Hi Vanilla - Sorry you're laid up due to your ankle. I had a compound fracture of my left ankle several years ago & lost an entire summer, so I feel for you. It's frustrating to spend so much time on your rear end. Do you have stairs in your house? You could go up & down them several times on your butt, without putting weight on your bad ankle. It's a great workout for your arms since they bear most of the weight.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I can stand up on my right leg for short periods of time but I'm not allowed to bear any weight on my left leg. This is definitely not fun and I am so frustrated.

Welcome VanillaLily! I don't have very different advice than some of the others, but Linda Kay is right -- you can work up a sweat while sitting. If you have an exercise ball, you could do upper body work with that (and it works your core extra hard if you only have one leg with which to balance). You didn't mention whether or not you can move your leg (only that you can't bear weight), but bicycles and scissor moves are also great. Those are performed lying on the floor with your legs in the air. Great ab workout, too.

Good luck toward a speedy recovery!

Lisa :)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Welcome VANILLALILY. So glad that you joined us. I can tell you what my exercise teacher said. Sit in a chair and do the exercises you did standing up. I don't know how much you can use the sore leg, but you can march, walk, sitting. If you can only use 1 leg, just march with that one. Also you can do exercises with your arms, stretches, weight/large rubber band lifts. Check our SP exercises. I am sure there are chair ones. Good luck. You can really work up a sweat sitting in a chair.

Trust God, believe in yourself, and keep looking forward. You can't change the past. You are always special.

I'm a new member of the Lab Lovers. I have 4 labs. 3 boys and 1 girl. I have been home this week due to having ankle surgery and it has been difficult to exercise---I haven't been able to!!! Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to help lose weight since I can't bear weight on 1 of my legs?
