Hi MBolton 5, welcome to the Lab Lover's Team. I have two dogs. A full breed black lab and a mixed breed black lab and border collie mix. We had one lab that didn't seem interested in the water because he hadn't experienced it as a pup. We coaxed him out with treats and instictively he was able to swim. Couldn't keep him out of the water after that. Although the water is still pretty cold here (the ice just broke up two weeks ago). Both my dogs took a swim in the river this weekend. My big dog just loves to swim up and down the river. They didn't seem cold, I'm sure because they were working hard swimming. Looking forward to seeing you out here on the SP message board. Maizey

Our Toby is 7 yrs old, smart but very slow in some things. He will not speak at all on demand. He can bark and is extremely loud. He will chase a thrown ball but doesn't not want to give it back all the time Part of the time he will give the ball back to dh. Now he loves water but because he is a house pet, we do not encourage him to get in the pond when we go to the farm. We are taking him camping this weekend and will be in a state park with huge lake. I have a feeling we will find out how well he likes water soon. Also dh wants to try him in the boat but do hope that Toby doesn't decide to jump into the lake from the boat. lol
Trust God, believe in yourself, and keep looking forward. You can't change the past. You are always special.
welcome! Bailey is almost 6months. I can throw the ball and he sometimes will bring it back.I have to take it out of his mouth though, he won't drop it. He gets lazy pretty quick some days and after about 3 throws he refuses to get it. I read that at his age they become a little more independant and do things on their time. Kinda like a 11-12 yr old kid. Anyone ever heard that b 4 ?
R U READY?

Just found this team. I have a Yellow Lab mix named Buddy. He is 6 years old. The best, the sweetest, smartest dog I have ever owned. He is big for lab but just a little on the chunky side. Loves to eat, play in the creek. He is not much of swimmer he is nervous if his feet can't touch the bottom. His paws are webbed and can stay a float without a problem. He also is not much of retriever. He will chase what you throw but he doesn't like to give it up.
