing 100 pounds and not finding it again.

Day 3 and I have walked on my treadmill each day for 28 minutes using the Chris Powell interval intensity method. Today was actually easier to do.
